Only Tom Waits would have the guts to do this in front of a paying audience ! Pushing boundaries

This is 1981, at the Montreal Jazz Festival....it is from the soundtrack to One from the Heart. On the soundtrack, there is a montage of two instrumental pieces, Tango and Circus Girl, they run the pieces together. This is a live version of Tango.
There is nobody quite like Tom, and I feel fortunate to have been alive to experience his 50 years of subtle genius.

The piano was quietly retired after this show and now lives peacefully in a home for the highly strung. She sometimes talks about the experience but only after a couple of beers and a joint. Do take care though, the nurses will throw you out if they catch you.

This is my favorite video to show my nieces and nephews come the holidays when we're shaking the dust on the grandparent's vibrobox and people complain "that's not how you play". Bullshit. That's exactly how you play - maybe with some pattern and idea, but they already have the technique down perfectly. It's my favorite thing.

I think this show is where Tom also plays kettle drums....amazingly, all to Pasties and a G-String. Why he never touched them again, after showing such mastery, I'll never know. How about that bass? I miss that sound in his later albums...the forward sound of the bass.
