The reason you're having some trouble cutting the Spam with "Dental Floss" is because you're using Dental Tape. The difference is that "Floss" is a round string and Tape is a flat string. When you try to press the tape through the Spam one edge of the tape will encounter more resistance than the other and start to drag, pulling the Tape to that side, creating an uneven cut. With a round string there is no edge so it'll push through evenly.
Not to mention the block being cut should be elevated so you can pull "through" it fully without having to use a knife to finish it, and you also need to wrap the floss so you get enough force without it slipping off your fingers.

I just tried Spam for the first time in my life (fried in a skillet) and I was surprised at how much I liked it! I will definite try this recipe in the future. Thanks Emmy!
Make a set of handles to tie the floss onto like two pencils or two chopsticks. You rap the two fingers closest to the thumb onto the handle either side of the floss both ends to help you pull it tight. I have also seen a cake leveler used to cut cheese or soft meat. Here in NZ, they sell beef and lamb chips (fries) in bags to cook like that.
Going to have to try this one, for sure! Crazy and tasty, with a "county fair, everything deep fried or on a stick" kind of whimsy. Bet it would be nice with some sweet chili sauce like "Mae Ploy" too!
I'm now limited to non-mammalian meats because I contracted Alphagal. So I eat turkey spam now. It's not bad, it's less salty than lower sodium spam. 520 mg per serving vs. 580mg. It might work well with this, it looks yummy.
jbeargrr how did you get diagnosed if you don't mind me asking? I'm currently trying to work out what meats I'm allergic/intolerant to (and why) and read that blood tests may give a false negative to this.
Another great recipe Emmy! I love your show. My boyfriend loves spam. I will surprise him with this one. I love your presentation, and your personality. Great touch, by putting the fries in the spam can!!!
My sister and I, as children, sent to Hormel for a SPAM recipe book. One recipe was “Fishy Sticks”: rather fatter sticks of SPAM, breaded and deep-fried and served as a substitute for fish sticks!
On my place, there's a version of this... fried donut (not exactly a donut that have hole in it) but topped with Abon (shredded meat that has been boiled and dried), and some kind of sauce and mayo and hot sauce... Salty, savory and a bit sweet.
As long as it isn't one of those crappy egg-shaped models, an egg slicer works great for this. Crushed up Ritz make for a great crunchy coating for these.

I imagine it isn't too dense to cut with a wire cheese cutter. When I use Panko, I crush up like 1/3rd of it to get better coverage of stuff I am deep frying.
French fries in Utah and Idaho are always served with fry sauce! Mix your may and ketchup together in approximately equal parts. I prefer slightly more ketchup than mayo and some people like to add a splash of pickle juice it as well. I personally leave the pickle juice with the pickles.

Hey Emmy, love the video. In the future if you're looking for a lower sodium Spam? The Bacon Spam actually has less, than the 25% less sodium. For the same serving size, the 25% Less Sodium is 580mg for a 2 Oz Serving. The Bacon Spam is 520mg for a 2 Oz Serving. Odd huh? You'd think with bacon being in the name it'd have even more, but nope, less. I have to watch the Sodium in my diet, so I get the Bacon to enjoy a tiny bit here or there along with the rest of my meals through the day. (Not that I get it often, just once in a while)

