When you first start playing Escape From Tarkov, a few of the most common obstacles you tend to try and overcome are Gear Fear, and Solo Anxiety. These are very common among the Tarkov community, but not many actually get over this hurdle in their time playing. In this video, we will go over why you have these thoughts and fears, as well as help you understand how to overcome these challenges to make your EFT experience overall better

I've found the more that I play my scav the worse my gear fear becomes. When I go through periods where I don't touch my scav and just play back to back PMC raids, I quickly begin to lose that fear for whatever reason and I go in with more and more "nice" kits. The moment I play 2-3 scav runs then the fear quickly comes back when I go to load in with my PMC. Same for the longer I spend in my stash between raids. I've no idea why.
I played for the last 2 weeks without touching my scav and legit did not care what I lost. Then I played 3 scav runs last night and I immediately started looking for things to do in my stash and hideout instead of loading in on my PMC.
I truly don't have gear fear anymore but even after a couple of thousands of hours I still get solo anxiety

My gear fear rule of thumb is this; If you're scared to lose the gear you're wearing, you have no business running it. Run the bracket of gear you can afford until that petrified feeling goes away. Until then do money runs and get your rubles up.

I can have the same amount of success with uley and mp9 than an ergo built m4 and full class 5 and be spending 1/4 of the roubles. I honestly just like having money and gear. I'll kill some juicers and then just rebuy and run the kit that killed them instead of using their gear lmao.

Gear fear ends once you complete a single wipe with stacked stash and 50+mil.
You realize cash and gear are meaningless and you gain knowledge on how to obtain it quickly.

It's so weird, I've always been an extremely realistic person. A fighter, afraid of no one, even though he was a lot bigger than me. I had my own company with employees. I had a heart attack last year, I have no fears about that either. As a child I would walk through the cemetery late at night because it was short for football. Now with Tarkov I played level 16 until 2 months ago, and then due to circumstances I couldn't play for 2 weeks anymore, with the result that I no longer dare to play in RAID as a PMC. That's kind of weird, when I want to go into RAID as PMC I click the go back button every time.
I hate it when been killed by someone who I never saw. I am NOT afraid for PVP, only for those who hiding and they get me doinked. It's a jump scare with a lot of frustration, because I didn't saw that mf. When I get into a PMC fight and he wins, no problem, and a very little victory when I manage to f him up too, like 2 or more hits. It happen A lot I get doinked by people witch ending names like .TTV. I don't know why that is. Sounds legit to some of you guys?

I feel like solo anxiety comes from the fear of running into a squad and being outnumbered. I’d be comfortable solo if I knew everyone else was too

6th wipe for me.. it was probably my 3rd wipe until i didnt have gear fear anymore, once you loose gear fear (and know how to easily make rubles) the game really opens up and is way more fun..... i also do not enjoy playing in a duo or trio with someone that has gear fear and is simply afraid to fight it out after i die, kinda kills the mood.
When I was new I made Factory kits and would run them until I ran out, then I'd get them back on insurance most of the time and run them again. PPsh, cheap helmet with visor, cheap L4 armor, empty out some drum mags and have fun.

Weirdly enough completing setup made me get over gear fear. I started just ratting bc I never used shotguns. And then I just started chasing shots. Had way more fun, and I realized I could do the same with “real” kits.

Been playing around a month. Still get the heart pounding and the shakes in raid, game is just so immersive I still get the horror game feels from it but the gear fear has flipped to excitement for insurance returns. Its like opening Christmas gifts haha

Factory is key for me bc at least for me most solo anxiety was anticipation anxiety. There is no time to anticipate in Factory as ur in a fight almost immediately most the time

