Fascinating. It turns psychology on its head by looking at adult dysfunction as childhood disruptions in the "ideal" state, rather than childhood trauma. I think many people who have gone through their childhood traumas and have still not been healed, could look into this aspect and find relief. Philosophical Midwifery combines the best of psychology and philosophy. 21st century therapy at its best.

Thank you, Pierre, for showing there's still concern for the psyche and the soul in general and in approaching ancient wisdom, when nowadays there's the tendency of going to social practical stuff straightaway blindly, with the soul's eye closed.

Unfortunately many parents nowadays have no clue in how to put into practice the most basic of parenting skills, much less have the capacity in accessing and understanding what's going on beneath the surface of a child's mind and what they're thinking.

When I first saw that the show I used to watch, that I thought isn't showing anymore was on again, and it still had my favourite interviewer I couldn't believe it! great insight at the end, I can imagine that being true, this state of pure being is something that is discouraged in our civilisation, perhaps only the aristocrats allow this to their children, even that is rare probably.

Wow! This ending feels like a cliff hanger. I'd love to hear what Pierre thinks on *why* we presume to 'protect' someone from their ideal state. I mean, beyond the 'they are so beautiful and innocent. I must remind them to always be on the alert for life's threats.' I have some idea, but I would like to hear his answer.

Of course, there are some psychologists who really do study the psyche, just as there are some philosophers (in the academic sense of the word) who really do love and pursue wisdom.

It's too reductive to say that this almost always occurs in a moment of idealisation of the child and ... Mischief etc. The phenomena is much wider than that! The model fits with any internalised false belief and knowledge.

"I want you to come home with your shield or on it" critical mistake he made, but he said it on a different interview so I know that is what Pierre meant

may be the number of situations that are traumatic are rare because those people go to a psychologist or psychotherapist, psychiatrist not to a philosopher.

  • @marikalathem813

Oh my... people, life and the origins of trauma/pain are far more complex than the some of the over generalizations in this interview...

Who cares? Life sometimes is like that..you can't force things. I'm also sure Jeffrey does not judge his guests by their skin color.
In addition, you need to make a suggestion and you haven't.
