I was deeply sadden to hear about the passing of Jim Perry on Friday. But I just want to say thanks for the memories of Card Sharks and Sale of the Century!!!
A class act. Headline Hunters, Definition and Eye Bet in Canada; Card Sharks and Sale of the Century in the United States. James Edward Perry is truly missed.
I loved this version of Card Sharks! Don't get me wrong, Bob Eubanks was a good host on the CBS version, and the addition of winning a car was a good idea, but sometimes it's best not to try to duplicate the original.
The theme song for Card Sharks was composed by Edward Woodley “Edd” Kalehoff and was previously used for the short-lived Double Dare, which aired on CBS during the 1976-77 season.
It got shuffled around to a 11am/noon time slot, since The David Letterman Show took its spot. It faced competition from other programs on those slots.
Yes, along with Wheel of Fortune. Unfortunately, High Rollers and Hollywood Squares did not get that reprieve. Also, because WoF was originally canceled, it cost them the services of Charlie O'Donnell, who secured a new job upon the show's original cancelation.
On October 23rd 1981 after 864 episodes, NBC sadly axes Jim Perry's version of "Card Sharks". Replacing it Monday morning with Alex Trebek's "Battlestars". "Password Plus" moved to 12Noon.
Both CS78 and CS86 began during the term of one president (Carter for CS78, Reagan - 2nd term for CS86) and ended during the first year of another (Reagan - 1st term for CS78, G.H.W. Bush for CS86).
It got shuffled into a 11am/noon time slot, so The David Letterman Show can have the 10am slot, which it originally had. It lost out to other shows in that shuffled slot.
This by the way was the last show of the series NBC originally aired for Card Sharks on NBC, as it aired on October 23, 1981. Host Jim Perry had quite a 3 and a half year run on the program, and Jokers were never in the decks of cards. He later went on to host $ale of the Century for a six and a quarter year run from 1983 to 1989 on NBC, as he returned to do another game show. R.I.P. Jim Perry you are greatly missed.
Starting next Monday on Buzzr Double Dare replaces Child's Play weekdays at 8 AM and 2 PM. Sale Of The Century replaces Blockbusters weekdays at 9 AM and 3 PM. Let's Make A Deal replaces Family Feud weekdays at 11 AM and 5 PM.
@@chrisc9279 I think the show was not getting ratings as it was up against some other shows on other networks. Not 100% on this. Apparently it did have a lot of support as they revived the series 5 years later.

The way Jim handled this last episode was typical of him -- total class. Thanks for giving us much joy, Jim. You are missed.
Well said, wkyken! He sure had loads of swagger, and he always exhibited it in ever game he's ever hosted!
What a classy guy he was. RIP Mr Perry

What a great show. Jim Perry was a great choice as host.
...Would be nice if ABC could revive Card Sharks for the Sunday Fun & Games block (without the bad 2001 format).
Or if ABC revived American Gladiators (with its best known format) and aired it on Monday Nights right after 🕺 with the ✨!
I agree with you.
Loyalmoonie yes with Clinton Kelly as host. no celebrity dealers real women dealers
I've been hearing rumours of a revival for ABC, but no word on a host yet.
@@danalong1237 ABC, in fact, does have a "Card Sharks" reboot happening tonight and every Wednesday night, starting at 9 p.m. I will be watching.
Jim Perry just passed last evening at 82 years of age; he leaves behind his wife(June) of 56 years, two children, and three grandchildren. RIP.

Wasn't "Card Sharks" going to get cancelled in the late summer of 1980, but got a reprieve from NBC, allowing it to run for another year or so?