Solid vid man. What I’ve learned is you are 100% going to lose a gun or armor eventually. I’m solo on tark every day and I like it that way for many reasons. Do I wanna lose my beautiful mdr and bastion slap? No, but it’s GOING to happen eventually just get the tasks done you’ll get another set. Special ammo is the only thing I really hate losing now
For the longest time playing EFT would stress me out like no other game. Hands sweaty, heart beating, the works. Recently just upgraded my CPU to a 5700X3D (Had a OC 3600 before) and OMG playing this game with stable framerates more the halved my stress. Being able to switch scope zooms, fire full auto without lag, load into maps in a reasonable time. It's not perfect nor has it gone away completely but I think that's normal given what this game is.
Not having to stress about potentially loosing a fight just because my hardware couldn't handle it is a massive weight off my chest.
Im fine losing my stuff but man oh man the Adrenaline gets the best of me sometimes.
A few intense encounters I couldnt stop shaking and had to take a break after some fights mid raid.
Also, using a compressor really helps with the jump scares and it will save your hearing 👍

I don’t have gear fear, I have time fear.
I've learned to get over my gear gear but my issue now is the complete lack of confidence in my PvP. I always seem to make the wrong choice, and it directly leads to anxiety and unforced errors, which compounds on top of itself... like a viscous cycle of anxiety and mistakes, which in turn causes me to avoid engagements... which means I'm not getting better at it lol
What is stopping me is that every single time I play (I'm a solo player) , I manage to stay out of troubles, I hear the enemy, I stop and find an angle, I shoot first, few rounds, nothing happen and the PMC just turn and destroy me....this is really depressing and makes me stop playing every day
That's the heart of tarkov. All you can do is be prepared and trust your decision. When it fails, try another strategy. But don't knock yourself when you die. Just suck it up and try again. If you truly love tarkov it will turn around for you I promise. This game rewards people who have the patience and does their research

Tbh what I found help me when I was new was to learn 2 maps I.e customs and woods and I would run around the map finding loot and letting all players get ahead. Then hitting up some hot spots like usec camp and scan to see if I catch anyone out and usally I do and it ends up being a free kill. But the best thing I can say to a newer player is dont stress money in eft. Money will naturally come especially if you do scav runs

I've gotten increased gear fear as my computer has had a harder time running the game. I have more stutters and harder time spotting my opponent than when I started playing the game and it's made my decision making process really scuffed.
I have a rule of staying about 5 million and if i drop below it i use budget builds till im back above so i dont care about losing gear if im above 5m

At this point my main feeling of anxiety is Labs, it's a really tough map and the only reason I'm going there is for intel, solar, and bitcoin 3. I did my first solo labs raid a couple of days ago, and while I did watch videos on Labs, having the map up on my second monitor, knowing the spawns for the gpsa and the mcc, it's still tough to navigate until you do enough raids to just know the map. I did get out, but I was being a rat and avoided fights. I also didn't get out with much because I'm poor at navigating the map for now.

found myself collecting just a completely unnecessary amount of gear and money, decided to just start using some kits made of gear i didnt care too much about without insuring it and decided to buy a couple keycards, had a bunch of fun just saying "fuck it" and i honestly only lost like 2 kits

One time I was stuck in the center of lexos, my buddy had died, and I was inches from death surrounded by player scavs and PMCS all closing in on my position. Quite frankly I was petrified. Metal footsepts were behind me, in front of me, and all around me and I had no clue where I was being shot from. As someone who heavily relies on sound, all I wanted to do was sit in the middle of that container and just hope they forgot about me.
But then I realised.... what good was it if i just sat there? I knew if i stayed put i would've died, and If I looked back on this moment I would've been pissed knowing I didn't do all I could have done. So I packed my mags, popped a stim, and booked it through the mechanical shop and jumped into sparja without looking back. I didn't care if I died then. In that moment I was content with death. After finally making it to safety, I bandaged up and took a sniper position at the back of Concordia and picked off the enemy one by one.
It was this exact scenario that taught me a valuable lesson which ultimately helped me get over my fear. just remember all the moments where not doing anything because you were scared got you killed. At least when you die while trying, your gear wasn't lost for nothing.

i love this game, just getting it a month ago. mainly running solos, and i tend to do well. but recently ive been dying to many many cheaters and its making me not want to play anymore.

