    Jim Steinman, who wrote this song, also wrote Total Eclipse of the Heart, and Celine Dion's It's All Coming Back to Me Now. All huge songs in their time and similar in style to this one. Very dramatic and almost Broadway like.

    • @jonnybb
      @jonnybb 2 года назад +6

      It's All Coming Back to Me Now, was actually going to be for Meat Loaf first. Well after 'Pandora's box' who did it 7 years before Celine Dion.

    • @Frostrazor
      @Frostrazor 2 года назад +8

      Also wrote Bonnie's " Holding Out for a Hero" and Air Supplys "Making Love Out of Nothing At All".
      All of Jim's songs had a big production stage show/broadway vibe.
      Meat Loaf has his own version of "It's all Coming Back to Me"

    Fun Fact: the music video for this, was directed by Michael Bay, yes THAT Michael Bay.
    He also directed 2 more music videos for Meat Loaf´s songs: "Objects in the Rearview Mirror" & "Rock´n´Roll Dreams come true", the second video features Angelina Jolie, when she was 16 years old.
    Also, the whole "THAT" thing refers to the last verse, when his girlfriend sings: "..... sooner or later you´ll be screwing around." and Meat replies: "No I won´t do...that." Meat Loaf was even making fun of the fact, that people don´t get it.
    During his live performances, he would usually bring out one of the female backing vocalists and they would perform this song like a Broadway style duet, check it out there are plenty of live videos here on YT.
    RIP Meat Loaf & Jim Steinman.

    • @Frostrazor
      @Frostrazor 2 года назад +3

      While all true - it isn't ONLY the screwing around part he's talking about that he won't do. That's only one line in the song that he won't do. In each stanza, he mentions something he will "never do"
      "I'll never forget the way you feel right now"
      "|'ll never do it better than I do it with you"
      "I'll never forgive myself if we don't go all the way"
      "I'll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life"
      I would do anything for love, but I won't do that. "That" refers to each of these lines he says he'll never do throughout the song.

    The things he won’t do for love:
    Lie to you
    Forget the way you feel right now
    Forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight
    Do it better than I do it with you
    Stop dreaming of you every night of my life
    See that it's time to move on
    Be screwing around

    I remember hearing this song on MTV back in 1993 and it was a massive hit everywhere... and I thought that Meat Loaf was from 1977 (The year 'Bat out of hell' came out and took the world by storm) I couldn't believe that an artist from 16 years ago was making such a huge comeback w/ 'Bat out of hell II: Back into hell' in '93... Then, I also found out that Aerosmith had a career from 1973... I thought they had emerged in 1987(The year they had a commercial comeback) and had no idea they were a successful band in the 70's before they crashed in the early 80's.
    Back then, kids in my age group listened to the new music scenes that came along... whether it be Nirvana, Mariah Carey, Guns N' Roses, Lenny Kravitz, Boyz II Men, etc... In the middle of that, u had veteran artists like Meat Loaf making waves in popular music, while his older record were not even available anymore... Early 90's was a huge shakeup for the past - Led Zeppelin, Abba, Jimi Hendrix, The Eagles, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, Rush, AC/DC ... these classic artists were slowly making huge waves in popularity after being largely ignored for years.
    Meat Loaf made a significant impact w/ his brand of theatrical, operatic rock... and by the late 90's, a whole new crop of bands emerged that combined classical, operatic and theatrical influences w/ heavy rock & metal music... Kamelot, Nightwish, Savatage, After Forever, Within Temptation, Epica, etc...
    Meat Loaf classics - "Rock n roll dreams come through" ... 'Not a dry eye in the house' ... 'Heaven can wait' ... "It just won't quit" ... "I'm gonna love her for the both of us" ... 'Objects in the rear view mirror' ... 'Midnight at the lost & found' ... "Two out of three ain't bad" ... 'Life is a lemon & I want my money back' ... "I'd lie for you (and that's the truth)" ... 'Going all the way'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥

    My favorite part about this song is that after he was popular in the late 70s he completely went away until 1993 and then out of nowhere this song blew up. It went to number one in countries all over the world when just a year before he was considered a nobody. He certainly proved something. in the last week I've heard all kinds of people say things about how much his music meant to them. Definitely well deserved. I can see he made his impact on the world.

    "Bat out of Hell" hit my high school like a "Bat out of Hell".😈
    So much so that my gf at the time and I were listening to "Paradise" on the radio in my car.
    We were those kids.😍😍😋😋
    This was off his later album but still qualifies as good stuff.😜
    I lived in a place where they didn't play so high school kids can't go to Chicago etc. so, didn't get to see them live.
    That said, We did manage to catch Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at Arrowhead in KC😎
    We lost Jim Steinmann January of last year.
    Thanks for helping me morn

    You are right she was a actor and not the singer. The other video (I believe) who sung with him live also was the singer. This was already a early 1990s Meatloaf and she did not do the video for some reason. Also might be the last Meatloaf worked till recently again with the great Great writer Jim Stienman who passed less then a year ago, but it was with the Great Micheal Bay who directed the video this was made in the 90s. Bay directed Transformers moves etc.

    More fun facts: The beautiful woman who sang in this video is really an actress named Dana Patrick - who is NOT the one singing. She lip-synced it! It was really sung by English singer Lorraine Crosby. But Dana Patrick was so beautiful and convincing in this video that several record labels offered her recording deals after the video came out, thinking it was really her that was singing! The actual singer, Lorraine Crosby, did put out at least one album of her own.

    I have been watching you for a minute. There is an important life lesson in what you're doing, namely educating yourself about American popular music. In doing so you have increased your capacity for enjoyment. The more info we have, the more things we can think about and appreciate. That sounds trivial, but as you continue to grow in your knowledge you will notice this pocess. Already you know more than your peers about the amazing breadth of popular music broadly speaking.

    This is one song where the album version is so much better, it's frankly wrong to compare them. It's a full 12 minutes long, it has more instrumental breaks, and 2 more verses from Lorraine Crosby. Well worth checking out the full version.

    I always thought the female vocals arrive so late in the song to symbolize her (or her love) being resurrected from the dead 🤷‍♂️

    "Two out of three ain't bad" and "Life is a lemon (and I want my money back)" are also beautiful. Check them out. Thanks, my friend....
