Irelia is my all time favourite champion lore wise and game play wise. There was a period in 2020 where she had an incredibly low pick/ban rate and still had her 5 stack passive. That's when she was most fun, hands down. It's just depressing to me that Riot cares more about simplifying her for the sake of popularity and winrate rather than her character identity and enjoyability.

I follow Riot August's stream and I'm a part of his discored server and when I asked him one time on one of his streams how can Viego be possibly balanced when he has 5-6 passives and 18 basic abilitys. And his answere was that it's not about what he has but what he dosen't have. Viego dosen't have on demand access to all of this passives and abilitys, he has to kill someone to get them. So prevent him from killing anyon. Which is very doable, because he has bad gap closing and the healing from Sovereign Domination is conditional as well, making it hard for him to survive team fights and engageing with them and further denying him kills. Moral of the story, just because a champion has a lot of tools that dosen't mean they don't have counterplay.

And while being good dancer with mumbo-jumbo technic can save your life in local fights with minimum forces, a big, general battle (afaik, those were considered as divine judgement in Medieval Age) would be too chaotic, especially for a human, who never was there. There could be **no way** she wouldn't be wounded (and Awaken cinematickinda shown it). The only logical solution, though, comes from the same Awaken cinematic. If Riot retcon it so, that Karma finds Irelia and becomes her **active** mentor and leader, who heavily defenfed her throughout noxian campaign... Than, probably, yeah, it will be plausible. I'd even say it would explain other screw-ups in her lore.

I main Irelia. The thing about her armor being sharp enhances the idea of her movement being perfect. The thin pieces of metal around her face don’t give her any real protection, but this is Ionia, the land of magic; Form and function are literally the same thing. Irelia can dance and battle with these random pieces of metal because she knows it will never touch her, only her enemies, just like her blades. It also makes reminds me of the fact that outsiders are surprised at how well designed and engineered common object are in Ionia. At Riven’s trial, the judges mallet is a perfectly rounded sphere of wood. Her simple wooden stool is impeccably crafted. When Taliya arrives in Ionia with nothing, an innkeeper gives her an old raggedy shirt so she has something to wear. And Taliya comments on how sturdy and comfortable the fabric is. How beautiful the design is. Their design isn’t practical from an outside perspective, but in Ionia, form is function. Designing things to be beautiful makes them better because of the intrinsic magic that surrounds them.
Irelia sits in that category of champions where I don't care about her. Hate playing her and against her. I don't like seeing her in anything but she's kina a poster child champ so she'll be in stuff regardless. She's just boring to me. Even after hearing the cliff notes of her lore I don't care. I never knew her blades were her family crest because they just look like swords.
Weeelll the pointy parts of her design might also hint that this dance that is doing is dangerous and she has so much expertise that she might use them to her advantage , though this isnt communicated in her lore or bio so im just huffing mad coppium
As someone who went to school with ex-child soldiers in college, they surprisingly lack visible scars. Still remember what they told me if you have scars you're either crippled or already dead.

The thing that ACTUALLY tilts me about her is the sound design of her blades. They are waaaay too crisp, swingy, swooshy, when they’re on the same screen as me it kills my brain cells idk why!
She’s not designed very well to match her thematic the best, and her gameplay is “either juggle her in the sky til she’s dead, or pick a god and pray” Despite all that, she’s still in my top 10 champs of all time (as of this comment, may change in the future). I like her story, her personality fits for what she’s gone through, and I like playing fighters and divers like Vi and Warwick, so she fits my playstyle. People might be thinking how I might like a character despite being aware of their many flaws. You can still like something even if it’s bad. The Bayformer movies aren’t good, but I still enjoy watching them like it’s the first time again. People like what they like.
I don't really agree with alot of what you say on this one. I actually think that irellia being pretty clean after all these years of was shows how insane of a fighter she is, not even being touched by an enemy. I don't think she would let her blades get dirty, and all that fighting experience has probably made her technique VERY precise. Her blades being more prominent than her attire makes more sense. She's a *blade* dancer, not a ribbon dancer. It also lets her visual effects focus more on her weapons, which are great for gameplay. If you want to see flashyness from tye dancing side of it, it's literally her core gameplay, dashing around, resets, big ult, blades start glowing etc. I would say her design lends her to be top of her power level in a way, basically the peak of "human fighter" in a world full of gods and mages.

