As a dedicated fem roe player, the dimensions make glam a struggle. She is somehow wide and flat at the same time. Gear also scales in all directions, so by the time a thigh-high boot fits my 7+ ft tall lady, the leather looks 3 inches thick. But I still love being the tallest person in the crowd so we will fight on!
Interstingly, i had the same issue with my highlander female hyur as a lot of pants, boots or skirt just doesnt look great on my tall character, hope they can give more option for my character.
Honestly I would probably play a Hrothgar if they weren't so limited in customisation. There are so little face options and hair option combos that all Hrothgar end up looking the same. Also the fact that the colour options with both their fur and hair are really strange, with the hair colours not matching any of the other races when the same colour is selected. I really hope for a complete overhall in FFXIV's character customisation since honestly at this point it feels a bit out dated.
Male Roegadyn enjoyer here since the first day I played. Never used my fantasia (I still have the free one). When I play MMO's I was always drawn to the biggest races or the smallest one. If someone was to force me to fantasia I'd pick a Lalafell or a Hrothgar.
FemRoe here who finished endwalker, they are just peak Aestethic. Always felt a bit of a rare creature, and lots of people comes at you with a "step on me mommy", but I'm not that bothered, I find it hilarious x'D
while i have never had anyone say "step on me mommy" (Note I have only been playing on and off for about 6 months) I did have a lala in full plate armor run by me and go "Hi Shehulk." Got a good laugh out of me.
I play a tiny little miqo lad. Never been into the whole 'step on me' when I met a femroe as much as 'whoa, you are tall' and some of them being absolute beautiful characters. It is always fun to run into one and see my short little dude having to crane his neck to look up at her. XD Same with the female elezen. Soon to add femhroth to the list as well.
I always feel like some endagered species as a female Duskwight. Female Elezen are rare enough, but somehow everyone shuns the cave dwellers especially for some reason.
As a fellow female Duskwight since ARR, I completely agree. Rarely see others in any high end content. I have come to accept my place in the raid group as the outlier among the party of cat girls, au'ra, and viera, One day, there will be more!
I actually used to be a lalafell but at some point during the game people started petting me and calling me adorable afterwards i became the dragon race and didn't really like the horns i chose and eventually i started over with a friend thinking it be fun now I'm the rabbit race female version and have been having fun
The attention you get as a lalafell and other lalafells just coming up to you is exactly why I switched from lalafell That reason and I didn't like the way gear looked on Lala's compared to taller races
This was kind of my experience 😅 I started as fem Aura, i was hit on alot and even harassed . Then switch to fem lala although I was no longer treated either of the above, people would constantly approach me and try to talk to me. It was weird at first but then you get use to it and is usually friendly behavior so I stayed as such for a long time until I decided to switch to fem thighlander, ngl I loved her. Was alot more comfortable because people no longer approach me or harrased me and once in a while got complimented so yeah
I started as a lalafell because I came over from wow where I exclusive played short races like goblins and gnomes. So I was ready to be in the least played race. But to my surprise people actually play lalafell here a good bit, and not only that the race is treated as more than just a joke by players and devs. It was refreshing to see. I did eventually use that free fantasia they gave us to change from a plainsfolk to a dunesfolk lala. No regrets, I love my dead pupil-less eyes
Best thing about being a Lala is the magnet effect. AFK for a bit while you go make dinner or make a quick trip to the store, come back and theres 15 other lalas surrounding you emoting
In 2014 I started as a female Roegadyn (Lala in the alpha and beta) and to this day have never used a fantasia to change her race, though I might've used the fantasia that came with the game to change some of her features but it's been forever so I really can't recall.
My current character started as a Viera male, surprising considering I rarely play male races on MMOs. I played with him all through ARR, HW and StB. After finishing Stormblood I really felt the itch of going back to play a female character and I always wanted to try to play as a femroe, so I fanta to femroe. She accompanied me through all post-StB and Shadowbringers, I had a lot of fun with her, experimented gposing and looking for nice glams for her. At the end of ShB I started to feel I wanted to try something "new" so I fanta'd to a Hyur "middie" and I kinda instantly regretted it cuz I fanta right at the last 5.0 quest and I felt that I betrayed my femroe girl, like she accompanied me through all post-StB and the most important parts ot ShB and at the very end I ditched her. Still I felt I wanted to give her a chance so I decided that I would finish 6.0 before doing a fanta and thats what I did. I finished 6.0 with my middie, I grew fond of her but still I wasn't "feeling" it you know, so by that time I felt like I should go back to being a femroe but that I should try a Hellsguard femroe but while I was doing race selection I was like "mm... how about an Elezen lady"? Oh boy. I started playing a bit with character customization until I got a beautiful Elezen lady and it was instant love at first sight and I inmediately knew she was the one, she was my WoL. All the glams I like look beautiful on her and the thought of fanta to something else completely vanished. I love my long-eared lady, love her animations, her voice, everything. She's the WoL I was looking for and to think that playing with an Elezen never crossed my mind and I ended up finding my perfect lady almost by accident. I wish more people appreciated Elezen ladies more. I feel like the "long neck" or "giraffe" memes kinda scare people away from trying them. For example though femroes aren't popular, it seems the community overall like and appreciate femroes, there is no bad joke/meme about them, but I've seen a lot of people branding Elezen ladies as ugly and personally I don't think thats fair. Because of this it brings joy and pride to my heart when I'm running around doing something on a city or while doing some roulette and someone randomly says that they really like how she looks or how good the glam I'm wearing fits her.
I tried the game on a few different races, a Highlander Hyur female, an Aura female and a Miqo'te female, but only dabbled in it. When i got back into the game, my friend joined, so I made a new character so I could start playing with him from the beginning after being away for a few years. I made a male miqo'te based on a OC I've had for a long time, and somehow ended up playing him more than any of the other characters I had. He's the one who's taken me clean through EW, and I can't ever imagine changing him into anything else. Y'xavi became my WoL and by EW, he started developing a back story. I have only ever used a fantasia on him once for some minor adjustments to skin tone, patron deity and nameday, and I don't think I'd ever change him aside for maybe temporarily for April Fools. He is who he is, and at this point, making him anything else wouldn't be the same character anymore.
