What I always liked the most about Sewer Shark were the really decent practical effects and the overall Sci-Fi look of the tunnels and ship. Love this stuff.
@@GoodBadFlicks Didn’t know they shot this on film- totally deserves a 4K remaster. They’d sell a few hundred thousand units at least to us retro gaming weirdos who’ve been pirating the thing for years.
Christ. Thanks for the memories. First, i use to blast Ministry - Jesus Built My Hotrod from my dad's station wagon while doing 15 mph over the street posted mph of 25. Second, i spent too many hours on my friends couch, drinking coffee, smoking way too many cigs and playing this game. Over twenty years ago.
Directed by John Dykstra, academy award winning effects genius of films such as, Star Wars, Spider-Man 1 and 2, Lifeforce, Ghost in the Shell, X-Men First Class, Godzilla 2014, Batman Forever, Star Trek the Motion Picture, and Inglorious Basterds.
It was nice to see more of this game than just the first level; not bad. Robert Costanzo also voiced Detective Harvey Bullock in "Batman: the Animated Series" (love it).
I used to watch my older brother play this game all the time. He would usually crash within a minute of beginning the first level because of the walls or the enemies. That didn't matter because the game was so cool to us at the time and he would play it over and over. In fact, it was one of my earliest memories of the Sega CD (which my brother always defended, even the 32X add-on).
Nice of you to reply to comments. I loved my Genesis and Super Nintendo, and was hungry for the next generation, but got the Sega CD at the Worst time, a few months before the PS1 release. The plus was good prices on used games. I fell in love with FMV games because it felt like a link between gaming and movies and my family was always telling me I should be a 'normal' person and watch tv instead of gaming. It also felt like a leap ahead to see real filmed locations rather than bulky polygons of the competition. I played the heck out of Sewer Shark, Wirehead, Prize Fighter, and Rebel Assault II. I, too, even succumbed to the 90s cheesiness of Make my Video: Kris's Cross. I was able to finish Sewer Shark in a siting which I did multiple times with a real sense of accomplishment. I feel like modern game cutscenes / especially the ones that feel like they are a part of the game environment and don't take you out of it took a lot of cues from this era. Sometimes, interactive FMV ideas are even resurrected for bonus features or menus on modern movies :)
+TigerBearCatBrandon I try to respond when I can. I obviously can't reply to every comment but I at least make an effort. :) I was addicted to Night Trap. It was like playing a cheesy B movie, which I loved. Ground Zero Texas was great too, with arcade action mixed into the FMV. I was bummed the Night Trap kickstarter was a bust because I would have loved to play that in HD. Sega was pushing the technology at the time but most folks didn't want to shell out the extra money to get an add on to an existing console, for only a few games. Had the library been a little bigger it may have stood a better chance.
The thing you don’t see here is the terrible pause when the thing switched tunnels or pretty much every action. You had to anticipate every move, which got very frustrating.
This brings back good memories. Christmas day, my older brother got this game, while I watched with glee as I am eating Ragin' Cajun Cheetos. Great times.
Great review for one of my favorites games , hope you do all of the Fmv sega cd games eventually . Somehow i regard these as some of the best cheesy z movies to come out of the 90s . Night Trap, Double Switch, Corpse Killer, Ground Zero Texas, Tomcat Alley , couldn't get enough of these silly but oh so entertaining movie games and i don't know why but the terrible video quality was endearing in an odd way although i appreciated the games that received the upgrade treatment, i always found myself coming back to the versions with inferior video and audio . Just have to say i agree about Ghost, this guy was and is a legend
These types of games is what i wanted to play as a kid. But they used to tell me it was too "mature" for me. I remember asking my cousins to play and they were like "nope you can't. Keep your hands on your genesis". But joke was on them when my mom and i went to NY and she bought me a Playstation a day before the release date and my cousins had to wait 3 years before getting it. Karma people. Believe in it.
WTF!?! Ron Jeremy used to be not fat!? I mean, Ron Jeremy? Who's Ron Jeremy? But seriously, I got a laugh when I saw him in The Chase (I think that's the name). That movie was great! Charlie Sheen, Henry Rollins, Flea from Red Hot Chilly Peppers, Ron Jeremy (albeit for 1 second)... What a great movie.
It was a sad day for gaming when Sega got out of the hardware business. They were always ahead of the pack(often to their detriment). Dreamcast is still my all time favorite system.