The origins of tech and hex crystals in general has been reopened due to Skarner getting reworked last as well as the Brackern as a whole being retcon I think it would be really interesting if riot re-developed history of the origins of the corpse crystals/hex tech. think about it I can just imagine an entire Clan Ferros version of the manhattan project having piltovers best scientist, working secretly in a compound deep underground within the samiran desert harvesting and experimenting on the crystals and drawing up the first concepts and drafts of modern day Hextech witch jayce and viktor will later use for their own creations.
I am an Irelia main, have been since before her rework. I adore her story and gameplay ! I don’t understand why people hate her so much :/ she is quite punishing if you play her wrong, without a lead ( or good catch up cs ) she is easly sunked in Mid and late game. Her Q cd might be a bit too short true but unlike a lot of other aa base bruisers she has very fewer room for error. Her W was significantly nerfed and she is in a forever state of : if you’re good on her you’ll stomp, if not prepare to be a meat shield.
I mained irelia before the rework because she was fun and simple. When they did the rework, I quit playing her after trying for a month. Then a year later, without a real main to play, I decided to properly learn to play her so it's somewhat fine now. I understand that most people don't like her lol, all my friends hate her .

I really love that Riot took a story of an Asian-inspired nation’s fight against oppression and occupation and then made one of the only white-passing Ionian champions into the main hero who will save them all.
Irelia is that obnoxious design of everything in her kit is simply to enable to get close to the enemy and them engage in a slap fight. The problem is that with champions like Yasuo who will explode when an idiot thinks he is brain dead and forgets that he is as fragile as a napkin drenched in lighter fluid, Irelia can and will tank WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much damage if she is caught up while keeping her HP to a safe level with the amount of life steal they have PLUS the mobility.
I actually hate Irelia in the story as well, I loathe how "good" she is. Like there is no nuance to her story, even Lux has nuance despite being the most stereotypical "good" girl ever (funny how both wear a spandex with armor pieces taped onto it). Like a good example of this is the "New Expansion: Guardians of the Ancient | Legends of Runeterra" cinematic, like as much as I love Zilean and the cinematic being animated by an animation team I actually already followed. I am bothered by the fact that the sides are so "good vs bad" that a time grandpa on another continent, is meddling in a conflict of whom he probably knows far to little about to make any call on who to help, let alone if he should meddle in the first place. Tho I am kinda amused by the idea that canonically Ionia only won the war because Zilean felt like helping them out. But yea, in many ways Ionia has become the new Demacia as the undisputed "good guy" region, with Demacia first becoming a classist society discriminating against mages and now since mageseeker being a bigoted genocidal shithole. I mean hell, since Zed's comic the only unconditionally "evil" champ from Ionia is Jhin. Like pretty much any conflict in Ionia can be boiled down "it's Noxus fault".

She's supposed to represent something for ionia. The navori represent a sect of ionians that have to take up a hard, sharp exterior while keeping what makes them ionian at the core of their design. Rip off all that armor and she's wearing the same thing as the other blade dancers in LOR. But she's a figurehead. Her armor always looked very ceremonial to me. In the cinematic I get why she wouldn't be in a practical set of clothes for combat because it has to be marketable, her LOR card art is a flop for me because theyve been so good about putting champs in other outfits to show they're not these action figures that have the barry b benson closet with a dozen copies of the same clothes, and for irelia they just put her in the same thing, in the same landscape of her and her blades flowering out of a field of trifarian soldiers. Gameplay-wise she's atrocious to play against and I hate her though lol. idk, I just.. appreciate her being in a full suit of actual armor when we could easily have an ashe situation. Her face is pretty yet melancholic. We never see her smile or hear her happy or jovial, those aspects of her design are scars the same as the ones she could have under her armor. I want Zed and Kayn's lore pushed forward because.. like, what have they done? We know the shadow order is around but we never hear about them. What's *their* relationship with the brotherhood of navori? I know Yasuo just left ionia finally, but what would an interaction between them look like? When can we see some characterization of the stoic driven Irelia butting heads with the torn unbalanced symbol of balance that is Karma? All we've seen is Karma letting her personal struggles make it harder to represent balance, and I think meeting Irelia could grow her character in interesting ways, reinforcing the whole with great power comes great responsibility type lesson we see so much. Again, just some word soup, I rarely comment on youtube vids or anything but I just kinda felt like it this time :3

And while being good dancer with mumbo-jumbo technic can save your life in local fights with minimum forces, a big, general battle (afaik, those were considered as divine judgement in Medieval Age) would be too chaotic, especially for a human, who never was there. There could be **no way** she wouldn't be wounded (and Awaken cinematickinda shown it).
The only logical solution, though, comes from the same Awaken cinematic. If Riot retcon it so, that Karma finds Irelia and becomes her **active** mentor and leader, who heavily defenfed her throughout noxian campaign... Than, probably, yeah, it will be plausible. I'd even say it would explain other screw-ups in her lore.

