    Pea, I'm a believer. I had a "paranormal" experience. I also had witnesses who were there ,and they believe as well. When my first wife passed away, I put the urn with her ashes in my living room. I created a small memorial with flowers and pictures. We were all talking about her and how much we missed her. And then, all of a sudden, there was a smell of perfume, HER perfume. As if she were trying to say, "I am with you". It was an emotional experience.

    Soon after my Filipina wife came to New Zealand, we were working in a rural area. The place where we stayed was opposite a field that had ostriches in it. Ostriches make a distinctive noise, "Whi..... Whi..... Whoooooooooo." Hearing them at night frightened the life out of her. It took a long time for me to convince her that this spooky noise was actually the ostriches, and not ghosts!

    My introduction to Philippines superstitions and believes came from watching Old School Mikey Bustos, he made a video where he talked about 5-6 different monsters. Whats funny is that we have a vast collection here in the West. Side note: Mikey Bustos became to commercialized hi production value. His market is not Expat, its Filipinos, domestic and abroad. From Balikbayan Box and older, he had a LOT of great content. He made those mostly by himself.

    It’s interesting the beliefs of the supernatural that I have ran into in the countries I have been in in Asia but not so different as here in the US. There were plenty of old wives tales and superstitions while I was growing up. Two that I experienced in the Philippines were the belief in Aswang which you mentioned and the other I was warned was while taking a bath to be sure to say excuse me while tossing water over my body because of the moot moot. I don’t know if that’s the right spelling but I assumed it was a mythical being like a fairy or troll. These beliefs were very prevalent when I visited my wife’s family in Bicol in the countryside. If you come to where I live you need to keep an eye out for Sasquatch and maybe the drunken expat. Great video and insight on your culture.

    • @TheFilipinaPea

      @@TheFilipinaPea Thats a great subject to delve into , because its really endemic of Pinoy society as a whole as ive seen it... No curiosity.. not thinking why , but just for today.. They dont care where they came from and most cant tell you where they are in the world.. Have you been to the Cultural History Museum in Manila? 20 minute tour at best.. Just not much to see.. Most of the artifacts were found by foreigners and i just dont know why. It goes so much further to Pinoys being quite satisfied to have foreigners do all of the exploration in oil and natural recourses and a whole list of other things. its confusing and ive never been able to discuss it with my own wife.

    • @MrWaterbugdesign
      @MrWaterbugdesign 3 года назад +2

      Yeah but the lack of critical thinking may a skill that allowed humans to evolve. The belief in the supernatural drove people to do many things that helped humans survive. Suicide for example is generally considered bad in many religions which kept millions alive thru history. Believing in witch doctors today seems silly, but it was the foundation of our current medical profession. Belief in witch doctors gave witch doctors resources and power which gave them time to try herbs and other things that might work.
      Today we are at a crossroads.

    • @upyerkiltladdie8297
      @upyerkiltladdie8297 3 года назад +1

    Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
    Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore-

    Hello Pea; Great work, as always. It seems to me that the more “developed “ a culture becomes, the more out of touch it becomes with its own internal intuitions. These intuitions and beliefs sustained the human race for eons before “modern medicine “ came on the scene. The disavowing of anything not readily provable by science has the capacity to be detrimental to our long term survival. If we had access to the whole story behind these beliefs every belief could be logically explained. You continue to surprise us with your insights. Again, great work.

I used to get up in the middle of the night to listen to this piano play all by itself. No one else heard it but me. Over the years I have seen many spirits all over the world. Sometimes you just feel the hackles on the back of your neck rise up. It can be exciting and frightening at the same time. I have never been harmed so I think they are just watching us or longing to be back among us.

We may not agree with these things but the people who do take them seriously. I once made a joke about our ghost that hangs out at Disney's Wilderness Lodge Villas. My Filipina friend took it very to heart. A Filipina worker at the Front Desk that is super professional told me it's "no joke" so I quickly stopped kidding about it. A friend just 6 months ago in Albay got a rash on her arm. I told her it was probably Poison Ivey or Oak. Directed her to Mercury Drug for some calamine lotion. What did she do? She went to her faith healer. Such is life and not just the provinces. Happy Trails PS What is the name of the beast that comes down from the hills and steals the babies?