We often use spam, sometimes fried with eggs for breakfast. When I open the can, I stick a knife blade in the meat diagonally and just pull it out. And I have never had a problem slicing it with a knife. Easy peasy.
People always say spam is a 4 mil or a struggle meal if you haven't looked lately spam is not as cheap as it used to be in 2000. Its almost 5 dollars in some stores. I'm a day one spam eater FOR LIFE
If you read this I just watched a man rinse the salt out of his spam. He sliced them once then heated some water in a pot then he put the spam in the pot for approximately six minutes then he removed them and rinsed them with clean water and let them cool for approximately five minutes. That removes the salt but still has the spam flavor.
You can make soap with that oil ... just filter it (I've heard you can add baking soda to remove strong odors then filter it) and follow some tutorials on making soap bars that you can use for cleaning and laundry for example. ...same with animal fat and those soaps are like the best ever.
That looks good. I personally like mixing fried spam and onion in mac n cheese. Cheap and feeds an army if you use two boxes, 2 spam, and a whole onion.
I was at first really skeptical of this recipe combo, but then my grandmother tried it when making Southern Mac and cheese with Velveeta, jalepeno and egg. OMG. The best mac and cheese I ever had!
This is the first that I've seen one of your videos, Emmy, and I just have to say that you are delightful! I came for the spam fries, but stayed because you are so awesome! Thanks!
I live in Minnesota, in the home town of spam. When you went to smell the spam all I could think about is my drive through town and the smell of fresh Spam in real life. 😂
I like or should I say we like low sodium Spam. I don't find it hard to cut, rather easy, thick or thin. Because of the density it's so easy to make a uniform cut/slice. My fav way to eat it is to slice pretty thin and fry it in a non stick skillet, no oil or anything. Let the oils from the meat cook out.Cook till it's very crispy. Put a slice between a fresh slice of cracked wheat bread and eat it. Nothing on it, let the smokey flavor of the Spam and ate goodness of the bread shine. 😍
Also, to greatly reduce the salt content, remove and slice or cube the Spam, then soak it in a bowl of fresh water for at least half an hour, changing the water every 10 minutes or so, then drain, pat dry, & use. Remember: Even after it's been soaked, it will still be at least somewhat salty, so if you'll probably not want to add any salt to whatever dish you use it in.
Yummy those look so delicious!!! I love just plain old spam and rice Hawaiian style! So good, even with kimchi it tastes delicious!! Emmy you should make Kimchi fried rice with spam it’s amazing, with a little seaweed also an egg on top!! Amazing! 😊
I do a sort of lazy mans rice dish with spam, I use a bag of Knorr side rice dish, flavor dosnt realy matter but the herb and butter ones work well, I will dice up about 1/4 can of spam add that to the rice, but insted of cooking with water I add a can of french onion soup, and maybe 1/2 a can of watermix that up and nuck it for 12-13 min then stir in a couple table spoons of soy sause, now that stuff to me any way is almost adicking
My grandma would slice the spam, and season the slices with sugar and garlic powder, then bake it until it was golden-brown. It was always served with hot white rice, and is still one of my favorite meals to this day.
Emmy If you use a different technique it works. (I use this for slicing cinnamon rolls ). Put the string UNDER the thing And pullthe strings Upwards and into each other crossing across the blob like you were going to tie the string . It slices it quick and even.

I have a hard time with those keys, but I enjoy canned corn beef, spam not so much, too salty, and don't care for the texture.
I just tried Spam for the first time in my life (fried in a skillet) and I was surprised at how much I liked it! I will definite try this recipe in the future. Thanks Emmy!

I'm so glad I wasnt the only one to say this
Make a set of handles to tie the floss onto like two pencils or two chopsticks.
Spam is delicious and y'all haters.
Fredrick Bismark I like it too
I'm now limited to non-mammalian meats because I contracted Alphagal.
A cheese slicer works great on spam if you want it sliced perfect
My sister and I, as children, sent to Hormel for a SPAM recipe book. One recipe was “Fishy Sticks”: rather fatter sticks of SPAM, breaded and deep-fried and served as a substitute for fish sticks!
Whoa, weird. I could see it being more fish stick-like if served with tartar sauce, but SPAM doesn’t taste at all like fish. 🤷🏻♀️
this channel is a zillion times better than anything on the Food Network or The Cooking Channel.
and my wife and i watched those shows for years.
"fried chicken donuts"
DO IT EMMY!
On my place, there's a version of this... fried donut (not exactly a donut that have hole in it) but topped with Abon (shredded meat that has been boiled and dried), and some kind of sauce and mayo and hot sauce... Salty, savory and a bit sweet.
Or... bacon/sausage doughnuts.
Don't tempt Her!
I thought so too.
that DOES sound kinda delicious...
I need a daily dose of Emmy so I can fall asleep to her soothing voice
So love this. You make cooking fun and easy to learn. Thank you. Going to add this to my camping recipes. I know my family will love them.
As long as it isn't one of those crappy egg-shaped models, an egg slicer works great for this.
Crushed up Ritz make for a great crunchy coating for these.
Spam is literally one of my favorite foods and I would have never thought to have tried this! I think I’m gonna go see if I came some in my cabinet and give this try
Right?? Luckily i have ONE can of spam hahah.. Im quarantined and pregnant and this sounds so good right now haha
Yummie mummiee baaabyxoxo oooooo hope your baby stays healthy :)
@@iznathan 🙈💓aww thanks sweetpea !😊👶 im doin my best ! Baby is doing great, i find out the gender in 4 hours lol! Eeekkk! thankyou for the kind words it means alot really 💓😊
Yummie mummiee baaabyxoxo heyyy! hope everything goes well, what gender is your baby?
Spam is so good it’s one of my favorites too, pair it with rice and egg and it’s literally amazing
Who else is thankful for a new way to eat all that SPAM we bought before the lockdown? I sure am. Thanks Emmy! Always love your videos. Stay safe!
Tip: The wire that you can use is from a wire cheese slicer.
HonestSpiritual or a cake cutter
I love spam, we ate it a lot growing up. My mom is a wonderful cook, as we got older it only got better. With that said, I miss her spam hot dish that got left behind as her recipes grew. I called her today for the recipe and I am currently enjoying the while watching you! 😄
Hot dish? Do we have a Minnesotan here?
@@mockingbirdarmada you betya! 🤗
I imagine it isn't too dense to cut with a wire cheese cutter.
When I use Panko, I crush up like 1/3rd of it to get better coverage of stuff I am deep frying.
I found myself using a styrofoam cutter to do this! Is basically the same concept you developed with the floss, but its much more resistent and sharp
Or you could just a fry cutter.
Or an egg cutter. Use a knife to reduce the overall size of the can's content.
French fries in Utah and Idaho are always served with fry sauce! Mix your may and ketchup together in approximately equal parts. I prefer slightly more ketchup than mayo and some people like to add a splash of pickle juice it as well. I personally leave the pickle juice with the pickles.
Hol up. I'm pregnant. You might've just done something. BECAUSE THAT WITH PICKLE JUICE SOUNDS FIIIIIIIREEEE
I remember that when I lived in Pocatello for 8 mos. 😊
I agree on what she said about spam. It is very popular in the Philippines! Usually my mother would cook that every morning as it is served with white rice and filipino sausage. It is the ultimate filipino breakfast! lol
After cutting strips...put them in freezer for about 10 minutes. It stays together better when dipping.
My mom used to make mac and cheese with spam the first night after arriving at a camping during summer break.
Oh the goood memories!
Add a can of mushroom soup, undiluted to that too. It takes it over the top! Yum! Haven't thought about that for a long time... 😊
@@lauriebennett6257 mushroom soup in Mac n cheese? I'll take your word for it 😂
@@dunno6442Yep, it's good. Mac & cheese, cubed up Spam, cream of mushroom soup (undiluted) and sometimes a can of diced tomatoes. All topped of with some extra cheese and pooped in the oven just long enough to brown slightly. Yum! 😋 You should give it a try sometime...
@@lauriebennett6257 I definitely will thanks for the steps!
@@dunno6442 Your welcome! Hope you like it. 😊
First recipe from RUclips I’ve ever made! So simple and really tasty! Great with a sour cream, pepper and lime dip
Spam always handy to have when camping. Or if you are limited in pack space, it is an ok compact food. Well for me anyway.
SQUANCH!!!
Someone is a Rick and Morty fan.
Still awesome tho!!!! xD
Eric Franklin Shook I’m literally laughing so hard 😂
Was going to comment something similar.
Looked for this comment specifically

