It's really interesting how Homura's gem ties to controlling evil thoughts, as well as fighting temptations, considering that her biggest fear and struggle during the series was trying to not fall prey to despair and sorrow, since she knew the consequences that would have. But even more interesting (SPOILERS FOR 3rd MOVIE) is when she actually surrenders herself to the curse and becomes the embodiment of evil, and her gem also changes accordingly. What are your thoughts on the matter, JTV? Coincidence or not?

It doesn't really matter if mamis head gets severed from her body I think... Because all magical girls can heal their bodies with magic no matter the level of damage, including decapitation. (Sayaka can heal the quickest and even during battle) Mami’s soul gem is located on her head (the flower accessory in her hair) so it got destroyed during the same moment she was decapitated and that's why she couldn't heal from it.

I actually think its much more probable that its a glass or quartz like crystal because you can see how soul gems crack theyre more similar to glass when about to break or hatch into grief seeds, the color is quite easy to explain because souls do have color and could simply alter the gem to host it, becuse it is canon if a soul dosent have a host of somekind like a body or a gem it disappears

Unfortunately "Magical Boys" don't seem to be a thing, but If it could be gold sheen obsidian I'd go with that. If has to be clear crystalline gemstone then perhaps aquamarine?
There was a reason boys were never chosen. Girls at that age were far more emotional and more likely to fall into despair sooner. If the Incubators made a deal with boys, it might take years (if ever) to get them to turn to witches and be harvested.
