In this video we show you the parts you need to buy and how to assemble them in order to make a very affordable backdrop pulley system for your studio.
Thank you for the illustration of the parts needed but It would help your explanation if you could show a demonstration of the pulley system in action and how it functions to lower and raise the back drop.
Why would one want to lower and raise it? Wouldnt it make more sense to have 3 or even 5 dowels with your favorite backgrounds and roll them up like a rollo?
Created this tonight. Works Great! For me not being a handy man and not having any specs. I was really impressed. Parts got a little expensive after going to 2 hardware stores and buying strong enough support hooks. Everything together including the seamless backdrop cost about $80, but the fact that it can pull up and be out of the way without backdrop stands on the sides makes it worth the build. I would suggest a extra eye hook at the bottom to tie down the extra weight from the back drop. Or a 10lb workout weight.
This is brilliant because it introduces a pulley that can be used for any lifting purpose. The advantage is that both side pull evenly!! Thank you for your great diagrams and info. Why are the S hooks necessary- for ease of movement? Rotation?
Hi. I found your video very helpful and easy to understand. Could you please advise me on the pulley system I might use to lift a 9 metre/27 foot long stage backdrop made of fabric? I need to raise it approx 4 metres off the stage. The problem I have is that the wooden plank across the top of the backdrop will need to be secured at more than just the ends. Please help. Thank you. Raphael Williams
It would great to see it work and where you place the ropes on the pulleys.. Does it pull the dowel evenly? I'm trying to create a system for a dowel that holds all my different elastic on rolls, want it out of the way until I need it to drop down to cut a piece from one roll. Need to attach to ceiling, assuming it would work the same as wall attachment. If you have another video with more detail?
You only needed one double pulley. If you REALLY want the pull-part of the rope off to the side, then simply use a SINGLE pulley at the near end of the rod. If you needed to keep the long cross-rope from sagging, simply screw in an eye-hook or two across the middle, and route the rope through that.
Hey; I really appreciate the simplicity of this video! Your explanation of the pulley drive; clear camera angle on the knot/dowel set up; S hooks etc. was spot on for me. Thank you for sharing.
I wonder if there is a way to somehow make it portable or utilize pieces of the very common backdrop stand that doesn't have roll-up capabilities... Also, would love to see how it actually works
I don't know about for the stage, but a video about how a old school curtain system works might help. It works on pulleys, and opens & closes from center to sides.
You hang backdrops on it in your photography studio or wherever you take portraits. You hang the backdrops on them when they're low and then use the pulley system to raise them up high.
great system to lift anything i guess. i like the part of the detail when you mentioned a two pulleys in the initial sequence of pulleys - which i believe is the starting pulley and the last one to attach. thanks
can you do a video of you making it. Also when giving instructions on what is needed, can you put the words somewhere that popups ads, and youtube labelling isn't going to block it? Thankyou
well i want to cover my windows in my kitchen but the window is 18 feet wide to out side of windows and the windows are 6 feet deep but there are three windows in total.with about a foot between them the middle window been the wide's and i have a Jensen cloth or screen for the shade its quite heavy. how many pully and other things would i need?
so is that one rope with each end tied to each eye hook in the dowel? if it is i sure would like to see how your going to get each side to raise evenly. im guessing that its two separate ropes one on each eye hook right.
I have literally called everywhere in my city (Toronto) - No one carries 10ft. Thats like a speciality length that id have to custom make and order in bulk
Es obvio como trabaja este sistema de poleas y cuerdas. Pero se espera al final del video ver el funcionamiento de este. Me gusta que es rápida la explicación sin complicaciones. Ahora será cosa de construirlo y ver cada uno como funciona.
In place of the 10 foot dowel or rod, just use an exact length of rope you need to carry your specific project. 50 meters huh? Lol Well then use a rope 50 meters long. Get your required number of pulleys, eye bolts, and S hooks. (Instead of S hooks you can use D rings or carabiners) You obviously cannot screw an eye bolt in each end of the carrying rope as he did in each end of the dowel. But, you can use an O ring on either end of it instead. Then simply string everything together as he diagrammed it. Use your phone to take a picture of his written diagram. Then just follow the 'map' and you'll get there. . .
I'm sorry to say the way you show it, won't work. It would just lift 1/2 of curtain, you need to a way to wind, an eye screw in the center of of the dowel, will just pull up. to roll up you need to staple that dowel on one side to use a rolling device and attach one end of the cord and the rest of the cord, under and the other side to the first pulley.
No he didn't say anything about a pulley at the bottom. And he said 2 double and 1 single pulley. I was wondering what you did with the thing at the bottom too.
Helpful video, thanks. So are the s-hooks and eye hooks for the pulleys to allow them to swivel according to the direction of the force? Also, what is the purpose of the second double pulley? Is it just to reduce the force required to lift the dowel or does it serve another purpose? I'm a bit thick like so need these kind of things explaining. lol :)
Suggestion : show it working at the end
Yah much better
HAAAAAAAA
construction video without demo is like bicycle with out wheels
nice but you didnt show how you hook the ropes into the pulleys???
Thank you for the illustration of the parts needed but It would help your explanation if you could show a demonstration of the pulley system in action and how it functions to lower and raise the back drop.