@Rainy Island IQ tests do a pretty piss poor job of determining a person's level of intelligence. About the only thing an IQ score is good for, is determining how good a person is at taking IQ tests..
My dad would soak the salty Spam in water for a few hours, pat it dry with paper towels & refrigerate overnight to dry it out more & then fry them up. The Spam was a lot less saltier this way.
always nice to hear that someone else knows that guam exists
Are there seriously ppl who've never heard of Guam?
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hey Emmy, love the video. In the future if you're looking for a lower sodium Spam? The Bacon Spam actually has less, than the 25% less sodium. For the same serving size, the 25% Less Sodium is 580mg for a 2 Oz Serving. The Bacon Spam is 520mg for a 2 Oz Serving. Odd huh? You'd think with bacon being in the name it'd have even more, but nope, less. I have to watch the Sodium in my diet, so I get the Bacon to enjoy a tiny bit here or there along with the rest of my meals through the day. (Not that I get it often, just once in a while)
Really?! That’s totally counter-intuitive, so odd.
Actually, I went on to the website. I double checked all the flavors they had, and made a list. This is based on a 2 Oz serving of Spam from each of these flavors.
SPAM® Classic - 790 mg
Spam with Cheese - 720 mg
Spam Teriyaki - 670 mg
Spam Jalapeno - 650 mg
Spam Hickory Smoke - 640 mg
Spam Hot & Spicy - 600 mg
Spam Chorizo - 590 mg
Spam Portuguese Sausage Seasoning - 590 mg
Spam Light - 580 mg
Spam 25% Less Sodum - 580 mg
Spam Black Pepper - 580 mg
Spam Bacon - 520 mg
Spam Turkey - 520 mg
Spam Garlic - 430 mg
Spam Tocino Seasoning - 420 mg
I made these with the same ingredients in my Nuwave which is a convection oven similar to an airfryer. I sprayed each side with PAM and cooked each side for 10 minutes. Perfecto! Crispy and delicious. Will definitely make again.
Thank you for the idea! We have the American Harvest equivalent of your Nuwave oven. It would be much healthier (if Spam can be healthy 😂) fixing it that way!
What temp?
The Royal Wedding and spam fries....a good video day! Those look yummy.
"Hm spam doesn't seem healthy... how about we bread and deep frie it?!!"
XD
xD that's my thought process specially with her saying that's too salty -i hate things that are way too salty- i could only think omg just fry some carrot sticks or somethhing .....put it down emmy.... just....stop....eating it hahahahahahaha xD
Didn't you see the bubbles rise when she put the fries in the oil? Those were the souls of dead calories ascending to the heavens...
@@MrAranton HAHAHAHAH! Hope you don't actually believe that though ..
@@juliegreene1844 Don't worry, obvious joke is obvious. Though, considering how stupid of the shit people actually believe is; maybe I should have pointed out I was joking. Nah; let natural selection take its course.
@@jennyc.5999 umm I guess she doesn't have much problem with the unhealthy aspect of it, I mean its spam. But yeah compared to other brands like ma ling spam is so so so salty so it is kinda unpalatable. Purely a taste issue... but then again i'm used to ma ling instead of spam so
I'd love to try this in the air fryer!
I remember when the cans came with a key that you would use to peel the can away from the Spam.
and that was pretty messy !!!
And dangerous, my mom says so!!😨
I remember when I first started watching Emmy. At the time, I'd only ever seen her MRE review videos, so I assumed that "itadakimasu" was a Shinto prayer, intended to ward off botulism.
LMBO
Here in Brazil Apam is called "fiambre" and I love it - my mother use to make it sliced, covered with bread crumbs and deep fried
Nowadays I like do mash it, mix with mayo, mustard and spices (no salt at all as it already got a lot) to make a spread, also delicious
I love spam. The spam musubi is amazing.
XANNN 😂😂😂😂