Hey everyone if you like these videos I'd suggest watching them on his website or on blip I mean not only is it still free but it helps Cecil out a lot more
I will always have a place in my heart for full motion video, main reason I love the command and conquer series. Also wonder if the uncut undegitised film of this game is out there and how it looks.
This game was so frustrating back in the day. As a 12-year-old kid, I enjoyed the B-movie camp and found the footage interesting and entertaining, but I could never hit all the ratigators, so I never made it very far.
I was in shock when I first saw that Nintendo commercial and that Gibby would sell the rights to one of his songs to them..still shocked to be honest..I mean I know he had just sang lead on JBMH but still..damn Gibby!!!
I am now officially sure that you're the exact same age as me. Also at 3:04, I'm a little disappointed that you didn't then cut to Matthew Lillard saying "Crash... and BURN!"
You should do more of these fella. They are great!!! Plus it goes great with 'Flicks' as well. Why haven't you done more (I take it maybe you're to tied up with Flicks) I love your channels, you do fantastic work.
Here in Mexico, Nintendo had the upper hand marketing wise, heck, if I didn't make trips to my local Blockbuster, I'd entirely forgotten that Genesis games existed at all, same with the PlayStation later on, I had to rely on european magazines for all my PlayStation info. I was never a fan of FMV games, but I guess the closest one I've ever enjoyed was Area 51 on the PS1, I loved to play that cheese-fest with my cousins, we had a blast riffing on all the awful cutscenes and the ridiculous "aliens" :P
This game needs a sequel, but since FMV isn't much of a thing today, the sequel might look like a Descent or even a Forsaken type of game but on rails.
I've always loved this game. I also have the 3DO version and the quality is much better and bigger picture. This version is good too. I have no problem defending Sega CD. It had some really good games.
This whole vid I was trying to place the mayor guy... It's Arnold's bestie from the construction site in Total Recall 🤣 (edit: I see you mention this, later on) 😔
PS: i didn't understand the point of 5:11 (ROCK ME AMADEUS). i thought it was funny as hell and I love looping that bit but why was the clip put in? Lol but still...
GoodBadFlicks I knew about Falco being the love interest but was dense on the band name being FALCO for ROCK ME AMADEUS. lol. Was a good video and glad I subscribed though since I like your vids. i just didn't get the ref until you said something.
I remember wasting countless hours & hours watching the opening cutscene NOT playing tha game and dying just blown away(pun intended)by this evolution of a game that I had never seen tha likes of before; it's 1 of tha 1st times I was ever seduced by graphics over gameplay!
Damn Cecil your voice was so different back then. Getting old aint easy right?🤣 Anyway, I just bought the Sega Genesis Mini 2 and this game is on it. Cant wait to play. I always wanted a Sega CD when I was young but we couldn't afford it.
Hey, great video. I've been watching you for a few months now and I love them. Oh and what's the song at 5:12? I've heard it before but never knew what it was 😂
LOL@ the Falco shout out. I remember being so terrible at this game Stenchler would send a drone to kill me. Game was kinda boring. I remember renting a terrible Cowboys vs 49ers game and I wanna say a Scottie Pippen basketball game
Twice, thanks for this. Bringing some OLD memories with the Sega CD. FMV games get a lot of shit now, but people seem to forget how groundbreaking they were at the time.
Aside from the Make my Video games, a lot of the FMV are a good bit of fun. A lot of the cinematic elements in games now are directly because of FMV games.
Lol, its weird af hearing them talk about solar city in a game almost thirty years old because me and my brother both work at Elon Musks Las Vegas solar city branch. It is just weird hearing solar city repeatedly referenced in a thirty year old fmv game. It's definitely a good company to work for though, for sure. Shit, for a Christmas bonus they gave us fucking Tesla stocks. I don't know the first thing about the stock market, but I do know the little bit they gave us is currently worth around $6,000, so you won't hear me complaining. Thank you Mr. Musk, I'll see you on Mars when you eventually terraform and colonize it.
i played almost every FMV sega cd game back in the day and liked most of them very much. this here was one of my first ones i played and i was blown away by the intro but remember that i was dissapointed that the actual gameplay had such shitty music and sound fx that almost sound like from an NES. i dont get why they gave this game blasting digitized sound fx from the gun you shoot. i finished the game later on panasonic 3do and made it all the way to solar city ;-)). the version was way superior and i liked it a lot. even when i dont understand that much english at that time ( i am german) i also liked night trap, tomcat alley and ground zero texas a lot.