Ive played several wipes, ive +150m, 300m stash value etc etc, but my gear fear comes from my GPU, its an 1080ti so its struggling with the game at this point, so i feel like i cant rely on my PC performance on some situations, using a scope its a death sentence in some maps for example

Man compare to ther fps games I play. This game is working like shit. Im new to this. I love it. But it runs like shit… I have high end pc. I watch all the videos … tried everything is soo bad optimized I cant focus. Will it help to go from 32 to 64 gb ? Ram

First wipe, started around the end of January with my cousin. We both had both of these but he was with school I was playing solo and sort of got rid of it. But maybe above a month ago we don’t have gear fear after seeing how easy it is to get money from scav runs. Yesterday was on a solo scav found a Tetris and bitcoin felt like I had a target above my head the whole time. Since he didn’t play as much at first as me, when I die he usually freezes and starts fumbling 😂 I do sometimes but after about 2 min I get back into it. Gear fear is not there cause can kill a pmc as a scav and take their whole kit. Others we pmc runs for hours and die non stop and spend millions
I don’t really have gear fear, but I do get nervous moving around the map because I just don’t know how to move about the map confidently. I don’t mind dying, but I don’t want to die for free you know cause rekitting up and getting back into raid takes too damn long. If the spawn system wasn’t so janky as well, dying wouldn’t real that bad.

Its my first wipe but recently I've managed a 100 mill bank, so much gear I couldnt lose it all if I wanted, 2 bitties every day basically generated. So all of that to say I have no reason to have gear fear anymore. I rock my best kit possible every raid and if I die oh well. Either way I'm gonna have fking fun. I fear not having a fun match now more so then gear. And yes I'm solo 90% of the time.

My thing isn’t gear fear or solo anxiety, it’s time wasted anxiety. I only have so much time to play a night with work and a family, so when I hop on, I don’t want to put 40min into a raid only to die on my way to extract cause I look back and see it as a complete waste of time. So I play slow and creep to maximize survival chance but I hate it. So I’m stuck in this loop of not wanting to have my time wasted but also wanting to play more aggressive and such
Sounds like you just need to play spt single player tarkov. It's where all the no time for game people go. They have family and can't handle the time sink. I highly recommend it

Its not gear fear for me, i did have it at one point. Said screw it, im bad at the game and will lose it eventually anyway. Anxiety is there more bc i know i suck and dont need to engage or chase shots

There have been tons of vids about gear fear, but with how easy it is to make money scaving streers, i dont understand it.
For me the issue is solo anxiety. I will just play ultra-conseratively, and am still terrified.
I do think listening to music could help, but that puts you at a disadvantage.
I feel like this is a horror game when playing solo.
Playing my first wipe as a solo 3 years ago has made me understand thar tarkov is a squad cause if your by yourself, everyone else in your game isn't so why be at a disadvantage compared to the other PMCs
I wouldn’t have gear fear if I didn’t take 8 hours of gameplay to undo one death. Had no gear fear when I could buy everything on the flea/traders easily. Once they started clamping down on that, it crept in.
If I died before the flea bans I’d spend maybe an hour, if that getting some rubles for a new kit, then hop back into it. I’m not a bad player, usually 60%+SR, max traders each wipe. But the amount of time it takes now to get to a comparable spot is ridiculous

I'm new to tarkov and boy, it is very rough. I have no idea where stuff that is worth anything spawns. I love the game, but it's got a very steep learning curve
Top tip from a few months in, pick an AR or an SMG, stock up on mags and ammo for them, I just decided on the M4. Now, make sure you run your scavs, go streets ant hit the compound next to Lexos, and the trucks on the road outside it, you'll get 250-500k rubles a run, this will fund your PMC. Also stack your mags!

The reason i hate solo is due to bush wookies or timmies sitting in a random ass bush for 30 minutes and killing me
That stuff will happen. Just gear back up and get back in. Or do a scav run to clear your mind. Or turn the game off for a minute if you feel yourself tilting. People get ambushed IRL all the time and there isn't a lot they can do about it.
It's tarkov. Whether it's someone camping a bush or sniping from across the map you're going to get got by someone you didn't see sometimes. Just gear back up, eat a lil snack, and load back in. 🤷♀️
Honestly love me some solo gear fear doesn't hit me unless I'm truly fucked but I also stake hunts vs chad runs unless im feeling it im just scaving and hunting PMCs if im winning a lot I'm breaking out the good stuff.