I can't believe they made this video and didn't actually show it!!!

How about seeing it work ffs
To show it in action would really help us visual learners....

Or, if you want it even cheaper, just put the line through bigger eye-hooks instead of pulleys. Works for me on a 5kg of roll up curtain.
THANK YOU FOR THE ILLUSTRATION!! oh my godddd ive been looking for this.
But also, im wondering... Is there a way to do this without all the pulleys?

Well.... Lets see it work.

My brother, it's "eye bolt" or "eye bolt screw"
Can you send a modification to mount from the ceiling instead of on the wall(s)?
What do I do if when I lower it. It only lowers on one side! I need both sides to go down at once.

Nice and easy, I like it. Giving you 996 reasons to see out channel as well.
Okay so no demonstration on how it works. BIG FAT THUMBS DOWN!!!
Short of a nice to actually show a working model other than that it was a waste of time
Dear bro..if u show practically it will be easy to understand pls..
Hey; I really appreciate the simplicity of this video! Your explanation of the pulley drive; clear camera angle on the knot/dowel set up; S hooks etc. was spot on for me. Thank you for sharing.
I need to lift a 50 meter pipe . Please advise.
I wonder if there is a way to somehow make it portable or utilize pieces of the very common backdrop stand that doesn't have roll-up capabilities... Also, would love to see how it actually works
That's wonderful but what about the bottom we just left the ropes to the floor does it stay there
Can i add 5 more pulleys in between for wider and heavier back drafts?
can you please draw a diagram (and show us) how to build a split stage curtain that opens and closes using pulleys?
I don't know about for the stage, but a video about how a old school curtain system works might help. It works on pulleys, and opens & closes from center to sides.

7 year old underrated comment.
Superb, thank you. Clear, concise and well thought out. It's a great money saving tip thank you.
Sure I do not understand you should demonstrate and show us together because the diagrams is very small and not clear

Great description of the pulley system, I was stuck for ages wondering how to configure that.
Nice Video. I am just wondering if it would work alright with just two pullies instead of 3? Thanks Very much :)
Jonathan Santos I am wondering the same thing. Why do you need two double pulleys, seems like you could accomplish the same thing with one.
can you do a video of you making it. Also when giving instructions on what is needed, can you put the words somewhere that popups ads, and youtube labelling isn't going to block it? Thankyou

That is what I was wondering also.
Good job sir salute
How to put the curtain?
Thank you so much for the clear explanation.
A demonstration would be very nice and helping.
I have literally called everywhere in my city (Toronto) - No one carries 10ft. Thats like a speciality length that id have to custom make and order in bulk
Use electric conduit pipe steel
10ft wide you need three ropes one in center avoiding any sagging
Not copper itll bend
Yay! Great video

Any suggestions on how to achive this without being able to attach to a wall? temporary back drop suspension needed for a stage?
I need a 50 meter back drop pulley system. The height is 15feet. Please advise me.
Your video was very informative.
In place of the 10 foot dowel or rod, just use an exact length of rope you need to carry your specific project.

Danilo Scott it’s ok if you don’t get it. It works just as intended.
Great one ☝️
One double pulley too many!
So what does it do?
kinda quiet but awesome
Wouldn’t this work just as well with only one double pulley?
demo how it works ?
Thank you
BIT-CT 2I
Very nice, Thank you for the video
thank you
Nice 👍
Nice, thank you. Used this same design but for a curtain pulling system, same rigging.
Please in French possible..please
Do you put the materisl on first?
Thank you...
No demo. :(
What kind of motor could I use to make this automated?
It's not gonna roll up the mantel/blinds
Where to bye ?
Buy I mean
Please in French
Not much good
Very well explained!
Great little video, very helpful! Thank you!!!
Works like a dream
it would help if you described how to install it rather than just the parts required.
Um... he did. That's the whole point of the video.
what
at 1:41 I think he mentions there is another pulley down at the bottom.
No he didn't say anything about a pulley at the bottom. And he said 2 double and 1 single pulley. I was wondering what you did with the thing at the bottom too.
Tnx to u for watching me
Thanks - worked for me. Lowe's had the double-pulleys. I only needed a 4-ft. bar and used an old hockey stick shaft, thus saving some $.
what can you use this for
sorry im dutch
Kapoy
How much is it for all the stuff together?
dj A Read the title of the video genius!
easily explained
My pleasure. Give us a shout if we can help with anything.
Could I see it in action?
Thank you for the drawing

nice vid. It'd be great however if you reconsidered your choice in hardware store. Lowe's is way offside when it comes to worker's rights.
So what about workers rights. They do sponsor Nascars & Ace do not !
by 'workers rights' she means the unions right to force workers to pay them. Lowe's workers are happy already.