Krista Johnson lol! Unintended Rick and Morty reference!
You just say what's in your squanch and people will squanch it.
Stephie K. Exactly.
I was wondering if id be the only one to catch it.
We often use spam, sometimes fried with eggs for breakfast. When I open the can, I stick a knife blade in the meat diagonally and just pull it out. And I have never had a problem slicing it with a knife. Easy peasy.
I’m so glad i found your channel! I absolutely love it and I learn so much. You’re amazing
I must try this, I love spam.
Pan fried spam with a friend egg on rice...man I'm hungry.
"Friend egg ;)" How sweet❤
Wait up. That's such a Filipino thing to eat lol
Have you tried fried spam and eggs on ramen?
@@mdlizzy yes, it's good too. Especially with spicy ramen.
People always say spam is a 4 mil or a struggle meal if you haven't looked lately spam is not as cheap as it used to be in 2000. Its almost 5 dollars in some stores. I'm a day one spam eater FOR LIFE
Sweet chili sauce....i bet it would be spectacular
cece osborn that's what I thought she was gonna use!
I grew up in Hawaii watching this made me want a spam musabi so bad 😭😂😂😂😂
That sounds like a college dorm recipe...
I was at first really skeptical of this recipe combo, but then my grandmother tried it when making Southern Mac and cheese with Velveeta, jalepeno and egg. OMG. The best mac and cheese I ever had!
I've tried something very similar to this. Don't knock it til u try it. Yumm
This is the first that I've seen one of your videos, Emmy, and I just have to say that you are delightful! I came for the spam fries, but stayed because you are so awesome! Thanks!
I'd love to see you do breaded pickles in an air fryer! 😋
Oil/spray the knife
I live in Minnesota, in the home town of spam. When you went to smell the spam all I could think about is my drive through town and the smell of fresh Spam in real life. 😂
S.P.A.M. = Stuff Posing As Meat
That being said, it is totally delicious
🤣🤣🤣🤣😉
Squirrel, Possum and Muskrat
I love it with some eggs and biscuits.
Wendy O'dell but with cheese, is also great!!!
make a spam LT = lettuce and tomato yum
When I was at school, many years ago, we were given Spam Fritters! We were so hungry, they were yummy!
Love spam in all it's delicious flavors, bout to fry up some fries, great channel
I watch your videos every night before bed now. So soothing & relaxing. Thankyou for being so genuinely sweet and pleasant.
You made my terrible day much better thanks Emmy
Yummy those look so delicious!!! I love just plain old spam and rice Hawaiian style! So good, even with kimchi it tastes delicious!! Emmy you should make Kimchi fried rice with spam it’s amazing, with a little seaweed also an egg on top!! Amazing! 😊
yes ..I grew up on spam and rice and make it at least once a week
My wife makes that and she makes a really good pineapple fried rice she always uses spam I feel very fortunate to have married my Lovely Chinese wife
Maybe you can make sushi spam. I bet it would be good especially if you don’t like raw fish
Emmy
If you use a different technique it works. (I use this for slicing cinnamon rolls ).
Put the string UNDER the thing
And pullthe strings Upwards and into each other crossing across the blob like you were going to tie the string . It slices it quick and even.
If you ever have a chance to make it to the Minnesota State Fair they have a spam area with all sorts of different foods made with spam. Or if you drive to Austin Minnesota, where it's made, there is the spam museum and that's really cool!