I have a fantasia addiction and will change my race every couple months. I actually just relapsed last night and tried my hand at a female elezen. I tried my best at creating something I was content with and immediately regretted it. The neck length, the running animation, the way the lighting does their faces dirty, their voices, it's all bad or at least not for me. I had been male viera for a few months and loved it, but the lack of hats eventually got to me. Thank goodness they give you a 60-minute grace period to re-edit your character. I changed to a gorgeous femroe and fell in love with her. Gonna finish up dawntrail with her. They really need to fix the hrothgars because I wanna try them down the line.
I've been playin my Male Roe White Mage since I started, and I still love him! I tried to Fantasia once, and swapped back after only a few days lol. Been with him since around Heavensward was first coming out
First character I made was a Roe Female back in 2016, and I've never wanted to change. I think all the gear looks great on my character and I always get a ton of attention and praise for my character. I will say tho that it took a long time of tweaking my character to get her looking right and she looks more like a really tall buff human than any other Roe female I've seen.
I was actually close to picking hrothgar when i started the game but ended up playing male roe. I really enjoy towering over everyone, but it does come with the drawback of some glams looking terrible on him. I hope to contribute to the endgame number soon lol.
I play a tiny little miqo male, and believe it or not, there are some glams I think look better on a male roe then do on my miqo boy. The male miqo are kind of larger in the chest, but have shorter shoulders than a lot of the other races and have a kind of pinched in waist. I always thought overly thick plate mail looked strange on him, making his upper body look too heavy and bulky. But those same glams looked really good on the Hroth and roe males with their over all larger, more muscular builds.
also take into account that middies and highlanders are lumped in together despite being more different than every other clans, theres not very many highlander girls around tbh
I hope the census updates sometime soon - the most recent data on there is from January 2022, over a year and a half ago now. Not to mention, this doesn't take in the entire Dynamis DC into account - and I feel like with all the newer players since Jan 2022 in general, certain numbers have to be higher now. For example, bunboys had only been out for about six months at the time this data was pulled. I swear there have to be more by now.
The website should separate the hyur clans because they're kind of like different races and I think my favorite race highlander would've been on this list if it was separated
I actually had a fantasia phase where I tried out different races, but I found myself settling on Hrothgar in the end. Gotta stick with what feels right.
I initially made a male roe to parody Linkara but after some time, realizing i’d be investing a lot of tim into the game, I created a new character and made it a femroe based on an oc of mine.
I actually surprised myself that I made a bun boi as my wol, I haven't used my free fantasia. ig it was bc I wanted a wol that looked cute and had a very sunny smile, ahhh The smiles of male viera are so cute. but if they weren't there, most likely I would have picked a female elezen bc I always choose elves in mmos
After ten years playing FFXIV, I must agree with your findings. I noticed a change in the last 4 years, which naturally coincided with the introduction of the Viera and Hrotgar race. Quickly, the scenery in Limsa boasted even more variety that usual. A good thing in my opinion. For myself, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I used Fantasia on my main, and my two ALTs. 😆 Elezen male, Miqo’te male and female, female Reogadyn and female Au Ra. Proportions, height and gait, are the main reasons behind my aesthetic choices. 😊 PS: Thanks for reminding me FFXIV Census exists lol
I was going to make a Dante lookalike when I started playing FF14. The I saw the M'qote and all I could think about was how many laughs I had with the car girl memes....so I just had created a cat girl. 😄
Can’t say that I’m too surprised tbh. I do think about what I see whenever I’m in Radz too. I wonder what it looks like for raiders specifically. Prob similar but I feel like I see more hrothgar in Radz than anywhere else tbh. Also the creator point was funny haha I feel even though I’m a midlander, it would be fun to see more bun bois tbh
I started playing back in patch 2.45. I tried a female roe because I really wanted a character that looked like Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn but I couldn’t get it so I I tried elezen female. I liked her but my spouse said the elezen look stretched out. I also played dnd back in the day for many years but only base races of human, elf, dwarf, half-elf, and halfling were ever allowed and I got bored of making characters like that so I settled on miqo’te for something different. When heavensward came out I fantasia’s into a au ra female because when I played dnd in the past I always wanted to play a half-dragon and they looked like them. I tried changing her to a a viera and even tried a au ra with a different face, but they just felt wrong. I eventually went back to the first au ra I made right after heavensward release. Have been her for a few years now.
Interseting that all of these all of these races have "issues" that SE just doesn't seem to care to fix. Elezen: I know people complain about the long necks, but I think the actual issue is the tiny heads atop them. If they just gave us a head size slider then players that wanted to could make the heads a bit bigger. The other issue is the running animations as well as some other emotes are very stiff. Viera: I actually feel like these seem super common, but likely the reason they're here is because they're newer, but also because they have few options for hats. Should be an easy fix... Hrothgar: Not enough customization options with weird restrictions like hair being restricted to certain faces types and horns only being an option for 1 (or 2) faces. Like, why not open that up!? Also, lack of hats again. Roe: Apart from some awkward and goofy animations, I think the only reason these peeps aren't that popular is because of glamour issues. On the males, some stuff looks stretched out and pixelated. I personally haven't found this to be that big of an issues, but what does bother me (and the same issue is with the women) is that arms/wrists of clothes seem blown up for some reason. For the men, I kind of get it, they have large wrists. But for the women, why does every outfit it I put on them have blow up arms/wrists?
While I wanted to be one of the taller races. I settled on female Highlander because their bodies aren't exaggerated like Roes who are built like a refrigerator. Viera is out of the question because I like to helms and hats. Elezens while I see as beautiful like Viera but are too posh for my taste and the feel more stiff when you move around but that just me.
My main character, ever since I began playing back in ARR is a female Roe. I'm even in a linkshell for "giantesses." That said, I guess I'm not an endgame player as I got to the end of Endwalker and then just.... stopped playing before the final dungeon and trial, so I dn't have the mount or minion. I've got about half the classes to 90 from running roulettes and whatnot, but... just never actually finished the story. I hadn't been enjoying the Endwalker dungeons, and I've never liked the 8-man trials, so knowing I was looking forward to 2 of those back to back... I figured I'd get around to it eventually, but then just... didn't. And then i stopped logging in, and then I canceled the sub... but I still plan to come back for Dawntrail. Until then....

