Rated R is probably her most important album, to me personally it's certainly her best. Without Rated R, and her willing to break out and mess with other genres, we would have never gotten Talk that Talk Unapologetic or Anti. When it comes to single songs, Rated R isn't the hardest hitter, when it comes to artistic evolution and expression, this album is a GOD.

I remember when Russian Roulette was released, on Ryan Seacrest's blog. I pressed play, and I had such a visceral reaction hearing her voice. I had to make sure I clicked on the right audio, because she sounded so different to what I was used to. It was a bit deeper, the vocal placement was different, the range was wider, the power was real. Rihanna needed to make this album. I couldn't begin to fathom the turmoil she had going inside, but this album definitely gave a glimpse. It was so dark, and such a nonlinear processing of emotions, that she needed to get out. She had to acknowledge the pain, but reclaim her power and image. Rated R quite literally ran so Loud could frolic in the pink grasslands.
I didn’t quite get it the first time I heard this album, but after a few listenings it grew on me so much and every time I listen to it I get goosebumps!!! this album is POWERFUL 💥💥

I agree. Maybe replacing Rude Boy with Skin and vice versa. Both albums are fire but Loud is my all-time favourite album by Rihanna. Unapologetic comes pretty close though.
this album is over a decade old, obviously she knows the lyrics to most of the songs cause she is RIHANNA. but it doesn't mean she has to like it enough to replay it. i don't think most of the songs on this album are her taste and that's completely fine.
