    How wonderful to find a current interview from Goldman! Are there any others out there? I'd love to hear him reflect on his book on the decline of western civilization he wrote 10 years ago, China's absolute hysteria over covid, the loss of the independent mainstream press in America and what that portends??

      This is his third Westminster talk. His other two are 'You Will be Assimilated' and 'Will China Overtake the U.S. As the World's Leading Superpower?'

      Hello Dolly - I too am grateful to Westminster for presenting David Goldman. IMHO, this talk by him was a good restatement of his great thesis on the effect of faith on demographics, and the effect of that on national strength. He also touched on the current state of the press. Do you follow his twitter?

    I’m wondering what is meant by the protestant movement of self-identification mentioned in this discussion. Probably it is the hyper-individualism in American culture and the resulting self-identifying emphasis on gender, race, sexuality, etc.

    The relation between fertility and religious practice is a weak one. France is very secularized (the first one historically to do so actually) and has the highest fertility rate. Poland is very religious (three quarter of the population identifies as Catholic) but has a TFR of 1.4. Eric Kaufmann showed however that in France religious women have higher fertility. France shows that you can have relatively high fertility rates without a religious strata but a culture is needed where having two children is the norm for a large majority of families. This also needs a good healthcare, a good work-life balance and where women (who now in the developed world are more numerous having high ed diplomas) can work and have children. Not easy but that's the only way for our collective survival. This topic is so under-discussed in developed countries it's uncomfortable. The only work of fiction I read that perfectly relates to our current state is Children of Men written by P. D. James' in 1992.

      If one is going to discuss french fertility and religion/culture, the question of differences between ethnic/cultural European French and those who are part of Muslim culture should be acknowledged.

      @@marchess286 This is always mentioned but the basic fact is still here: in all advanced countries, immigrant fertility alignes itself with the majority after one generation. Look it up, INED and INSEE.

      @marchess286 Год назад

      @@etbadaboum - yes, I have heard about that trend. But, I think continuing host country cultural doubt and decline, continued immigration and non assimilation would mitigate that effect.

      @@marchess286 There's no sign of it disappearing. Look at all OECD countries.

    People in USA can't afford children. Belgium is an example of robust fertility. The secret there is remarkable child care basically at no cost from infant age til school age. Hello. No brainer.

      If we cannot take care of the kids we do not have a future, and politision do not yt realise that they are only here for a short time.