I really like being a female hyur They're simple and have 0 cons for glams With other races glam can look awkward or unfitting but with hyur everything fits nicely For example if your character has a tail and is wearing a cape of any sort your tail clips through the cape and can look odd
Free trial player here also a Male roe player and I plan to fantasia to Hrothgar when I get the chance to get the game and play shadowbringers im about to finish Post-Heavensward (just less than 20 quests left) and I love my roe very much I feel like I'm a gentle giant which I love (also love the fuck outta lalafell I pat every one I see unless they say no 😂) and I also like being the tallest most of the time 😂😂 love the game zooming through it but I'm understanding the story and enjoying it as much as I love lalafells (which is alot 😂😂) 😊❤ cool video! I heard that most of Aymeric, Estinien or even Fourchenault glamour cosplay kinda lament about is some little parts (either it's hair or face) off it makes the whole so odd. At one side, i can understand that the option is kinda limited(?) and more generic design. But also, it feels like "meh" nothing special about Elezen face (debatable) compare to other races. At one day, I scoffed at myself thinking about "if there any "cross" races such as Garlean (like Lucia, Solus, Nael, Zenos etc) and say Hilda. Together with the option to make your WoL into teen (13-17 years old) rather than mature adult, it would make the server explode even more. But there is no way CBU3 gonna add them. Even if it comes to their mind, they would bring it in the end expansion of next arc long after female Hrothgar." The only thing i can do is crossing my finger.
And with Elezen women, theyre adorable but Ysayle isnt all THAT pretty, she looks slightly off and shes far down the list for most people's waifus. We love her as a character, not necessarily for her looks. Esp not compared to the likes of Hilda, Yshtola, or Krile
It doesn't really work with most of the other races as well, but my male miqo actually started out the game as sixteen, and before I learned the real supposed time frame of the game, was around 21 or so in my head canon when he completed EW. It helps that some of the facial features you can choose are a bit younger looking. It was part of the reason I chose a male miqo over a male hyur based on an OC I had, because said OC was a bit younger looking, and I just could not work out a male Hyur that worked.
I was a Thighlander for a while, ngl I loved her ❤ she looked cool tall strong with some softness to her regardless of the race taking a more masculine approach stereotype. I chose that race after being a lala for a long time and an au ra for a short time, it gave me a break from dealing with people, friendly or otherwise and I could focus on the game/story more. I am a bunny now, I do miss my thighlander a bit but fem bunnies make up for her with their long legs, theres a lot of glam that look good on bunnies because of this. I was thinking of going Elezan but glad I went bunny ❤ we will see how long I last before I decide to try another race, may be even give fem Hroth a try to celebrate Dawntrail and race release
Femroe for life here (since 2.2!). Though I did have brief forays as a male Roe, Highlander male, and Bunny Woman. I do have my Femgar fantasia picked out and give it a go for a couple weeks after I'm done with the DT story, but like always I'm going back to my Femroe, I get a lot of compliments on mine and glams, it does take a lot of work though! Gotta think like a Domi-Mommi! I blame the limited choices for making a decent looking Femroe, there is one, maybe two faces that need to be put in the bin and replaced, you know which ones Yoshi-P!
We just need more customization at the end of the day. So the less popular races would be played more... Maybe add an option for neck lenght for Elezen, just sayin'.
First character I made was a Roe female, she's still my main. the problem is that it's very hard to make an attractive Roe female. Very few of the skin tones are "natural" looking. Most people want a "white" roe female, and the white skin tones are TERRIBLE, so are the green skin tones. To make an attractive Roe female you have to choose a darker skin tone, something from say caramel to mocha. If you choose the right skin tone (none of them are prefect, but a darker mocha comes pretty close) with that as the base the options are bad... I would say that the features are not very "feminine" on many of the pre-sets but there is at least one feminine option for each feature and you can create an attractive Roe female if you are willing to take the time. I would like to think that my character is attractive in the amazon milf sense. (Madison Myrelle Midgardsormr) That is the problem with Roe though, it's hard to create an attractive Roe fem whereas it's easy to create an attractive say Cat Girl or Aura. I do love playing a Roe female specifically because it is hard to make a good looking one, it makes them very rare, Madison always stands out in a crowd.
When ShB started a LOT of people actually glamored to Hroth, but the customization limitations and lack of headgear just turned a lot of them off, and those who stuck with them like me became a minority.
I made a Male Miqo because ear wiggle. No, but seriously. I made mine a Male Cat because that's what I figured the ideal "adventurer" race was. The current main glam i have on him is Pagos Bandana, Raptorskin Shirt, Punching Gloves, Nezha Lord Slops, and Street High Tops. It really brings out the "guy that lives life to the fullest" feel i wanted for the character.
Strted as female Miqote in 2011, then ARR came out and went female Midlander till HW, then back to Miqote till ShB and at some point went female Lala, then my old Glams looked like i was wearing a diaper so i quickly went Female Aura and been that ever since. Now i also made a new Char on another data center where i started as female Lala and with that made Glams that fit the character much easier, and been playing as that char for a few years. I tried several male versions of the same races, but male Aura run funny, male Miqote are over bred, Male Lalas i have associated with, how to put this, non serious aka jokers/pranksters (not all). The other male races just never made it on my radar. Then when i hink about it, endgame is all about Glam ( and Savages) so that didctates my race mostly.
