It is amazing the quality put in this thing at this price. This would sell like crazy at a retirement village compared to the overpriced golf carts they use.

Lols. It is a golf cart and not road legal in America. Also, they're Chinese junk. They rust fast, fall apart quick, and might catch on fire.

Not gonna lie I first saw this in Jalopnik´s latest videos and I absolutely would love to have this car. In my opinion cars like this will dominate the future market once electric vehicles get overly expensive.

This is the perfect car for a grocery getter in town. The future of the automobile.
Actually electric cars have existed for a very, very... very long time. They were also better than this thing.
My friend's relative bought one of these very recently for his elderly mother. It is extremely cheap. The batteries and drive are fine, steering very decent, pretty sturdy construct, decent lights and controls. It's not very fast and has poor torque when going up slopes. But she always drives in her town which is quite flat. The car was meant to keep her active. She used to walk a lot but now gets too tired. So for the journeys to shops and friends that are far for her to walk this is good.
He now thinks that it could be upgraded with better batteries or a second battery pack. May be also better motor though the parts may not be up to stronger torque. But if you live in a city or town and need something this is good. Particularly for younger and older people who do not want expense of a standard car. Check legal standards in your country first.

I seen this car and being a sensible person thought that it would be perfect car for my needs. Sadly after some research I discovered I would not be able to drive this car on public roads in my area.

No wonder here Not USA street legal. No seatbelts or airbags. Probably no papers even for registration? It is legal to use on private property like golf courses.

It is actually a good idea as such a simple vehicle could suit the needs of many, unfortunately this kind of vehicle will propably never meet legal safety requirements here in Europe I fear.
You are right, they can't meet Chinese road safety either. You can only see them in rural areas where there is less police supervision. And it is designed for aged people.

Yeah, like a Briggs and Stratton 17.5 HP gas motor. It's what is in my Craftsman lawn mower. Easily pulls 500 pounds and with the right gearing, one could expect highway speeds.
The motor is from a washing machine. I'm being serious.

As much as I don't really like anything electric, this is an electric car that I would definitely buy and use as an errand runner. That way, I won't be wasting gas in my work truck just to head to town for groceries! :) (I own a Ford F-150 and I haul quite a lot with it, so every bit of gas matters).
I will definitely buy this car later this year; as long as I can get it in a purple color and as long as it can meet the speed limit here where I'm at (65 MPH).

How fast can it go? Chicago strong winds and blizzard snow storms might cause a maneuvering problem. It’s a nice small car.
It's about 35 kilometers per hour. As a small electric car, it's not as good as a traditional car in some respects. Just like bicycles and motorcycles,their use crowds and usage scenarios are different, you won't compare them.
These are special type of chinese evs. They are regulated like mopeds in texas. Under 50 km/h and 5kw, and anyone, literarly anyone can drive them. These type of "cars" are I think like the T-model for the states or like the vespa for Italy.

It's a GEM car. First produced in the United States of America in 1998. You can see various versions of it being used by parks and small facilities. Mostly the pickup version.
Probably could pick up a used one cheap and upgrade the batteries.

Can they put the dash and front seat from the 4 door in the 2 door? Why is the rear seat so far back? It could easily be placed farther forward to increase the space behind it. Having the space between the doors is weird. The doors could be longer.
greggv8 I looked on the site and there are different models, Jason bought the cheapest one available, so it gets less stuff and the dashboard is that way to reduce costs.
Additionally, this 4 door has the rear seats mounted that way because of the little jump seats behind the front seats, remember this things are shorter than a smart fortwo, so it is their way of making the most of the space available, these are pretty neat overall, especially considering how much they cost!!
@@santileonsteinberg1441 In the Jalopnik video they showed how the spare is supposed to mount to the inside of the rear door but there was nothing with which to mount the spare. Perhaps somewhere someone got shipped a car with two spare tire mounts and no mirrors while Jason got two sets of mirrors? ;)

It mostly fills in the space occupied by golfcarts here in the US. So like, business parks, old people going back and forth in a neighborhood, or lazy people going to the market down the street would use this.
It would make a perfectly good NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle).

I think it's exciting that more and more of these tiny, practical vehicles are being developed. I've no problem with people wanting to own $50,000 Teslas (if you've got the cash, spend it on the things you love!), but wealthy folks have ample transportation choices already.
I'm poor. I had to sell my small (petrol) car several years ago and can now only afford to ride an old bicycle worth about £35. It's weighed down with racks and panniers. I'm in the north of England, so the weather's changeable (in other words, it's usually cold and wet) and cycling 12 miles carrying 50lbs of groceries in blustery rain is a miserable experience.
It'd be great if small electric vehicles became a more common sight on our roads. At the moment most EVs are amusing toys for people who like them and want them - but don't really NEED them, because they've got so many other options.
I need one.
Hopefully, competition will keep improving things and - more importantly - driving down prices. Of course it's sad that not every company can survive, but if the failures strengthen the overall 'breed', we'll all benefit in the long run.
