Happy Wednesday, all! Today I wanted to make a video all about mail art and answer some often asked questions. :)

Oh my goodness! I love to relax and watch your videos Kristina, but this one got my heart racing. Watching you write g-a-i-l, I was thinking "Oh, someone with the same name as me (it's not that common) ... then D-a-v-i-d ... Hi all! Don’t quote me on the postage prices-they can change often! The best thing you can do is check the USPS website for correct postage prices. Turns out I need to add an extra 15 cents for my envelopes to Canada and Australia. :)
It is now $1.20 to send Internationally as price went up. Forever stamps are now $0.55.. there is no price on either so you can still use. It is only when you go to buy it again that you will pay more.
OH MAN, I'm drooling over those envelopes, what lucky girls to find those in their mailboxes!
Kristina, a 1 oz letter to Canada is $1.15. I’m sure Australia is the same. Just go to usps.com to find the correct pricing. Also, the Postal Service only wants the country on the bottom line of the address, not the codes because as the machines are reading and sorting, they will mistake those codes as unidentifiable US zip codes and mis-sort your mail, thus delaying delivery instead of sending it directly to the country. Those codes are more so for their sorting, like our zip codes are a finer sort to us. Nice video! I’ll be glad when I can send such beautiful mail to friends and family! (I work at the PO).

I really enjoy all your videos. I've sent decorated mail for many years, including plastic (soda) bottles (with a letter, confetti, etc inside). I just take ones that are 'unique' to the post office to determine the correct postage, and ask for hand-cancelling when needed due to shape or texture/thickness issues. However, since my handwriting isn't pretty like yours, I tend to use stickers or the computer for addressing. Your envelopes are absolutely exquisite.

Thanks for the information on postage. I wasn't aware that square cards could not go through machines but I usually put extra postage on them anyway because of their weight.

My sister sent invitations via USPS and they didn’t get to any of their destinations. She used silver pen on black envelopes. It turns out the machines in the automated process could not “see” the metallic pen. As you’ve noted, people may have different experiences. To be on the safe side, I would affix a light label and write on it with a darker color. Thanks again for sharing your techniques and product suggestions. Everything you create is so beautiful!
I also enjoy designing Mail Art to send out to friends. I am Canadian, living in Canada of course....haha.Mailing some Mail Art to the U.S.A. can be a little more pricey, but totally worth it. haha Some of my envelopes that are thinner, I run a measured piece that is slightly smaller of 80lb. card stock weight for inside. After using "Stick It" to secure it to the inside front panel, I begin my Artwork. I bought a similar template tool from "Ink Me This" that is copper plated. It is large enough for a 5x7 card front as well. I absolutely love it, and promote it on my Channel. I found this great Company when viewing one of your tutorials.Thank you so much for that. As a side note, my mom told me about a hand cream called, " Burts Bees" that is so similar to the Tim Holtz Glaze I use also. I was happily surprised to find it works identical to the Glaze. I purchased it at our Walmart, in the Pharmacy Department. You get double the amount, for half the price. Now, that is an added bonus. I like, and use both products. I also don't mind spending the little extra postage when it is the only Card I am sending out. haha Postage here has gone up like a hot air balloon the last year or so, thus keeping my Mail Art at a reasonable weight. Just beautiful! I really enjoy watching you put together your cards along with your stunning handwriting! I have a collection of calligraphy pens and tips that I haven't used yet. I really like the L shape tip that you use... it appears to be just flowing so easily!
Great info. FYI they also have forever global stamps that can be used to send a letter to most countries now. I have used for Canada and UK

Watching you motivates me to take a class for letter writing...so beautiful. Just a little info. the mail runs through a type of conveyor which reads the zip codes and helps sort. So when your letter won't bend when it passes that reader it will kick it out and return it to sender for extra postage. A good way to know if your mail will pass is just to bend it and if it bends easily and is within the thickness guide lines you should be fine with regular postage. That is just a quick summary of course. It also helps to have a very friendly relationship with your postal clerk ...lol I mail all kinds of weird shapes like balls and use the clear cello envelopes as my regular envelopes for mailing. As long as the address can be read you can send about anything through. My clerk and mail carrier enjoy the artwork I send. You can also ask for a guide that will allow you to measure thickness & sizes. You have to ask for it, and i'm sorry I can't remember what it's called. Once you have a general idea you won't even have to go to the post office. Again Thank You for all your shares. I get envious :)
I have also taken envelopes to the PO and hand-canceled them. I bought the stamps there, and placed them before hand-canceling them, so I knew the postage was correct.
The last time I did this, it was to mail the invitations I handmade for my daughter’s bridal shower. The PO assistant was a bit disappointed, as I had already sealed the envelopes and she couldn’t see inside.
(I go to a specific PO, where the assistant is super-nice.)
So beautiful! I have a collection of pens and nibs and calligraphy ink here. I am always doing some sort of snail mail and I love decorating my envelopes in a unique way as well as my writing paper inside. I either coffee stain it or just make it unique from me! My recipients just love receiving a card or letter even if it's late on arrival. I make my own cards with watercolor and/or mixed media ...you name it Thank you for some beautiful inspiring lettering ideas.🍂🍃💕☕

Love this vid!!! So much great information ^__^ I actually remember when the USPS started using machines to sort mail; my dad retired from the USPS so I learned a lot. The first year for the machine sorts was tough at the USPS because the machines would "eat" the letters...so sad; but no problems with that now (or very, very, small chance now). Your advise of the address being legible is so true! I can remember my dad complaining about how he couldn't deliver mail because he could not read the address. The USPS website has lots of great info for international mailing, too. Thanks for putting this together and sharing some of the tools! ^__^

These envelopes are sooooo beautiful! Anyone receiving one would not get rid of the envelope and just keep the card because they are both gorgeous. Where can I find calligraphy classes? I love the way you write - it looks so effortless. :) I'm going to try to get the frame for lettering and start decorating my envelopes like you do (you make it look so easy...).

Your postage rates are so reasonable. A regular letter costs $1 in Canada at least the last time I checked. I avoid mail because of the cost.

Thank you. I did know that square envelopes are an additional 21 cents because they don’t fit through the machine....according to the postal worker Netflix saved millions of dollars by changing the square design to a rectangle. I appreciate your talent and information.

That laser is a game changer for sure!
If I handwrite the address, I use a Tim Holtz clear ruler to lightly pencil the lines, then erase the lines with an Artgum eraser after.

Hi Kristina- do you have a video or instructions on protecting a shaker card or one with embellishments traveling in the mail, such as Queen and Co shaped shaker cards that have dimension.. Thanks so much!
No, unfortunately, I don't. I would suggested a padded envelope.
Once dry. If you slightly damp the back and put something heavy on it till it is dry . It will it be flat again. Hope this helps.

My favorite videos that you make are about envelopes. I love how you make envelopes interesting and colorful. My question is about the envelope on which you glued a piece of paper. I have never done that because I thought it might rip off and then the postman would not know where to deliver it or even who to return the letter to. Have you had any problems with this happening?
