I have been fishing jigs for 13 years now and I got to say when those 5+ pounders hit it on the swim there is nothing like it. Especially smallmouth I usually throw a 3/4 oz with a 4.5 inch pal swinging hammer and with my custom swim jigs it is killer I don't go to the store and buy jigs anymore
+David Eickstaedt power team lures swinging hammer that is, it keeps that jig on a straight path. Grey silverfish white shad colors are the best in both stained and slightly clear.
Well I have a football jig and I use it all the time but can't catch much with it, every once in a while I get one, any tips? Like where I should use it( meaning grassy, weedy areas). Depth of water maybe
You should try Bayou Bug Jigs!! Veryyyyyy cheap but quality like a 6-7 dollar jig. They have Chatterbaits, swim, grass, any kind of jig you need and the biggest selection of colours!! Even a couple custom colours they made for a person on our bass fishing groupchat! It's called Livewellhero special! Great guys working there.
+DALLMYD Yea man give it a try! The areas that you fish look perfect for a jig. The stronger the current the heavier the jig (1/2oz-3/4oz) I only say that because it seems like you fish a lot of running water. As always thanks for watching man!
props for the Bill Dance background. Love your videos man. I'm 35 and been fishing my entire life but your videos even help me to become better. I'm blown away by all your knowledge and I really appreciate sharing it with us. thanks for everything you do. Keep Fishing!
Wat u eevin talkin bout son? I've been catchin dem fish wit jigs fur 2000 years, wen jigs were jus rocks wit hooks. I think you're wrong. Hahaha great video man, I really have gotten into jigs but I'll have to try a finesse jig sometime
Thanks Jon. I finally tried a jig and trailer for the first time today. The bite was really tough and I relented and tied on a black and blue with a green pumpkin trailer. Wow. I'm a believer now. You convinced me to try it and boy does if work. You're the man! Keep fishing, never stop.
I know I’m a little late to the party (2 years), but I totally agree with you. I’ve been fishing for 32 years and the jig is my go to lure. I fish lakes, ponds, and creeks all over Tennessee and have had no trouble fishing jigs.
Been fishing for 30 years plus and just started jigging this year. I can't put it down. There's something very satisfying in the way they hit it and take off with it. I also bought my first baitcaster then proceeded to buy another and can't seem to put them down either😁 great video as always thanks and keep them coming!
Great video Jon B! Very awesome to see you put those jigs and water and show us how they should move. It would be great if you implemented that more into your other/upcoming videos so we as "anglers" can learn how our presentations should look underwater to see if we're fishing it correctly. Same could go for soft plastic baits. Keep em coming!
Jigs are starting to become my absolute favorite lure. I found a really big laydown and threw my jig in the middle of it, and a 3 lber hammered it on the fall. It's definitely a confidence building bait.
another gem john!I love throwing a 1/4 ounce swimjig, but I love all 3 of the ones you covered,if I could only have 2 setups it would be a weightless Senko setup and a 1 for jigs, can't go wrong,AWESOME VIDEO BROTHER
out of the winter desperation I finally started getting Jiggy with it... and its awesome! its boring af dragging that jig then next thing you know FISH ON! thnx for the vid and tight lines my friends!
I been fishing a canal I live near in south FL for a few months now. I catch peacock bass and largemouth out of it. I've found that if I fish topwater flukes work well around sunset and sunrise. Then I use a rapala xwrap suspending lure during mid day hours. now all I need is something to get to the bottom with and I just suck with the normal plastic worms..never have luck lol. I'm going to try the finesse jig, because I have never used them, and there is quite a bunch of shit on the bottom seeing as I'm fishing a canal. nice video man. super helpful.
Hey Jon, I saw your jig video the other day and I went fishing yesterday and decided to use a jig cus it seemed like the perfect time to use it, and I caught my personal best bass. It was 3 1/2 pounds. I know that's not jaw drooping but I just started fishing around spring time last year and I've been learning a lot trying to become a better fisherman. Your videos help out a lot.
+Seth Rushing we're in the same boat buddy, started fishing in Feb 2014, last year around summer I really started doing my homework and now i can't wait for spring to come around, btw 3.5 is better than my pb at 2.74lbs
I've always enjoyed fishing a jig my dad doesn't believe in it because I usually don't catch as many fish as him but I catch the bigger fish. Great vid John!
Jon I like to keep it simple with jigs , movement trailers in hot water (rage craw) and for clear water I use something with no movement . Try in winter to use a little scent , it helps a lot when they are short striking it