Off World Interceptor is great because they knew how cheesy the cut scenes were so they put in a couple of guy MST3K style to trash the game while it was going on. Really funny!
GoodBadFlicks blast processing was nothing compared to the power glove... I love the power glove... It's so bad. Lol i cant believe i once thought that was "cool". Funny to think that the system struggled to make Double Switch playable and now there's an android version that is prob the most addictive version yet that can play on your phone lol
I got my Sega-CD for my birthday in '93. I got Sewer Shark and a few other games.
I absolutely love Sewer Shark. Played it several times growing up.
What I always liked the most about Sewer Shark were the really decent practical effects and the overall Sci-Fi look of the tunnels and ship. Love this stuff.
andersdenkend I wish they would do an HD version. It was shot on film so it would look pretty amazing

Fun fact: _Sewer Shark_ was directed by the same guy who ran Industrial Light and Magic for _Star Wars: A New Hope_.

I used to watch my older brother play this game all the time.
He would usually crash within a minute of beginning the first level because of the walls or the enemies.
That didn't matter because the game was so cool to us at the time and he would play it over and over.

This brings back good memories. Christmas day, my older brother got this game, while I watched with glee as I am eating Ragin' Cajun Cheetos. Great times.
the Falco joke had me dying man. thank you.
This game does confirm the old saying that you can't pick your own call sign (nickname).
Snatcher, Lunar, and Popful mail were great sega cd games. Sewer Shark reminds me of rebel assault tho.
Kind of yeah. A rail shooter only without the Star Wars license
I remember seeing trailers for Sewer Shark and thinking it looked mind blowing.
I loved this game when I was a kid. I got so hyped when I achieved the title Exterminator. I felt godlike.
6:50 OOOOHHH MY GOOOOOOOD!
"the door was unlocked? and there's no wall on the other side"
That hilarious.
omg this has such perfect 80's camp, wait was that girl the voice of Harley quin? so many memberberries!
This series is great. Keep it going.

I have such a soft spot for the old FMV games. I want to cover as many as I can eventually.
GoodBadFlicks
Can't wait Mr Flick, should be great
For some reason I always thought that the secretary was Arleen Sorkin cause she sounded a bit like Harley Quinn from the Batman animated series.
Love your good bad games vids Cecil

Between late 1994 and early 1998, Sega apparently had a lethal case of unchecked stupidity that they've never been able to escape from.
A remake I could get behind
Hey everyone if you like these videos I'd suggest watching them on his website or on blip I mean not only is it still free but it helps Cecil out a lot more
The only fond memory from this era was AVP for Jaguar...still one of my favorites to this day..and I still payed 60 bucks for it a few years back..

(Personal fact : ever since the film, I've randomly done, over the years, the "recall, recall" thing.....to nobody's delight 😐)
Catfish to Ghost, THE DANG THANG BIT MEH!!
If you put this Disc into a regular CD player and listen to track 2 You'll be pleasantly surprised, or pee your pants
I cant wait to see you Make the Video.
It is tempting lol
The Marky Mark one was hilariously awful.
This game needs a sequel, but since FMV isn't much of a thing today, the sequel might look like a Descent or even a Forsaken type of game but on rails.
Agreed, I thought FMV was going to change gaming forever with big studios throwing their hats in the ring. Didn't play out that way really...

just thinking about the 90s gives me a headache now. everything was so "XTREME!!!" apparently we had never heard of Xanax back then.
Honestly I loved SEWER SHARK. Was short and hard as hell but was quite fun. i actually beat it myself.

I found the quota part too hard for me, combined with flight path, if there was a way to have one or the other, it could've been easier
Wow I remember this game. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
surprised no mention of john dykstra but as usual a great job