I think the reason why we have so many male Hyur among all characters is that's the default that people who make bots use. And bots make up a surprising amount of the population that people aren't aware of since they go out of their way to disappear into the backdrop.
To be honest, if bunboys didn't come to be, I would have continued suffering from fantasia addiction by jumping from catboy to femroe, back and forth. I am bunboy and... I can't tell you how liberating is it NOT to feel the need to fantasia. At least, that feeling has dropped by ~95%. I still have urges to fantasia but that's mostly because I want to see my femroe and catboy version of my current character again ;-;. I miss them, they were both pretty and cute. I will definitelly fantasia when hrothgals come out because I am very curious to see. But chance is that maybe after 1 MSQ finish, I will fantasia back to bunboy and do it again xD I have made an elezen alt but with a specific style in mind. I managed to make 'it' only with it and I am happy. If there were a statistics of which race face is used the least, I guess I would win for viera (Face4) and for my elezen alt as well (old man face 4).... heck, even the male Au Ra Face4 is goddang handsome... Or maybe it's just the horns.
@@Setulge This is why I got 6 characters. Main completed entire story, 2 of them at start of EW and other 3 are going through ARR. Whenever the urge to play X race/preset, I just hop on one of my alt chars for a while, though my main is atm same race as one of the alts, but different clan and different look. I got 2 slots left for same server shenanigans and one of them is reserved for future femHroth.
Used to be a male roe, then turned into a hroth, but now I kind of want to be both! Miss the tallness and absolute mass that is a roe, but I do like the furriness of hroth and now idk which one I feel more of
I play male Roe. Best side effect of playing Male Roe I've found, is I've gotten one creepy tell in 2,500 hours. I'm sure we're probably packing down there, but I'm pretty sure everyone's first choice is flicking a male Mi'qote's adorable ears, and they are legion.
I started as female Au Ra, changed to Male Miqo'te after two weeks and stayed until finally male Viera were introduced to the game and will never look back. Male Viera Supremacy. We for sure can't wear hats, but in all honesty we look so good we don't need it. ps: also notice a lot of people who I raid with and are in PF's (Savage and ults) are male or female vieras. So they're used by a lot of endgame players.
I played as a Miqo'te for a short period but this was during the trial. I could not afford a sub back then. After I bought FFXIV sense everyone said it was a great time to join with Shadowbringers brand new, I started a Hrothgar.
I was a male roe from the start right up until after I put on my dragoon class set. Too. Fraking. Wide. I looked ridiculous next to Estinien. Went Femroe and haven't looked back since.
i don't play tall races in ffxiv because they are all... tall. it feels weird to me, i prefer to be small. i love my lalafell. if there were more height options for all races i'd surely try out elezen or femroe.
Your experience with Viera seems to me fairly ... i dont want to say confirmation bias, but youre looking for them. Theyre awfully rare, even among content creators and endgame characters, especially to the Plain Jane Au ra girls like me
Ngl I play an Elezen male because so many people talked about how ugly they are so I had to show Elezen’s some love, especially since my fav fantasy race to play as in most rpgs are Elves. They can be very pretty if you mess around enough with the face. I guess the awkward body proportions make them less appealing but it makes me happy they’re not just some humans with elf ears slapped on.
I love my Elezen guy and will never fantasia into anything else. The long neck (or rather, small head) never bothered me and neither did the stiff running animation - I think the rest are just elegant and sometimes perhaps a touch pompous, which fits them well. I think the female midlander and male Au Ra runs are much worse to look at, but you get used to it either way
I'm a player who values character aesthetics above all. I played a female duskwight for a long time and loved her to bits, but the running animation plus awkward proportions in portrait mode were significant dealbreakers for me. I did experiment with every race/gender combo even as a player who would normally play female characters exclusively, but the usual problems still boiled down to how the portraits looked. I eventually settled for a Xaela Au Ra, and now a Rava Viera, but I can't lie that I do feel a bit jealous whenever I go to Limsa and look at the locals.
a important factor that i assume plays into the all characters stats is bots. They are banning 10 000+ bots every week acording to their lodestone weekly update. These bots ofc dont own any expansions since their only purpose is to shout their ads. They are also often lalafells just so its harder to click on them and report them, their names are jibbrish and unless you clock on them and open up their insepect you wont remember their name long enough to type it out in a report.
I've been male elezen till endwalker then tried male viera for the msq then went back to male elezen. I love my tall socially awkward horrible emote giraffe necked man.
I main Femroe, and it makes me sad to see that they are the least played race/gender combo at only 19,000! I'm glad I'm doing my part to show Femroe's some love. And my 1 alt is a Hrothgar. Detention i go then! But all real talk here, i think they released bun boys to early. They just need to fix the issues for them before they released the new race combo options...but put "limited" resources towards unlocking gender locked gear. I do understand that people love the gear unlocking from genders, 100%. Its just these issues has been a thing for over 4 years now, its a bit silly to have to continue to wait and play the whole what can i wear and can't wear game.
I play a male Miqo'te. But I'm a Keeper Male. And on top of that, i made my keeper Black and max height.... So any chocolate Miqos out there, raise your hands.
People don’t play them because the customisation is limited and some of them just have awful face and skeleton tbh, like female elezen is just straight up having a grandma face with a very bulky body which is just cursed If they release more variety of body types and faces then there will be more people playing them