I never used a jig till watching your videos since you're such a believer in them and i agree, they are extremely versatile and probably one of the best baits to have
Been bass fishing for about 2-3 years never have I fished a jig before. But I just put in an order for some jigs. I knew they worked all along but always got confused on different types and trailers. But it's time. Can't wait for that order to come in.
I can vouch, I love fishing my jigs! Just recently started using them, just hopping them along the bottom or up and over laydowns and it works great!!! Takes some getting used to the bite though, just an fyi.
You are dead on. Jigs are one presentation that will work year-round on the Susquehanna River out here--even when the water temps are near freezing. Now, my butt isn't out there in my kayak, but several hardcore kayak anglers I know are--and jigs are probably their top presentation, followed by jerkbaits. Both are worked so slowly you can watch POTUS give the State of the Union between rod movements. Jjigs flat out catch fish..and they catch big fish. A variant of your finesse jig that works well out here is the venerable Hair JIg. Usually a ball type jig, with hair tied to it, and trimmed back so that it sticks just beyond the hook. The key is slowing down your presentation, and if you think you're moving too slowly, slow down more. tight lines man!
good video jon b. I normally use a 3/4oz medlock jig for flipping heavy cover. it's got a double weed guard and practically a shark hook on it. not too bulky but flat out catches fish
I live in Northern Nevada and we don't have a lot of big bass so a smaller size compact flipping jig is my favorite it's also my favorite bait out of all my baits because it flat out caches fish
i live in florida and the lake i fish at has pretty clear water and the bluegill are HUGE! it also has lots and lots of reeds and matted grass i like a 1/2 oz green pumkin jig with a pit boss it works wonders
dont listen people man that wanna down u on your videos they should be greatful u trying teach em. If they didnt wanna know your preferences then shouldn't watch video. Everyone has different baits that they can use better than others it all depends on confidence in baits! mine would be flukes i can catch bass almost on any giving day with em but yet people say is all you fish with an make fun me about it I say yea when conditions get rough I use them an they say what hell Im talking about. So all u got say to em is "well you obviously watching this video because u dont have much confidence in this bait" lol Keep doing what ya doing man ill be watching 🎣
I love this video. Great job! I use all 3 of those types of jigs....and...I also use 1 more....a swim jig. Many times a flipping jig can be used as a swim jig. But I also have bullet shaped swim jigs and some "winged" swim jigs. I find them to be an important part of my jig arsenal.
+EmilysAdventures Thanks! Spring is THE season to work on your jig game. The big ones start to hammer jigs once the weather starts to heat up nation wide.
started throwing jigs around this year and I must say most fun bait to fish with in my opinion. I prefer swim jigs the most but all jigs are fun to fish with
haha! I was honestly waiting for a picture of Flair to randomly pop up on your computer. It felt like I was waiting, like, 800 years. And it just didnt happen! lol Good video Jon!
This was a great video man. I've haven't been on your channel in awhile. Trying to catch up. Lol I like the smoking frogs 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. Keep up the great vids man.
Thanks to Jon I actually have some knowledge on how to fish. If I didn't find him on RUclips then I would still be using a bobber, hook, and worm. Also shoutout to AP Bassin for also teaching me.
You and 1chopstick1reel got me into jigs, i fished them for a couple weeks and never produced fish like i would with other baits. Dont know what im doin wrong. Tried all techniques and sizes. My ponds tend to have unjiggable bottoms.
Can you do a video on jig fishing techniques with all the different types of jigs. Where to throw it how to throw it what kind of retrieval. I have hard water out in NY so I'm pretty sure you do to but it would be nice even to see a video on retrievals on dry land so you can see what the jig is actually doing when your hopping and dragging. Thanks and keep up the good work
hey jon ever throw a swim jig? do you have any videos using one? if so post a link please and thanks I wanna get into them a little more this season. you're vids are awesome keep it up.
Ok, I want to fish in a pond that I know bass are in. The deepest part is probably 7 feet or so.. Visibility is about 1-2 feet. And I noticed very small shiners jumping to get away from the bass.. And don't know if I should try a little white chatterbait micro or if a jog might throw them a little off.. Keep up the good vids man
great video!!! i agree 100%, learns to use the righr jig the right way can catch you fish after fish all year round.. love your videos where are you located???, just wondering
Product links are NOW in the description if you guys are curious. Also, thanks for watching you guys are all OG's

