    Hello, what is the difference between a SEAM and a STITCH LINE? I am learning English and I am confused

    • @UweXY
      @UweXY  3 года назад

      StitchLine in this particular case is part of the brand name “US StitchLine” for the machine. The term “stitch line” describes any line formed by stitches. The term “seam” describes the line or path where two pieces of material are joined. In sewing, every seam has a stitch line, but not every stitch line forms a seam. When a stitch line joins two pieces of material, it forms a seam. Very often a seam is made with a single stitch line, and then the two terms are interchangeable and can describe the same thing. Sometimes a single seam is reinforced with multiple stitch lines to make it stronger. When altering clothing to make it fit better, you either “take in a seam” (make it smaller) or “let out a seam” (make it bigger) by removing the existing stitches and then sewing a new stitch line along a different path to change the seam. A stitch line may also be just decorative and not functional, like in embroidery where your spell out a word or make a flower with a stitch line. In that case you have a stitch line but no seam. I hope this helps.