For whatever reason my server is just filled with the “reject” races of FF XIV. Tons of lalas, Hrothgars and Roes and very few catboys and girls. I’ve always liked my server for that, everyone kind of goes against the norm!!😄
It’s not surprising to see Roe and Hroth are the least played for both men and women characters for Hroth it’s because they’re to bulky and on average most people prefer a slender character or a average frame one as for both Genders on the Roe it’s because well because they’re kind of ugly and it’s really hard to make a good looking one you like looking at and for the male’s they get hit double because again that bulky frame one way to solve the problem for the Hroth would be to add an option that allows you to have a body frame that more resembles Kimahri from FF 10 I think if they did that then people would be more inclined to play as one. As for Roe the only option to get the numbers up would be a complete redesign of the character model entirely sad to say.
I love the male viera their so good looking! I love vieras since FF12 love that game the only bad thing is i want viera's to be able to wear hats then they'll truly be ubstoppabld

As a dedicated fem roe player, the dimensions make glam a struggle. She is somehow wide and flat at the same time. Gear also scales in all directions, so by the time a thigh-high boot fits my 7+ ft tall lady, the leather looks 3 inches thick. But I still love being the tallest person in the crowd so we will fight on!

Interstingly, i had the same issue with my highlander female hyur as a lot of pants, boots or skirt just doesnt look great on my tall character, hope they can give more option for my character.
Honestly I would probably play a Hrothgar if they weren't so limited in customisation. There are so little face options and hair option combos that all Hrothgar end up looking the same. Also the fact that the colour options with both their fur and hair are really strange, with the hair colours not matching any of the other races when the same colour is selected. I really hope for a complete overhall in FFXIV's character customisation since honestly at this point it feels a bit out dated.

Horthgar main problem is how bulky they are and have bad posture.
No hat, no sell. Granted I'll probably not use a lot of hats/helmets still I'd like the option for the occasional job if it looks good.
Male Roegadyn enjoyer here since the first day I played. Never used my fantasia (I still have the free one). When I play MMO's I was always drawn to the biggest races or the smallest one. If someone was to force me to fantasia I'd pick a Lalafell or a Hrothgar.

Always felt a bit of a rare creature, and lots of people comes at you with a "step on me mommy", but I'm not that bothered, I find it hilarious x'D
while i have never had anyone say "step on me mommy" (Note I have only been playing on and off for about 6 months) I did have a lala in full plate armor run by me and go "Hi Shehulk." Got a good laugh out of me.
I play a tiny little miqo lad. Never been into the whole 'step on me' when I met a femroe as much as 'whoa, you are tall' and some of them being absolute beautiful characters. It is always fun to run into one and see my short little dude having to crane his neck to look up at her. XD Same with the female elezen.

I always feel like some endagered species as a female Duskwight. Female Elezen are rare enough, but somehow everyone shuns the cave dwellers especially for some reason.
As a fellow female Duskwight since ARR, I completely agree. Rarely see others in any high end content. I have come to accept my place in the raid group as the outlier among the party of cat girls, au'ra, and viera, One day, there will be more!

Funnily enough, one of my alts is specifically female Duskwight with light grey skin and red eyes. Like Dark Elf from TES.
I actually used to be a lalafell but at some point during the game people started petting me and calling me adorable afterwards i became the dragon race and didn't really like the horns i chose and eventually i started over with a friend thinking it be fun now I'm the rabbit race female version and have been having fun
The attention you get as a lalafell and other lalafells just coming up to you is exactly why I switched from lalafell

@@HyouVizerctrl or Alt + down/up arrow can arrange the camera tilt for you. Then you can regularily drag your camera down or up pr whatever you want
Tired of being called 'adorable' as a lalafell so you switched to au ra. There's no denying, when you fix a problem you don't do it half way.
This was kind of my experience 😅 I started as fem Aura, i was hit on alot and even harassed . Then switch to fem lala although I was no longer treated either of the above, people would constantly approach me and try to talk to me. It was weird at first but then you get use to it and is usually friendly behavior so I stayed as such for a long time until I decided to switch to fem thighlander, ngl I loved her. Was alot more comfortable because people no longer approach me or harrased me and once in a while got complimented so yeah
I started as a lalafell because I came over from wow where I exclusive played short races like goblins and gnomes. So I was ready to be in the least played race. But to my surprise people actually play lalafell here a good bit, and not only that the race is treated as more than just a joke by players and devs. It was refreshing to see.
I did eventually use that free fantasia they gave us to change from a plainsfolk to a dunesfolk lala. No regrets, I love my dead pupil-less eyes
Best thing about being a Lala is the magnet effect. AFK for a bit while you go make dinner or make a quick trip to the store, come back and theres 15 other lalas surrounding you emoting

In 2014 I started as a female Roegadyn (Lala in the alpha and beta) and to this day have never used a fantasia to change her race, though I might've used the fantasia that came with the game to change some of her features but it's been forever so I really can't recall.
My current character started as a Viera male, surprising considering I rarely play male races on MMOs. I played with him all through ARR, HW and StB. After finishing Stormblood I really felt the itch of going back to play a female character and I always wanted to try to play as a femroe, so I fanta to femroe. She accompanied me through all post-StB and Shadowbringers, I had a lot of fun with her, experimented gposing and looking for nice glams for her. At the end of ShB I started to feel I wanted to try something "new" so I fanta'd to a Hyur "middie" and I kinda instantly regretted it cuz I fanta right at the last 5.0 quest and I felt that I betrayed my femroe girl, like she accompanied me through all post-StB and the most important parts ot ShB and at the very end I ditched her. Still I felt I wanted to give her a chance so I decided that I would finish 6.0 before doing a fanta and thats what I did. I finished 6.0 with my middie, I grew fond of her but still I wasn't "feeling" it you know, so by that time I felt like I should go back to being a femroe but that I should try a Hellsguard femroe but while I was doing race selection I was like "mm... how about an Elezen lady"?
Oh boy. I started playing a bit with character customization until I got a beautiful Elezen lady and it was instant love at first sight and I inmediately knew she was the one, she was my WoL. All the glams I like look beautiful on her and the thought of fanta to something else completely vanished. I love my long-eared lady, love her animations, her voice, everything. She's the WoL I was looking for and to think that playing with an Elezen never crossed my mind and I ended up finding my perfect lady almost by accident.
I wish more people appreciated Elezen ladies more. I feel like the "long neck" or "giraffe" memes kinda scare people away from trying them. For example though femroes aren't popular, it seems the community overall like and appreciate femroes, there is no bad joke/meme about them, but I've seen a lot of people branding Elezen ladies as ugly and personally I don't think thats fair. Because of this it brings joy and pride to my heart when I'm running around doing something on a city or while doing some roulette and someone randomly says that they really like how she looks or how good the glam I'm wearing fits her.
I tried the game on a few different races, a Highlander Hyur female, an Aura female and a Miqo'te female, but only dabbled in it. When i got back into the game, my friend joined, so I made a new character so I could start playing with him from the beginning after being away for a few years.
I made a male miqo'te based on a OC I've had for a long time, and somehow ended up playing him more than any of the other characters I had. He's the one who's taken me clean through EW, and I can't ever imagine changing him into anything else. Y'xavi became my WoL and by EW, he started developing a back story. I have only ever used a fantasia on him once for some minor adjustments to skin tone, patron deity and nameday, and I don't think I'd ever change him aside for maybe temporarily for April Fools.
He is who he is, and at this point, making him anything else wouldn't be the same character anymore.
I have a fantasia addiction and will change my race every couple months. I actually just relapsed last night and tried my hand at a female elezen. I tried my best at creating something I was content with and immediately regretted it. The neck length, the running animation, the way the lighting does their faces dirty, their voices, it's all bad or at least not for me. I had been male viera for a few months and loved it, but the lack of hats eventually got to me.
Thank goodness they give you a 60-minute grace period to re-edit your character. I changed to a gorgeous femroe and fell in love with her. Gonna finish up dawntrail with her. They really need to fix the hrothgars because I wanna try them down the line.