Oh and what's the song at 5:12? I've heard it before but never knew what it was 😂
James Buckett Thanks! "Rock me Amadeus" by Falco
I believe "This Guy" was Bill Paxton long before Twister.
R.I.P. Bill you were great.
You should do some videos on some other sega cd games like texas ground zero or double switch. Or even Corpse Killer, that would be fantastic
I plan on doing all of those, it is just a matter of time.
Thumbs up for 8-bit "Destroyer of the Universe"
LOL@ the Falco shout out. I remember being so terrible at this game Stenchler would send a drone to kill me. Game was kinda boring. I remember renting a terrible Cowboys vs 49ers game and I wanna say a Scottie Pippen basketball game
BabyFacedAssassin301 back in 92 it was amazing!
I loved Sewer Shark. Played it over and over. The bad acting wasn't planned?
sjbrooksy45 they probably hammed it up a bit
A MILLION POUNDS OF TUBESTEAK
thats all you gotta deliver hotshot!
Another slamming funny episode Cecil! I think saga cd did do a ''Terminator'' game you think you could try that one in the future?
Definitely
The music on that game was amazing. I thought the Batman Returns CD had an amazing soundtrack, but the Terminator one blew my mind.
I use to play the hell out of this game when I was like 9 or 10

like that 8bit amon amarth cover!!
I've got this on my 3DO. I used to love it, but could never fuel up
Great episode. Didn't the Sega Geneisis/CD allow 64 colors on screen rather than 32?
According to Tom Zito, it was 32. I believe it was bumped up to 64 with the addition of the 32x but I might be wrong.
just to think that ONE year later you could get descent ... oO oh my
+iunary games really took off back then
+GoodBadFlicks can you talk about Pumpkinhead II Bloodwings
is this what they thought the future of gaming would be? thank god this stuff didn't catch on
4:34 Stencilers, that's the pain in the *ss cop from Die Hard 2.....sorry I know that.
3 million just for conversion!!!!?? WTF?
Wasn't that guy in NYPD Blue?

I never had a SEGA system, I went from ATARI 2600 to NINTENDO gameing systems so I missed out on these cool games.😫
i played almost every FMV sega cd game back in the day and liked most of them very much.
this here was one of my first ones i played and i was blown away by the intro but remember that i was dissapointed that the actual gameplay had such shitty music and sound fx that almost sound like from an NES. i dont get why they gave this game blasting digitized sound fx from the gun you shoot.
i finished the game later on panasonic 3do and made it all the way to solar city ;-)). the version was way superior and i liked it a lot. even when i dont understand that much english at that time ( i am german)
i also liked night trap, tomcat alley and ground zero texas a lot.
DOG MEAT!!!!!!!!
(or issit dog breath?)
Dog meat, then Ratbreath!
Some awesome gaming memories of the 90's, with a lot of cringe FMV clips. Does anyone remember that FPS on the PS1 called Disruptor? It had some corny FMV clips inbetween the levels, really added to the charm of the game!
Off World Interceptor is great because they knew how cheesy the cut scenes were so they put in a couple of guy MST3K style to trash the game while it was going on. Really funny!
I still have Disruptor. It has a special place in my heart. I occasionally break out the PS1 and play that and _Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver_.
GoodBadFlicks blast processing was nothing compared to the power glove... I love the power glove... It's so bad. Lol i cant believe i once thought that was "cool". When i was younger i was well into the console wars, firmly on segas side and looking on to my nintendo friends in envy of their mario kart and mario world.

How're you supposed to shoot the enemies when everything is a blurry pixelated mess?
I still have my Sega cd.
he's on the beach?I thought they lived in the sewers now or no?
I think AVGN summed it up perfectly - I only have a two word review for this game: shit shark.
When Sega's marketing was run by dudebros. Now it's Microsoft.
Funny to think that the system struggled to make Double Switch playable and now there's an android version that is prob the most addictive version yet that can play on your phone lol
Stenchler and his wife are Matilda mam n dad lol
there are a few good games motion capture games, gabriel knight 2 for instance :>
wolf wing I liked Phantasmagoria too
GoodBadFlicks didn't get to play too many unfortunetly as FMV was at a time I had no computer :> Just found a way to play GKII later.
How about some 3DO Good/Bad Games videos?
Dude I would love to meet you, if you one day decide to go to South America (I live in Chile) count with me
sewer shark was imposible, night trap drove me cray n only had it the first 5 mintunes
So is Stenchler evil?
When are you gonna do a review in person
but then there won't be any more mystery!
AHA! You're rebooting Spoony's old content! I mean, someone has to make FMV Hell if he's not going to.
Hey Ever Heard of a Game called War Of Monsters
Yep, good stuff
GoodBadFlicks yeah i loved that game, it needs more love
Fucking great episode
Many thanks!
Is it Ms or does AVGN sound different?
