My name is Matt Brockman, I hope you enjoy all of my trumpet covers, trumpet arrangements and trumpet multitracks! I have Bb trumpet sheet music available (mostly in the form of trumpet ensembles) for most arrangements but I arrange for other brass instruments as well. I also teach some trumpet lessons on here from time to time! Whether you play classical or lead trumpet, I hope you enjoy!

This is exactly how my professor explained it, and it changed the way I thought about it and helped a lot.

The valves and the length of the trumpet tubing is what controls the backpressure against the lips and shifts the frequency of vibration to match an harmonic of the tube length. The vibration of the lips is a result of the lip muscle tightness, air flow speed AND the back pressure which allows the vibrations to 'lock in' on a particular note.

Could you make a vid on how partials work? I know what they are and everything (I’ve been playing horn for 4 years) but I’ve never really known the logic behind them

Partials are just physics and resonance! You know how a guitar string will vibrate at 100hz, but if you fret it halfway down, it'll vibrate at 200hz? And a third of the way down will be 300, and 400, and 500, and so on? Did you also know about sympathetic vibrations? If you vibrate the air at 100hz, the string which is tuned to 100hz will vibrate at 100hz. If you play 200hz, that string will sympathetically vibrate at 200hz with a node in the middle. Some of the middle frequencies won't work well though, because of the destructive interference of the waves bouncing around, it isn't resonant.
It's the same thing with brass instruments. A Bflat or C or whatever it's tuned to will resonate at 100hz (not actually, but easy math). Next one up is 200hz, an octave, a doubling. Next is 300hz, which is a fifth above 200. Next is 400hz, which is a third above 300, another octave above the fundamental.
Pedal Bflat regular low Bflat middle F high Bflat!
If you want to change the note, just press down a valve, change the tuning of the guitar string by making it longer or shorter. Now your fundamental becomes E instead of F, and you build your overtones from 95hz instead of 100.