+DALLMYD bro fish them around rocks and i promise u, u will get one
+DALLMYD Yea man give it a try! The areas that you fish look perfect for a jig. The stronger the current the heavier the jig (1/2oz-3/4oz) I only say that because it seems like you fish a lot of running water. As always thanks for watching man!
I just purchased Booyah monster Jigs. I never caught a fish on a jig Wish me luck.
props for the Bill Dance background. Love your videos man. I'm 35 and been fishing my entire life but your videos even help me to become better. I'm blown away by all your knowledge and I really appreciate sharing it with us. thanks for everything you do. Keep Fishing!

YESS you put it back in the video!!! idk if you saw my other comment but I'm so happy you put it back in! Keep fishing, never stop 👊🏼
This video was defiantly helpful, he does a lot better explaining when, and where to use lures then any other angler on youtube
Great video Jon B! Very awesome to see you put those jigs and water and show us how they should move. Thanks Jon B. Without this video I don't think I would have ever caught a bass again.
Jigs are starting to become my absolute favorite lure. I found a really big laydown and threw my jig in the middle of it, and a 3 lber hammered it on the fall. It's definitely a confidence building bait.
Well done dude. One of the best videos I've seen on the subject - opinionated, succinct and the example aquarium shots were money. kudos.
another gem john!I love throwing a 1/4 ounce swimjig, but I love all 3 of the ones you covered,if I could only have 2 setups it would be a weightless Senko setup and a 1 for jigs, can't go wrong,AWESOME VIDEO BROTHER

+Westernoutdoorsman15 Bigger the better! Thanks for watching man.
Editing is becoming the best in the fishing videos on RUclips
+Matthew Manning Thank you Matthew, I work on my editing everyday!
Jon I like to keep it simple with jigs , movement trailers in hot water (rage craw) and for clear water I use something with no movement . Try in winter to use a little scent , it helps a lot when they are short striking it
I love jig fishing! very satisfying getting a slammed bite and catching that 4 pounder
I never used a jig till watching your videos since you're such a believer in them and i agree, they are extremely versatile and probably one of the best baits to have
Awesome video! Best fishing videos on RUclips by far! Awesome editing and quality content!
Been bass fishing for about 2-3 years never have I fished a jig before. But I just put in an order for some jigs. I knew they worked all along but always got confused on different types and trailers. But it's time. Can't wait for that order to come in.
Come up to northern iowa and fish some of the lakes around here. You can try fishing the Iowa Great Lakes.
I can vouch, I love fishing my jigs! Just recently started using them, just hopping them along the bottom or up and over laydowns and it works great!!! Takes some getting used to the bite though, just an fyi.

Just bought the black and blue jig. I really only fish top water or shakey heads for bass. Excited to try something new. Thanks man.
Great video Jon, I would love to hear a lot more about all the different types of jigs and how to work them.
+Jim D. I might even make another video going deeper only because I feel like I left some important points out. Thanks for watching Jim!
Best edit yet I laughed all the way through!!! Laughing and learning! Thanks Jon!!
Can you make a video about pairing trailers and what trailers to use for what jig techniques
I grew up fishing jigs and it is by far my favorite technique
Awesine video man. Thanks for the info I am in that "older less experienced" crowd and think this was very helpful. Shots in the tank were great too
Great video! Throwing jigs is my favorite! There is almost no wrong way to fish it!
Congrats on 60k buddy! Heres to the next 60k!
I live in Northern Nevada and we don't have a lot of big bass so a smaller size compact flipping jig is my favorite it's also my favorite bait out of all my baits because it flat out caches fish
Love jig fishing, also my favorite way to bass fish!
i live in florida and the lake i fish at has pretty clear water and the bluegill are HUGE! it also has lots and lots of reeds and matted grass i like a 1/2 oz green pumkin jig with a pit boss it works wonders

Awesome Vid JB!!! Keep up the great work!
Great video you have great energy. Thank you keep teaching brother.
First learned about fishing a jig from you. I like it but still learning. I think I always tend to get impatient and fish it too quickly.
I have been wanting a video about this for sooooo long!
I love your random word pop ups. Nice work
Jon I'm a lot like you were before you started using jigs. I will start using jigs you suggested and I'll let you know how I do.
