That is the faith of a true Muslim.
Muslim means the surrender to the will of God the almighty.
When the eartquake hit, the imam read Surah Al Baqarah 255 and repeated the first line to praise Allah.
"Allah! There is no god worthy of worship except Him, the Ever-Living, All-Sustaining".

When the Imam finished reciting surah Al Fatihah, that's when the earthquake started to shake, the Imam read out what surah he had to recite, namely surah Al Baqarah 255, which we know as Ayat Qursy. The greatest verse in the Qur'an.
Ayat ul qursi has such powerfull verses it can benefit you in two ways in case of a disaster either that disaster gets stopped by its words or you won't be harmed.

"Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great." 😊