I've been playin my Male Roe White Mage since I started, and I still love him! I tried to Fantasia once, and swapped back after only a few days lol. Been with him since around Heavensward was first coming out
First character I made was a Roe Female back in 2016, and I've never wanted to change.
I think all the gear looks great on my character and I always get a ton of attention and praise for my character.
I will say tho that it took a long time of tweaking my character to get her looking right and she looks more like a really tall buff human than any other Roe female I've seen.
I was actually close to picking hrothgar when i started the game but ended up playing male roe. I really enjoy towering over everyone, but it does come with the drawback of some glams looking terrible on him. I hope to contribute to the endgame number soon lol.
I play a tiny little miqo male, and believe it or not, there are some glams I think look better on a male roe then do on my miqo boy. The male miqo are kind of larger in the chest, but have shorter shoulders than a lot of the other races and have a kind of pinched in waist. I always thought overly thick plate mail looked strange on him, making his upper body look too heavy and bulky. But those same glams looked really good on the Hroth and roe males with their over all larger, more muscular builds.
also take into account that middies and highlanders are lumped in together despite being more different than every other clans, theres not very many highlander girls around tbh

I hope the census updates sometime soon - the most recent data on there is from January 2022, over a year and a half ago now. Not to mention, this doesn't take in the entire Dynamis DC into account - and I feel like with all the newer players since Jan 2022 in general, certain numbers have to be higher now. For example, bunboys had only been out for about six months at the time this data was pulled. I swear there have to be more by now.
The website should separate the hyur clans because they're kind of like different races and I think my favorite race highlander would've been on this list if it was separated
I actually had a fantasia phase where I tried out different races, but I found myself settling on Hrothgar in the end. Gotta stick with what feels right.
I initially made a male roe to parody Linkara but after some time, realizing i’d be investing a lot of tim into the game, I created a new character and made it a femroe based on an oc of mine.
I actually surprised myself that I made a bun boi as my wol, I haven't used my free fantasia.

After ten years playing FFXIV, I must agree with your findings. I noticed a change in the last 4 years, which naturally coincided with the introduction of the Viera and Hrotgar race. Quickly, the scenery in Limsa boasted even more variety that usual. A good thing in my opinion. For myself, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I used Fantasia on my main, and my two ALTs. 😆 Elezen male, Miqo’te male and female, female Reogadyn and female Au Ra.
Proportions, height and gait, are the main reasons behind my aesthetic choices. 😊

If Hrothgar had decent customization options I'd probably make one. As it stands I'll stick to my Elezen and Roegadyn.
I started playing back in patch 2.45. I tried a female roe because I really wanted a character that looked like Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn but I couldn’t get it so I I tried elezen female. I liked her but my spouse said the elezen look stretched out. I also played dnd back in the day for many years but only base races of human, elf, dwarf, half-elf, and halfling were ever allowed and I got bored of making characters like that so I settled on miqo’te for something different.
When heavensward came out I fantasia’s into a au ra female because when I played dnd in the past I always wanted to play a half-dragon and they looked like them. I tried changing her to a a viera and even tried a au ra with a different face, but they just felt wrong. I eventually went back to the first au ra I made right after heavensward release. Have been her for a few years now.
Interseting that all of these all of these races have "issues" that SE just doesn't seem to care to fix.
Elezen: I know people complain about the long necks, but I think the actual issue is the tiny heads atop them. If they just gave us a head size slider then players that wanted to could make the heads a bit bigger. The other issue is the running animations as well as some other emotes are very stiff.
Viera: I actually feel like these seem super common, but likely the reason they're here is because they're newer, but also because they have few options for hats. Should be an easy fix...
Hrothgar: Not enough customization options with weird restrictions like hair being restricted to certain faces types and horns only being an option for 1 (or 2) faces. Like, why not open that up!? Also, lack of hats again.
Roe: Apart from some awkward and goofy animations, I think the only reason these peeps aren't that popular is because of glamour issues. On the males, some stuff looks stretched out and pixelated. I personally haven't found this to be that big of an issues, but what does bother me (and the same issue is with the women) is that arms/wrists of clothes seem blown up for some reason. For the men, I kind of get it, they have large wrists. But for the women, why does every outfit it I put on them have blow up arms/wrists?
While I wanted to be one of the taller races. I settled on female Highlander because their bodies aren't exaggerated like Roes who are built like a refrigerator. Viera is out of the question because I like to helms and hats. Elezens while I see as beautiful like Viera but are too posh for my taste and the feel more stiff when you move around but that just me.
My main character, ever since I began playing back in ARR is a female Roe. I'm even in a linkshell for "giantesses."
That said, I guess I'm not an endgame player as I got to the end of Endwalker and then just.... stopped playing before the final dungeon and trial, so I dn't have the mount or minion. I've got about half the classes to 90 from running roulettes and whatnot, but... just never actually finished the story. I hadn't been enjoying the Endwalker dungeons, and I've never liked the 8-man trials, so knowing I was looking forward to 2 of those back to back... I figured I'd get around to it eventually, but then just... didn't. And then i stopped logging in, and then I canceled the sub... but I still plan to come back for Dawntrail. Until then....