I have over 900 hours and I still get solo anxiety, more or less depending on the day, for no particular reason. This game is just scary AF, psychological. I don't really care about my gear I just don't want to get merced.
I don't recommend getting rid of gear fear, maybe is because I am at a point in my gaming journey where I am much more experience than a majority of player base. (been playing fps for 18 years), You get rid of gear fear artificially and then what, you make more money? then what? Please Cherish the adrenaline and anxiety because if you aren't playing to get emotions out of the game then what's the point is all mundane. I had to relearn this wipe on how to get gear fear and is been a struggle. the only "bad" part about gear fear is that for some people it hinders them from taking risk but like the richest people in tarkov are rats there's plenty of success u can find in ratting,
I think your misunderstanding, people with gear fear literally will never use their gear or if they do go into a raid and hide in a corner, that is debilitating they're not playing.
@@TickleMePinkGaming Idk I have a different Philosophy when I play games like tarkov and rust. I think is 100 percent fair game to sit in corner or just use cheap kits. That's the beauty of tarkov there's soo much freedom to this game. and trust me I have heard the argument is just a game, but tarkov has a unique experience to make gear and loot have immersive impact and take that away and the game becomes a generic just like any other shooter. 6-8 years ago I would have been right with you telling people to get rid of gear wipes around in 3 months anways the gear u save won't matter and is not entirely false this is true. However I think as an adult gaming takes more time and time and it is the experience we create for ourselves that makes it fun. and sometimes that looks like sitting in a corner scared af about the gear we lose and finally when the chad lower his guard u shoot his legs out and he dies to flesh and it feels good af.
Playing blind drunk is also good way to not care if you die in game or otherwise

With how poor the games state is in anyway it's best to just run kirasa with level 3 plates and a 6B47. Bc I've tanked m80 like a champ with the kirasa to be 2 tapped with a korund on. Just rush in with guns that have good volume of fire and no recoil and bank on your aim.

Honestly two things totally eliminated gear fear for me:
1) it'll be wiped eventually. Use it or lose it.
2) get used to running lower tier gear. My go to this wipe has mostly been fairly mid armour combined with MP5/MP5SD. Cheap, effective enough if you're smart about it (and better once you get AP ammo), and you often get the stuff back on insurance. Then you can just run your good stuff as you get it/can afford better, knowing full well that when you lose it you just fall back into your comfort zone of mid gear.
The farther into wipe you get and the better you get at the game the easier it is to run higher tier stuff and make plenty of money to make up for your losses. And if you're comfy with lower tier gear then you're still set when it all goes horribly wrong and when the next wipe starts

I think the true problem is how much time it takes to do anything in games these days, especially when you got stuff like flea markets, crafting and building (I honestly think the 3 of those should be banned from multiplayer games because they force a specific kind of gameloop that always ends up being time consuming just for the sake of it). You waste way too much time doing something that can be lost immediately and that is infinitely more annoying then the gear itself. If everyone played the game just for combat and quests weren't a thing then gear fear wouldn't be a thing too for most players.

I've been playing semi-casually since 2020 and I still can't get rid of anxiety 😅 I find myself staring at the main menu until I alt+f4
I don't care for gear since I can just earn it back with a 10 min interchange scav but holy shit solo anxiety is *real*.
I always feel like there's crosshairs on my face, every window has a shooter, every corner is covered and every bush has a level 50 crouched in it 😂 most of the time I'm freaked out by noises or tarkov induced schizophrenia kicks in and I spend 10 minutes crouched shitting my pants over a imaginary footstep
The shittiest part is that I'm wrong 70% of the time, and sitting in a corner waiting out imaginary sounds leads to a squad bumping into me and sending me back to the lobby
Not to mention it's absolutely terrifying being a level 20 this late into the wipe when everyone's level 35+ actively hunting me down for my dogtags with a full squad 😢
