Fascinating. It turns psychology on its head by looking at adult dysfunction as childhood disruptions in the "ideal" state, rather than childhood trauma. I think many people who have gone through their childhood traumas and have still not been healed, could look into this aspect and find relief. Philosophical Midwifery combines the best of psychology and philosophy. 21st century therapy at its best.
Thank you, Pierre, for showing there's still concern for the psyche and the soul in general and in approaching ancient wisdom, when nowadays there's the tendency of going to social practical stuff straightaway blindly, with the soul's eye closed.
Unfortunately many parents nowadays have no clue in how to put into practice the most basic of parenting skills, much less have the capacity in accessing and understanding what's going on beneath the surface of a child's mind and what they're thinking.
When I first saw that the show I used to watch, that I thought isn't showing anymore was on again, and it still had my favourite interviewer I couldn't believe it! great insight at the end, I can imagine that being true, this state of pure being is something that is discouraged in our civilisation, perhaps only the aristocrats allow this to their children, even that is rare probably.
Yes, like Pierre said @ the end, it's over? Bring that man in! Saw (and viewing) some older interviews you had w him so that's cool- but more of Pierre! Thank you Dr. Mishlove
Wow! This ending feels like a cliff hanger. I'd love to hear what Pierre thinks on *why* we presume to 'protect' someone from their ideal state. I mean, beyond the 'they are so beautiful and innocent. I must remind them to always be on the alert for life's threats.' I have some idea, but I would like to hear his answer.
Of course, there are some psychologists who really do study the psyche, just as there are some philosophers (in the academic sense of the word) who really do love and pursue wisdom.
It's too reductive to say that this almost always occurs in a moment of idealisation of the child and ... Mischief etc. The phenomena is much wider than that! The model fits with any internalised false belief and knowledge.
does this technique or method have any follow up? what percentage of recovery after how many years?and what kind of problems recover by this technique, method?
"I want you to come home with your shield or on it" critical mistake he made, but he said it on a different interview so I know that is what Pierre meant
may be the number of situations that are traumatic are rare because those people go to a psychologist or psychotherapist, psychiatrist not to a philosopher.
Besides the dialogue Alcibiades referenced, he does also have his book “Philosophical Midwifery,” and it’s surface has only barely been scratched in this interview.
Who cares? Life sometimes is like that..you can't force things. I'm also sure Jeffrey does not judge his guests by their skin color. In addition, you need to make a suggestion and you haven't.
I love this man
Can't wait to research this person!
You ain’t so bad yourself.... for a hippie 🤟✌️
I am addicted to Thinking Allowed. It is one of the best shows I have encountered, on the subjects is speaks about.
Every week I find another fascinating and mind challenging person/idea to research. Thinking Allowed! I am soo glad I found this channel.
Same! I’m losing my time to work. Hahaha

everything becomes clearer when we start paying attention to our dreams
two Masters discussing the Masters, to the purpose of assissting those in pain. Very Beautiful

You think they were better at that yesterday?
@@GJ-dj4jxno. maybe in the days when parents were the child's primary teacher
Another brilliant episode of new thinking allowed . Thank you both.
Pierre, you bear a strong resemblance to Proclus
You two are great together! Two professors make class twice as nice squared! Thanks!

Amazing listen. Came across it by accident and... well, there are no such things as accidents... fascinating

Yellowjackets Research has brought me here….We have a Wildernesses baby coming this WEEK!
It is a good idea to have the microphone on Jeffrey on the right side of his jacket as he is mostly facing that way.
also; I am so happy to find more Thinking Allowed
What do you mean "protect a person from his best nature" ?
It was a mistake as a parent to do that, that’s what they meant.
Does anyone know where I can find the book Philosophical Midwifery?

Oh my... people, life and the origins of trauma/pain are far more complex than the some of the over generalizations in this interview...
In maths there are more than one ways that can lead you to a solution. Nature always chooses the simplest one.
You need to be more elaborate. You cant just through your displeasure on the man's idead and expect us to trust you.
Perhaps you can explain more?
watch it until the end if you have kids
how come a person who is not a psychologist or psychiatrist can practice psychotherapy in USA?
I need this. A book?
Have you found the book?
Besides the dialogue Alcibiades referenced, he does also have his book “Philosophical Midwifery,” and it’s surface has only barely been scratched in this interview.
Carl Jung?
Why dont you ever have any brothers on this show?

Who would you recommend?
Congratulations on imagining racism and oppression everywhere.
perhaps he's an only child? or only has sisters?