They're simple and have 0 cons for glams
With other races glam can look awkward or unfitting but with hyur everything fits nicely
For example if your character has a tail and is wearing a cape of any sort your tail clips through the cape and can look odd
That's probably reason why I settled on Hyur Highlander. Hyurs only have to deal with hair clipping. And I like to earrings, hats and helms.

IMO the most near identical cosplay Elezen can get is Haurchefant. I heard that most of Aymeric, Estinien or even Fourchenault glamour cosplay kinda lament about is some little parts (either it's hair or face) off it makes the whole so odd. At one side, i can understand that the option is kinda limited(?) and more generic design. But also, it feels like "meh" nothing special about Elezen face (debatable) compare to other races.
At one day, I scoffed at myself thinking about "if there any "cross" races such as Garlean (like Lucia, Solus, Nael, Zenos etc) and say Hilda. Together with the option to make your WoL into teen (13-17 years old) rather than mature adult, it would make the server explode even more. But there is no way CBU3 gonna add them. Even if it comes to their mind, they would bring it in the end expansion of next arc long after female Hrothgar." The only thing i can do is crossing my finger.
i think elezen faces are gorgeous, they're very broody edgy model esque features. the almost awkard unique beauty
And with Elezen women, theyre adorable but Ysayle isnt all THAT pretty, she looks slightly off and shes far down the list for most people's waifus. We love her as a character, not necessarily for her looks.

It doesn't really work with most of the other races as well, but my male miqo actually started out the game as sixteen, and before I learned the real supposed time frame of the game, was around 21 or so in my head canon when he completed EW. It helps that some of the facial features you can choose are a bit younger looking. It was part of the reason I chose a male miqo over a male hyur based on an OC I had, because said OC was a bit younger looking, and I just could not work out a male Hyur that worked.
I was a Thighlander for a while, ngl I loved her ❤ she looked cool tall strong with some softness to her regardless of the race taking a more masculine approach stereotype. I chose that race after being a lala for a long time and an au ra for a short time, it gave me a break from dealing with people, friendly or otherwise and I could focus on the game/story more. I am a bunny now, I do miss my thighlander a bit but fem bunnies make up for her with their long legs, theres a lot of glam that look good on bunnies because of this. I was thinking of going Elezan but glad I went bunny ❤ we will see how long I last before I decide to try another race, may be even give fem Hroth a try to celebrate Dawntrail and race release
Femroe for life here (since 2.2!). Though I did have brief forays as a male Roe, Highlander male, and Bunny Woman. I do have my Femgar fantasia picked out and give it a go for a couple weeks after I'm done with the DT story, but like always I'm going back to my Femroe, I get a lot of compliments on mine and glams, it does take a lot of work though! Gotta think like a Domi-Mommi!
I blame the limited choices for making a decent looking Femroe, there is one, maybe two faces that need to be put in the bin and replaced, you know which ones Yoshi-P!

We just need more customization at the end of the day. So the less popular races would be played more... Maybe add an option for neck lenght for Elezen, just sayin'.
First character I made was a Roe female, she's still my main. the problem is that it's very hard to make an attractive Roe female. Very few of the skin tones are "natural" looking. Most people want a "white" roe female, and the white skin tones are TERRIBLE, so are the green skin tones. To make an attractive Roe female you have to choose a darker skin tone, something from say caramel to mocha. If you choose the right skin tone (none of them are prefect, but a darker mocha comes pretty close) with that as the base the options are bad... I would say that the features are not very "feminine" on many of the pre-sets but there is at least one feminine option for each feature and you can create an attractive Roe female if you are willing to take the time. I would like to think that my character is attractive in the amazon milf sense. (Madison Myrelle Midgardsormr) That is the problem with Roe though, it's hard to create an attractive Roe fem whereas it's easy to create an attractive say Cat Girl or Aura. I do love playing a Roe female specifically because it is hard to make a good looking one, it makes them very rare, Madison always stands out in a crowd.
Been a FemRoe since I started in stormblood and never used either of my free fantasia. FemRoe's are just nice.
When ShB started a LOT of people actually glamored to Hroth, but the customization limitations and lack of headgear just turned a lot of them off, and those who stuck with them like me became a minority.

No, but seriously. I made mine a Male Cat because that's what I figured the ideal "adventurer" race was. The current main glam i have on him is Pagos Bandana, Raptorskin Shirt, Punching Gloves, Nezha Lord Slops, and Street High Tops. It really brings out the "guy that lives life to the fullest" feel i wanted for the character.

Strted as female Miqote in 2011, then ARR came out and went female Midlander till HW, then back to Miqote till ShB and at some point went female Lala, then my old Glams looked like i was wearing a diaper so i quickly went Female Aura and been that ever since. Now i also made a new Char on another data center where i started as female Lala and with that made Glams that fit the character much easier, and been playing as that char for a few years. I tried several male versions of the same races, but male Aura run funny, male Miqote are over bred, Male Lalas i have associated with, how to put this, non serious aka jokers/pranksters (not all). The other male races just never made it on my radar. Then when i hink about it, endgame is all about Glam ( and Savages) so that didctates my race mostly.

I think the reason why we have so many male Hyur among all characters is that's the default that people who make bots use. And bots make up a surprising amount of the population that people aren't aware of since they go out of their way to disappear into the backdrop.

