  • In today's video, we look at a telescoping clamp solution that you can make with a Maker Pipe Coupling, 1/2" EMT Conduit, an adapter shim, and a quick clamp (optional). Each of the pieces used in the video will be linked below. Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe for weekly videos and build ideas!

You can always glue the shim inside the coupling to skip the step of sliding the shim back and forth.

or use the screw hole to capture the shim

@@JoshuaJoshua0 would be difficult because the shim is thin and you can’t screw through it all the way - the screw piercing the shim would prevent the 1/2 inch pipe from freely sliding through the shim.

@@christiancicirale7149 yep, it would have to be a small screw

Nice trick for a good clamp, but i'm trying to make a better tarp pole that shrinks down as short as possible to fit a bike top tube bag and still extends 2m, or 1.8-1.9m. Best short version I can find is a telescoping boom arm with twist lock instead of cam locks. And correct me if I am wrong, these clamps aren't available in as many diameter options?

How much vertical weight could this hold with out retracting/going down?

I don't have an exact number unfortunately. If I had to guess I'd say at least 125-150 pounds

It looks like there is a hole to use a set screw to hold the sleeve in place it it was drilled.

Hi Darren, once we have the 1" EMT Coupling, you'll be able to do the same solution with 1" and 3/4" EMT. We will have those hopefully in the next 2-3 months. Thanks for the comment
