If you want to see the direct inspiration for Rickman's Nottingham, it is the 1980s TV series "Robin of Sherwood". In that series he was played by Nicholas Grace, who's performance was studied by Rickman and he said he took the key "crazed" elements from this one. Robin of Sherwood is also probably the best portrayal of the legend. It's rather in the spirit of the sword and sorcery movies of the time. Perhaps a bit like excalibur, which you've also reacted to. Even the first 2 series of robin of sherwood is a great erxperience. Enjoy.
I live in Nottingham England and about 10 year's ago I attended a local police awards dinner at the council house. I met the sheriff of Nottingham and her husband and she invited me and my wife to have afternoon tea the following week. She was a lovely woman. There was no taking me to the castle and throwing me in the dungeon.😂
Now that you've watched 'Prince of Thieves', I'd highly suggest watching, if you haven't already, Mel Brook's 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights', which spoofs 'Prince of Thieves' as well as other Robin Hood movies.
Another "Robin Hood" came out the same year (1991), with Uma Thurman as Maid Marian and there was a "Robin and Marian" in 1976 with Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn
Brian Blessed who plays Robin's father was such an incredible actor who gives so much energy in acting. He played Prince Vultan in the 1980 film Flash Gordon and Richard IV in Rowan Atkinson's first part of the series the Black Adder.
It’s funny you should mention the Ewoks when you saw their camp - When Kenner released a line of Robin Hood figures to accompany the movie they actually re-used two of the Ewok Star Wars play sets (among many other bits) in the line.
It’s funny toy mentioned, the village reminded her of the Ewok village because they sold toys and playsets for this movie and the playset for the Sherwood Forest Village was just a re-painted Kenner Ewok village play set
I haven't seen this in years! Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, Christian Slater, Alan Rickman and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. Such an all star cast and fantastic film all around.
Funny to hear the bandit's forest dwelling reminds you of the Ewok's village: The Kenner toy playset for the Ewoks was later re-used, with minor color changes, for the Prince of Thieves toy playset.
Kirk and Spock were absolutely amazing in Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Khan, but this sequel was elevated to greatness by the performance of actor Ricardo Montalban as Khan. :)
What about “Die Hard” and the Harry Potter films? I would also recommend “Truly Madly Deeply”, “Dogma”, and “Rasputin: Dark Servant Of Destiny” (an HBO film for which Rickman won a well deserved Best Actor Emmy). Last time I checked it was available for viewing on RUclips.
It’s hilarious that Robin’s lair reminds you of the Ewok village, because when this movie came out they had a toy line with a Sherwood Forrest playset that was, in fact, just a repainted Ewok Village playset. 😂

Great acting, obviously the special effects aren't as good, but it's a classic film. Amazing cast. Why even Robin Hood doesn't sound like he's from the American midwest like in this one.