To be honest, if bunboys didn't come to be, I would have continued suffering from fantasia addiction by jumping from catboy to femroe, back and forth. I am bunboy and... I can't tell you how liberating is it NOT to feel the need to fantasia. At least, that feeling has dropped by ~95%. I still have urges to fantasia but that's mostly because I want to see my femroe and catboy version of my current character again ;-;. I miss them, they were both pretty and cute. I will definitelly fantasia when hrothgals come out because I am very curious to see. But chance is that maybe after 1 MSQ finish, I will fantasia back to bunboy and do it again xD
I have made an elezen alt but with a specific style in mind. I managed to make 'it' only with it and I am happy. If there were a statistics of which race face is used the least, I guess I would win for viera (Face4) and for my elezen alt as well (old man face 4).... heck, even the male Au Ra Face4 is goddang handsome... Or maybe it's just the horns.
I actually fantasia'd my retainers to previous forms that I missed. I get to see them every day now!

@@Setulge This is why I got 6 characters. Main completed entire story, 2 of them at start of EW and other 3 are going through ARR. Whenever the urge to play X race/preset, I just hop on one of my alt chars for a while, though my main is atm same race as one of the alts, but different clan and different look. I got 2 slots left for same server shenanigans and one of them is reserved for future femHroth.

Used to be a male roe, then turned into a hroth, but now I kind of want to be both! Miss the tallness and absolute mass that is a roe, but I do like the furriness of hroth and now idk which one I feel more of
I play male Roe. Best side effect of playing Male Roe I've found, is I've gotten one creepy tell in 2,500 hours. I'm sure we're probably packing down there, but I'm pretty sure everyone's first choice is flicking a male Mi'qote's adorable ears, and they are legion.
I started as female Au Ra, changed to Male Miqo'te after two weeks and stayed until finally male Viera were introduced to the game and will never look back.

ps: also notice a lot of people who I raid with and are in PF's (Savage and ults) are male or female vieras. So they're used by a lot of endgame players.
I played as a Miqo'te for a short period but this was during the trial. I could not afford a sub back then. After I bought FFXIV sense everyone said it was a great time to join with Shadowbringers brand new, I started a Hrothgar.

i don't play tall races in ffxiv because they are all... tall. it feels weird to me, i prefer to be small. i love my lalafell. if there were more height options for all races i'd surely try out elezen or femroe.

Your experience with Viera seems to me fairly ... i dont want to say confirmation bias, but youre looking for them. Theyre awfully rare, even among content creators and endgame characters, especially to the Plain Jane Au ra girls like me
Ngl I play an Elezen male because so many people talked about how ugly they are so I had to show Elezen’s some love, especially since my fav fantasy race to play as in most rpgs are Elves. They can be very pretty if you mess around enough with the face. I guess the awkward body proportions make them less appealing but it makes me happy they’re not just some humans with elf ears slapped on.
I love my Elezen guy and will never fantasia into anything else. The long neck (or rather, small head) never bothered me and neither did the stiff running animation - I think the rest are just elegant and sometimes perhaps a touch pompous, which fits them well.
I think the female midlander and male Au Ra runs are much worse to look at, but you get used to it either way

I'm a player who values character aesthetics above all.
I played a female duskwight for a long time and loved her to bits, but the running animation plus awkward proportions in portrait mode were significant dealbreakers for me. I did experiment with every race/gender combo even as a player who would normally play female characters exclusively, but the usual problems still boiled down to how the portraits looked. I eventually settled for a Xaela Au Ra, and now a Rava Viera, but I can't lie that I do feel a bit jealous whenever I go to Limsa and look at the locals.
What i see in the comments, girls are playing bunnyboys and boys playing catgirls. But real men plays male Roe. Cya
I'd probably be more inclined to viera and may fantasia into one when they're finally allowed to wear hats
a important factor that i assume plays into the all characters stats is bots. They are banning 10 000+ bots every week acording to their lodestone weekly update. These bots ofc dont own any expansions since their only purpose is to shout their ads. They are also often lalafells just so its harder to click on them and report them, their names are jibbrish and unless you clock on them and open up their insepect you wont remember their name long enough to type it out in a report.

I main Femroe, and it makes me sad to see that they are the least played race/gender combo at only 19,000! I'm glad I'm doing my part to show Femroe's some love. And my 1 alt is a Hrothgar. Detention i go then! But all real talk here, i think they released bun boys to early. They just need to fix the issues for them before they released the new race combo options...but put "limited" resources towards unlocking gender locked gear. I do understand that people love the gear unlocking from genders, 100%. Its just these issues has been a thing for over 4 years now, its a bit silly to have to continue to wait and play the whole what can i wear and can't wear game.

People don’t play them because the customisation is limited and some of them just have awful face and skeleton tbh, like female elezen is just straight up having a grandma face with a very bulky body which is just cursed
If they release more variety of body types and faces then there will be more people playing them

I actually started as a fem Viera, I used my free one to become a fem au ra and stayed that for a long time. A friend got me some fantasias so I went lala for a few months. Now I’m a miqo te and I chose I think probably the least popular face and miqo type but I really just wanted to be a cat

For whatever reason my server is just filled with the “reject” races of FF XIV. Tons of lalas, Hrothgars and Roes and very few catboys and girls. I’ve always liked my server for that, everyone kind of goes against the norm!!😄

It’s not surprising to see Roe and Hroth are the least played for both men and women characters for Hroth it’s because they’re to bulky and on average most people prefer a slender character or a average frame one as for both Genders on the Roe it’s because well because they’re kind of ugly and it’s really hard to make a good looking one you like looking at and for the male’s they get hit double because again that bulky frame one way to solve the problem for the Hroth would be to add an option that allows you to have a body frame that more resembles Kimahri from FF 10 I think if they did that then people would be more inclined to play as one. As for Roe the only option to get the numbers up would be a complete redesign of the character model entirely sad to say.
