I have respect for this company. Selling beautiful inexpensive leather , decent prices for the average person who does not want to spend money on luxury. I just love the simplistic design and craft. Bravo to this Company.
I found Portland Leather without social media influence. I bought my first bag and then immediately bought a mystery box as soon as I opened my first shipment. No, they aren't super fancy, but they are unique, classic, and provide variety. I don't get mad or feel guilty if it gets banged around, unlike with my LV.
I have a few PL bags and have never been disappointed in the items I have purchased. Love your channel by the way. I’m so glad you do these type of videos.
I watch your reviews with great interest. I noticed that you were satisfied with Coach products and their prices. I am requesting you to kindly review the Coach outlets products.
I'm torn between the fact that they're made in Mexico, and that Portland leather uses a deceiving logo saying "hand-made" which one would assume Portland. Being Mexican here in Southern CA, I can find a ton of deals on something similar for about 1/3 to 1/2 the price. That said, their customer service, warranty, ease of ordering might make it worthwhile for the premium price tag.
Yes. I find a lot of people think they are still made in Portland. They used to be but if he hadn't moved everything to Mexico during our shut down in 2020, he'd be out of business.
Where does it say it’s not handmade?? This video didn’t say that and their site certainly says otherwise. And what difference does it make if it was made in Mexico?? Why does it have to be made in Portland to be “handmade”?? That’s just absurd. Wherever leather goods are made, there are always good and bad manufacturing ateliers. Y’all here are talking without knowing anything and just assuming a lot, which is weird cause the actual expert in this video didn’t give a bad review to these items.
If you're a person who prefers simple, no fuss handbags or wallets but in leather than this is the brand for you. If it fits your personal style and character, go for it.
I will say, I love them depending on the leather used. I have a video showing a tote in the Sedona color that wore absolutely horribly after using just a few times. Their response to me was “take it to a cobbler.” Now I’d definitely think twice before purchasing more PLG.
I bought a couple of their Almost Perfect bags and really like them. I own some Kate Spade and Coach bags, but I like having a bag that feels and smells like leather. Thanks for doing these videos.
I saw an interview with the owner recently so I get what's he's doing and who his target market is. And he tries to keep costs down by buying leather in huge quantities. He also moved his production warehouse to Mexico instead of Portland where he used to be. Some of the leathers I do like but I do not like the construction. I just don't like raw edges and contrast stitching on some items. The worst leather I got was a berry color which felt very smooth and rubbery. It is good if you want reasonably priced leather bag.
@@k.s.h.2455 Yes, I know. It's another cost cutting thing I don't like. I have the tote backpack and the handle is getting frayed. I have to trim the fuzz off the edges.

I got an "almost perfect" long wallet and was very pleased. Beautiful leather, couldn't figure out why it was considered that but I'm not complaining! Great price
I have purchased two almost perfect bags. The Lola and the Toaster. I love them both and see nothing wrong with them at all. I do however feel the lola may be of a better quality than the toaster ( in cold brew) The Toaster leather feels a little dry. But over all the value for a leather purse- nothing fancy is fantastic.
I enjoy their products. The part where I get confused is the MLM practices they use similar to lularoe. If you want a particular color of bag you have to buy mystery boxes which don’t guarantee the bag style nor the bag color. It just seems like bad business practices to me. Also, the PLG community is borderline a friggin CULT. The online communities are basically Manson followers. But nice products overall. I own several totes.

There is a “type” that loves this kind of thing in most every business. Personally, I don’t like $200 surprises. To each his own. I love the rugged leather PLG offers. I’m not much for lined leathers, I enjoy the character of these bags inside and out. I’m a big fan of their pebbled leather and I’m considering a pair of their loafers as we speak. Not a brand I know except by reviews on YT, Portland Leather Goods it's a brand that didn't reach this side of the pond yet but have to admit that in spite of the simplistic way they work I like some of their designs 😁 Thank you for review!
Thanks for reviewing the Mini Daisy! It's such a cute design, but I think I'll order from their Almost Perfect line. Glad to see that you liked that line!
Great video... appreciate the insight into PLG items! I've purchased quite a few wallets and crossbody bags from PLG over the last couple of years. I've been a repeat buyer because I was pleased with the quality and feel of the leather, plus I like their look. My favorite design has been the Luna, which is a small bag with a unique triangular shape. Because it also has a flat bottom with some kind of stiffened panel inside to maintain that shape, I would say it's one of their more complex designs. Unfortunately, I've heard that it's being discontinued... perhaps those two facts are related?
Perhaps I am the only one who has bought a bag, but I haven’t enjoyed it much. I bought it for $80 (Sale Price). However, the bag stains everything inside, and the pocket is off-center. Although I enjoy a minimalistic design, I wouldn't buy another product from that brand.
Can you lead us a product that has complexity and refined work? Love your content btw, very useful and educational for a beginner leather worker like myself
I' not overly impressed with PLG and their scarcity game. I do have 2 passport covers I use as journal covers, a journal cover and a tag. They are nice and thick, smell good and are sturdy. However the stitching is pretty meh. I also hate their totes have a seam on the bottom.
My experience is that they buy leather goods from other companies and ship it under their name. From what I can see by what I was sent, Portland Leather Goods does not make any of their own products. Also, beware that if footwear does not fit, then you still get stuck with the return shipping charge.
Yay first! 🎉 Thank you so much for doing a PLG review! I've been so curious about your findings with this brand since I already own two of their bags. I am curious regarding the blue card holder if you think that the plastic feel has to do with the color of the leather/dye?

Really slow shipping and some of the worst customer service - the rep tried to gaslight me that my bag had actually been shipped, and sent me fake FedEx links. Yeah, no, Molly.
PL design is horrific. After living in Portland for 6 years I can say their design is so triggering to me. Glad to be out of the PNW. Thanks for the review!
Should Kentucky Fried Chicken change their name to Fried Chicken because their company grew beyond Kentucky? Should 3M change from Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing to China Mining and Manufacturing since most their goods are made in China? why trash talk Etsy artisan!? Not having a fancy studio don't equate bad quality or been a scammer /beginner artisan. Plenty of people there are talented it not all resellers/beginners. Loss respect what a shady remark
You may wish to notice that Tanner stated that he started on Etsy too. The Etsy qualities of PLG bags refers to the fact that all of their bags until recently were basically Tandy leather patterns that any home leather crafter can make
The leather is nice but the seams are wonky and no craftsmanship whatsoever. I do love some of their colors and sometimes they offer few on preorder. It is definitely reasonably priced compared to other Indie brands and etsy makers. The most annoying thing is their bst groups which are downright annoying and too much drama and politics and the markup and mmaos are ridiculous. It’s definitely like a cult behavior and pure play of FOMO.
I really love the leather that PLG uses, but I dislike the bags themselves. I personally find that they cross the line from "minimal" to unfinished. The mystery boxes also seem unethical to me. Wasteful and encourages gambling-adjacent behavior and overspending. I hope they'll start selling the leathers to other manufacturers. They seem to know leather very well, and the bare minimum on what to do with it.
Agree. I do not like mystery boxes because for me it is wasteful to buy things just for the sake of buying that I may not even like. I heard the owner explain how he came up with the idea and businesswise for him, it's genius. Instead of wasting any scrap leather after cutting, he uses the leftovers to make many other small goods to put together in mystery boxes. And then includes a bag that may be a sample of a new hide or color. That way he has no waste. And he has a degree in marketing. He's not a handbag designer or leather crafter. And with his sales, he creates that Fear Of Missing Out. He will be coming our with leather jackets by the end of the year too.
