  • More than 20 years after the controversial acquittal of O.J. Simpson, the so-called “trial of the century” is back in the spotlight thanks to the TV dramatization “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” reports NBC’s Joe Fryer. The lead prosecutor in the case, Marcia Clark, tells TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie that Judge Lance Ito “treated me like a second-class citizen.” She says the upcoming documentary series “O.J. Is Innocent” is “nonsense” and admits she is not at peace with Simpson’s acquittal.

      What was sexist was her not being treated with respect or taken seriously because of her gender. She was bullied in court and criticized for not appearing "feminine" enough. They told her to change her hair, to wear skirts and the worst most condescending thing you can say to a women; "smile". Its insulting and perverted. As another female the interviewer can have girl talk with her and address her "controversial" hair in a jokey manner. Her last two questions were legitimate. She and her partner had an intriguing, loving and supportive dynamic for two associates. The last question is valid and not sexist in the slightest. She was simply asked if her kids are interested in viewing a show that depicts a very difficult time in their mother's life. I don't know if I could.

      In fairness though.. I'm sure Savannah can relate. She's in media, she gets superficially criticized, and I'm sure she hears a lot of BS about how she looks on any given day.

    Judge Ito doesn't get nearly enough blame for how awful of a job he did. You could argue he is more to blame than the jurors.

  • @estelazalazar2428

    I dont understand why she was so criticized. I think she was a very beautiful woman before the media trashed her for not being "feminine enough". Hypocrites.

    • @einc70
      @einc70 7 лет назад +9

      Estela Zalazar There was the Rodney king case around the same time. It got the entire L.A black community mad. Lucky there wasn't a global riot then. So that played out in the public opinion and I think jurors' decision on that case. There was other stuffs going on in the background. There were people rooting for Simpson but less of those who opposed. So racism played out big time in that case. And Clark coming off on the national icon like Simpson was a huge deal. Literally everyone were rooting for the guy and dissed the "white" chick. So there was the public pressure also... until the evidences were starting to unfold...

      +einc70 I love Marcia. She's beautiful, real, lively, sweet, and without an ounce of bitterness. Race had nothing to do with her being aesthetically vilified, and treated with less respect inside and outside of the courtroom. She simply was an easy target being a woman, and to an extent vulnerable. I agree with Estela.

    • @einc70
      @einc70 7 лет назад

      Giselle Raphael if you watched the series it starts off with the Rodney King incident. It wasn't edited that way by accident. I'm not from the U.S. But the racial tension that ensued from the incident took a toll there in a very bad way, just like those black kids getting shot dead by white cops back East for no reason. I've lived 2 years in L.A, 1998-2000, in my mid-twenties. The racial tension related to the Rodney King case was still very vivid there, that's the feel I was getting from the locals. So I believe it played out in that case. But I also understand how being a woman could be an argument against it. So sexism as both you mentioned.

People keep saying that is dealing on race, but I don't see it. Your star witness admitted to that, that has to be relevant.

      Second, I understand you want racism to be over with, I don't agree with you but I get it. But I am 39 and grew up in Southern California during Rodney King, OJ, Crack, etc. I ask that you try to understand and not disregard black people, who for some crazy reason, believe OJ is innocent. Your good life doesn't exist without comparing it to the have-nots. And the true colors come out. Racist, bigoted, etc. Yeah, that is who you are. Light over dark has always been the way of the world. I shouldn't know you have 800k in your account and your house is huge, but I do because that defines you. But watching it now I can appreciate what happened a lot more and oh my god so riveting so powerful so dramatic. But with all the conversation about the case I just have to say one thing.
