    "Good lord!!" I keep reading about wobbly balancer issues on the LS2 & LS3... what the hell? Why isn't GM stepping up with a recall or something... very lame! So I figured once I got my GS, I'd just pull the factory one and install a good aftermarket unit, just to be safe... but holy sheep-dip this is a major job! Don't forget how much stuff you've already removed before you started tackling this steering rack. Bravo by the way, heck of a job, and great video! Once I find a GR I'm considering buying, you can be you nuts I'll be looking closely at that harmonic balancer for even a teeny-tiny twinge of wobble! Once again a VERY comprehensive log of step by step actions required in order to get the this component. Fascinating indeed.

      Hi Craig, yeah that problem is more common with the older vettes with the LS2 engines. It does occasionally happen to some LS3 engines but perhaps because my engine is a dry sump engine it may have a better balancer but Im not certain. My seems just fine for now. Yes that is a major job and a major pain in the you know what. I have nightmares about removing that rack and not to mention everything that sits in front of the motor. Thanks again for you support.

    Tie your steering wheel with your seat belt.

    Im just going to support the engine and lower the subframe, gives you plenty of room to get the balancer out.

    • @WATCHMEWRENCH
      @WATCHMEWRENCH  Год назад

      Thats a good idea and that would work easier on a 2 post lift.

    Great Video!I am at the point of getting the brake lines out of the way. It s looks like you bent the front lines to pull them back far enough to clear the unit. Before I give a hard pull, can you confirm this is the case?

    • @WATCHMEWRENCH
      @WATCHMEWRENCH  6 лет назад +2

      Thank you for watching and Im glad you asked first before proceeding ahead. I did NOT bend any line, I loosened any clips and clamps that held the lines into the frame or front cradle and then used a bungee cord to pull them and hold them out of the way. Dont physically bend any lines they have some play after you loosen any clips/clamps

      Things worked out perfectly. I have an automatic transmission and had to purchase a flexplate lock to remove and install the balancer.The video was a great confidence builder.

    I'm taking my rack out tomorrow. I've gotten it lose but not out of the car. I've done everything except remove the brake line clips. Do I have to twist it to clear the balancer?

    • @WATCHMEWRENCH
      @WATCHMEWRENCH  2 года назад +1

      Yes, I believe you will have to twist it around a bit.

    Once again great vid bud. Question? When removing the steering shaft, is there enough room to pull the shaft off the splines? Or must the gear assembly must be loose? Thank you

    • @WATCHMEWRENCH
      @WATCHMEWRENCH  6 лет назад +2

      Hi Jesse, the steering shaft on my vehicle pulled out without me having to loosen the gear assembly. There was play and I was able to pull it back and forth.

    My buddy blew something, possibly a seal, on his r.p. his vet is a 08, and previous owner fucked that car up with rigged shit.
    But my buddy got it running good and fixed up, anyways, is there a manual rack for these years? His car is cammed out, he's gona get a retune as well. Shit is quick and I think all that pressure is just gona blow what ever seal it is again. Any info is appreciated.

      I believe TRZ Motorsports and ECS both make manual steering rack kits and tubular cross members. Thanks for watching.