@@johancito16345 i mean im pretty sure she does have cuts, she's been beaten up when she got home after all, but the armor is built to be sturdy and wrapped around important points of her body, it would literally make no sense if she wears an armor that breaks itself, it has to be either extremely strong and sturdy (as it is suggested to be) or very light and only serve to help her dancing and cutting, helping her be more nimble
I main Irelia. The thing about her armor being sharp enhances the idea of her movement being perfect. The thin pieces of metal around her face don’t give her any real protection, but this is Ionia, the land of magic; Form and function are literally the same thing. Irelia can dance and battle with these random pieces of metal because she knows it will never touch her, only her enemies, just like her blades.
It also makes reminds me of the fact that outsiders are surprised at how well designed and engineered common object are in Ionia. At Riven’s trial, the judges mallet is a perfectly rounded sphere of wood. Her simple wooden stool is impeccably crafted. When Taliya arrives in Ionia with nothing, an innkeeper gives her an old raggedy shirt so she has something to wear. And Taliya comments on how sturdy and comfortable the fabric is. How beautiful the design is.
Their design isn’t practical from an outside perspective, but in Ionia, form is function. Designing things to be beautiful makes them better because of the intrinsic magic that surrounds them.
Irelia sits in that category of champions where I don't care about her. Hate playing her and against her. I don't like seeing her in anything but she's kina a poster child champ so she'll be in stuff regardless.
She's just boring to me. Even after hearing the cliff notes of her lore I don't care. I never knew her blades were her family crest because they just look like swords.

The thing that ACTUALLY tilts me about her is the sound design of her blades. They are waaaay too crisp, swingy, swooshy, when they’re on the same screen as me it kills my brain cells idk why!
She’s not designed very well to match her thematic the best, and her gameplay is “either juggle her in the sky til she’s dead, or pick a god and pray”
Despite all that, she’s still in my top 10 champs of all time (as of this comment, may change in the future). I like her story, her personality fits for what she’s gone through, and I like playing fighters and divers like Vi and Warwick, so she fits my playstyle.
People might be thinking how I might like a character despite being aware of their many flaws. You can still like something even if it’s bad. The Bayformer movies aren’t good, but I still enjoy watching them like it’s the first time again. People like what they like.
I don't really agree with alot of what you say on this one. I actually think that irellia being pretty clean after all these years of was shows how insane of a fighter she is, not even being touched by an enemy. I don't think she would let her blades get dirty, and all that fighting experience has probably made her technique VERY precise. Her blades being more prominent than her attire makes more sense. She's a *blade* dancer, not a ribbon dancer. It also lets her visual effects focus more on her weapons, which are great for gameplay. If you want to see flashyness from tye dancing side of it, it's literally her core gameplay, dashing around, resets, big ult, blades start glowing etc.
I would say her design lends her to be top of her power level in a way, basically the peak of "human fighter" in a world full of gods and mages.

The origins of tech and hex crystals in general has been reopened due to Skarner getting reworked last as well as the Brackern as a whole being retcon I think it would be really interesting if riot re-developed history of the origins of the corpse crystals/hex tech. think about it I can just imagine an entire Clan Ferros version of the manhattan project having piltovers best scientist, working secretly in a compound deep underground within the samiran desert harvesting and experimenting on the crystals and drawing up the first concepts and drafts of modern day Hextech witch jayce and viktor will later use for their own creations.
I am an Irelia main, have been since before her rework. I adore her story and gameplay ! I don’t understand why people hate her so much :/ she is quite punishing if you play her wrong, without a lead ( or good catch up cs ) she is easly sunked in Mid and late game. Her Q cd might be a bit too short true but unlike a lot of other aa base bruisers she has very fewer room for error. Her W was significantly nerfed and she is in a forever state of : if you’re good on her you’ll stomp, if not prepare to be a meat shield.
I mained irelia before the rework because she was fun and simple. When they did the rework, I quit playing her after trying for a month. Then a year later, without a real main to play, I decided to properly learn to play her so it's somewhat fine now. I understand that most people don't like her lol, all my friends hate her .

