The map at 3:01 purports to show when Texas got to its current county configuration. But the lines are _really_ inaccurate in some cases. For example, Maverick County's eastern border is (today, anyway) a straight vertical line all the way down, but here you show a bit jutting out at the bottom. And Jeff Davis County, famously the only pentagonal county in the U.S., here has (at least) six sides. I'm going to have to downvote this video.

    *Rogers County, Texas* (266)
Seat (and largest community): Port Arthur
Due to economic and cultural differences between the northern and southern halves of Jefferson County, Port Arthur led the charge of the southern half to separate and form Rogers County named in honor of Texas Ranger John Harris Rogers.

What's not being explained is _why_ we have counties in the first place. How do you confuse _municipality_ with _county?_ A county is ruled by a "Count" or "Countess" and can be found in an aristocratic government. Therefore one would expect to find counties in countries such as England and France who had shires, earls, dukes, counts, nobles, and gentry.
A _municipality_ is from the Latin _municipalis_ literally "pertaining to a citizen of a free town, of a free town". In practice it would be a community, municipality, free town, or city whose citizens have the privileges of a Roman citizen but are governed by their own laws.
So the question would be, why do we have counties when The Constitution prohibits gentry, nobility and the crown from possessing power of dominion in the United States of America?

Luis Fernando Núñez Manautou Wtf are you talking about? I’m not even from Texas and I still think that statement is bs. Both American Texans and Hispanic Texans seceded from Mexico because they were sick of the weakness and corruption of the Mexican government at the time. Wait did I say at just that time? I meant even to this day. Just saying.

    • @luisfer9361

Ser Devil Check your facts. Only condition mexico gave to American settlers: no salves. Slavery was abolished in Mexico since its inception so it was unconstitutional. What did Sam Houston and friends did? They brought slaves. What did Mexico do? They told them not to bring slaves and to free the ones already in Texas or the Mexican government would intervene. What do American settlers do? Proclaim independence. There you go. Hope you can really check into that instead of talking blind about things you know, apparently, absolutely nothing about