    As a former paramedic for over 30 years, whenever there was CPR being done, it always felt as if there was that person's spiritual presence looking down over us, as if someone was looking over your shoulder. This was "sensed" only if the death just occurred.

    In my home county, there was a place called Preacher's Point. The story goes that a preacher's son hung himself on a tree after his father refused to let him marry a certain woman with an unsavory reputation. Story goes that it happened in the late 1800s or early 1900s. People said that the area around the tree was haunted by a spirit.
    Based on what we knew, we went out there one Halloween evening. While my friends stayed in the vehicle, I walked alone to find the tree and check it out. On the way, I heard a noise that startled me for a moment. Then I realized it was just an owl. However, I heard my friends scream, the car door open and close, the car starting up, and apparently moving. I ran down the slope and got to the rural road before them. They stopped, and I got in the car. It was fun! 😄😄

    I used to work in a big warehouse that recycled electronic equipment that had a big crusher/ materials separation machine. A former head operator of that machine passed away from stomach cancer years back. It was said that he haunted the crusher machine side of the warehouse. One evening (swing shift), a co-worker and I got finished sharing a very bold, non-worked related story in the crusher machine area. The story involved picking up ladies at a Scorpions concert in the 80's and partying all night. Just we finish the non- work related story, the lights in the area next to us (fabrication area) mysteriously turned on. There was no one in the fabrication area to trigger the sensors to turn the lights on...

    You know Pea, some of my ancestors were Irish, so they believed many similar things. My wife Ling Ling is Higaonon, and her maternal grandmother trained her as a baylan. I have had a number of unusual experiences here in our house in Cagayan de Oro. We have two quartz wall clocks in our house. The one upstairs in our bedroom always works fine, and if it stops, needs a new battery. The one downstairs however stops, restarts all by itself, loses time, stops, and starts again all by itself. We have a gas range that sometimes does not work at breakfast, but then works at lunch and not at dinner. Some days it works all day. Sometimes it takes a day off! Also, on two occasions, in the hour between 2 and 3 AM, I have heard what sounded like a voice saying "Oo! Oo!", once when I woke from sleep in our upstairs bedroom, and once in our CR, with that one accompanied by a vibration in the bathroom door! Recently, around 2:20 AM I woke suddenly, felt "kilig" all over my body, and saw a white light pass under the pillow on the side of the bed where my wife would sleep. She was away at her business and I was alone in bed. Periodically at that time of night I feel a presence with me. Don't laugh but I believe we have a female diwata, what the Higaonon call a "tumanud ku abu", literally "guardian of the ash", and she lives in the water dispenser. The water dispenser shudders often when I go downstairs, or chat online with my wife. Ling Ling says that the diwata is "my invisible wife", and even though I'm not Filipino, being married to a Higaonon woman makes me Higaonon, and that we all have an "abyan", a guardian spirit. I always say "Tabi tabi diwata ko!" when I go to the kitchen, and I have a little thank you ritual where I speak in Bisaya and bow eight times, which i do after each meal, and before bed at night. I always feel safe knowing I have my abyan here! The weirdest thing of all though happened on the nights of 22 and 23 December 2020. Again in that time between 2 and 3 AM, I woke, only to hear a noise like something landed on the roof of the house. Then I heard "Tik! Tik! Tik, tik, tik!". This was certainly not a "tuko", the house gecko, with which I am very familiar. Speaking to my neighbors on New Year's Eve, I found out that the young lady two doors up the street from our house had given birth to a baby just a couple of days after I heard the tik-tik. Sos pastilan gyud! That is the only time I have heard the tik-tik. My wife Ling Ling said she has heard the tik-tik and the wak-wak at night before as well, though not here at our house. I did not see the tik-tik, nor have I seen my abyan. I just know she is here with me! Also, I really enjoyed the interviews on this video, and I could understand your questions and the replies of the people in Bisaya!