her legendary skin actually uses the exact same animations for her auto attacks... the only real auto attack change is how the blades move around her

I agree, she gets more than others with the yone effect, but, you saying that "my time has come" 37 minutes into the game is not terribly relevant as most champs will be at full build and deaths and kills don't matter anymore as they are just a means to get your next item quicker. I really love that Riot took a story of an Asian-inspired nation’s fight against oppression and occupation and then made one of the only white-passing Ionian champions into the main hero who will save them all.
Irelia is that obnoxious design of everything in her kit is simply to enable to get close to the enemy and them engage in a slap fight. The problem is that with champions like Yasuo who will explode when an idiot thinks he is brain dead and forgets that he is as fragile as a napkin drenched in lighter fluid, Irelia can and will tank WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much damage if she is caught up while keeping her HP to a safe level with the amount of life steal they have PLUS the mobility.
I actually hate Irelia in the story as well, I loathe how "good" she is. Like there is no nuance to her story, even Lux has nuance despite being the most stereotypical "good" girl ever (funny how both wear a spandex with armor pieces taped onto it).
Like a good example of this is the "New Expansion: Guardians of the Ancient | Legends of Runeterra" cinematic, like as much as I love Zilean and the cinematic being animated by an animation team I actually already followed. I am bothered by the fact that the sides are so "good vs bad" that a time grandpa on another continent, is meddling in a conflict of whom he probably knows far to little about to make any call on who to help, let alone if he should meddle in the first place.
Tho I am kinda amused by the idea that canonically Ionia only won the war because Zilean felt like helping them out.
But yea, in many ways Ionia has become the new Demacia as the undisputed "good guy" region, with Demacia first becoming a classist society discriminating against mages and now since mageseeker being a bigoted genocidal shithole. I mean hell, since Zed's comic the only unconditionally "evil" champ from Ionia is Jhin. Like pretty much any conflict in Ionia can be boiled down "it's Noxus fault".

it feels a little frustrating hearing so many people dislike so many league champ designs because theyre hot women wearing skimpy clothes when they should be in armor, winter clothes, etc. And this is coming from someone who hates irelia both because of her league gameplay and the apocalypse that is any time she's playable in legends of runeterra. idk, she's a military leader. She's supposed to represent something for ionia. The navori represent a sect of ionians that have to take up a hard, sharp exterior while keeping what makes them ionian at the core of their design. Rip off all that armor and she's wearing the same thing as the other blade dancers in LOR. But she's a figurehead. Her armor always looked very ceremonial to me. In the cinematic I get why she wouldn't be in a practical set of clothes for combat because it has to be marketable, her LOR card art is a flop for me because theyve been so good about putting champs in other outfits to show they're not these action figures that have the barry b benson closet with a dozen copies of the same clothes, and for irelia they just put her in the same thing, in the same landscape of her and her blades flowering out of a field of trifarian soldiers. Gameplay-wise she's atrocious to play against and I hate her though lol. idk, I just.. appreciate her being in a full suit of actual armor when we could easily have an ashe situation. Her face is pretty yet melancholic. We never see her smile or hear her happy or jovial, those aspects of her design are scars the same as the ones she could have under her armor. But all we see is what the Navori wants Ionia to see, the stoic leader bridging the gap between their culture and who they need to become to defend their homeland. ik this paragraph is all over the place I was just dumping my words out, I still love the vid and thanks for the content and also irelia is maybe a lesbian which is cool and based because im a lesbian B) gg
Posted the comment at 20 min right before nicky went over where they would like to see her lore go next, I think shifting to the internal struggles in ionia is exactly what we need. I want Zed and Kayn's lore pushed forward because.. like, what have they done? We know the shadow order is around but we never hear about them. What's *their* relationship with the brotherhood of navori? I know Yasuo just left ionia finally, but what would an interaction between them look like? When can we see some characterization of the stoic driven Irelia butting heads with the torn unbalanced symbol of balance that is Karma? All we've seen is Karma letting her personal struggles make it harder to represent balance, and I think meeting Irelia could grow her character in interesting ways, reinforcing the whole with great power comes great responsibility type lesson we see so much. Again, just some word soup, I rarely comment on youtube vids or anything but I just kinda felt like it this time :3
