That riff simply justifies an entire album.
First song, front seat, perfect.
BOW WA BOW WA BOW WA BO-OW-WA-BOH WAH
ye! like OP as fuck this one
@@horselovercock6835 gunman gets a tad repetitive, a driving riff like this one gets much more mileage, especially considering there's a lot more instrumentation on this song in general
@@horselovercock6835 cant help but agree
0 to 30 seconds... wonder what is up with your volume... 30-60 seconds... wonder if this is an instrumental... 60-120 seconds, wonder if this is an opening to a 1980s scifi movie... 1:50... mind blown.
yukimaruzam brother exactly
don't wonder too much ok? it's just that easy.
QOTSA will do that to you lol
to the point. =D
I can confirm this is exactly what happened to me earlier, complete with almost blowing an ear drum
This album sounds like if Josh, Bowie and Prince are fighting for control over the mixing table.
Pinchedi Throw in Gary Numan for those synths too! ;) Banger!
Pinchedi the mixing definitely detracts from the album a bit, I'm sure the sloppiness is intentional but Home's lyrics are always so clever and poignant it's a shame when you can only make out half of what he's saying.
Pinchedi I know right dude? He sounds a lot like David Bowie
A little Elvis as well
no it don't
"Life is hard, that's why no one survives it"...The best lyric I've heard in a long time!! I love it Queens of the Stone age!!!
i think it really shows how cool this band is to upload all new songs on the day the album is released... :-)
Pretty much everyone does it now
They probably won't lose any sales from it, instead people will want the CD to listen to it all the time.
6Rock6God6 It's really sad that that's true.
isn't sad, MAN, music business evolved this way, it still works if the bands know how to play their cards (as QOTSA knows well)...
I've seen most bands do this lately. I still bought the physical album myself as I'm a big fan and enjoy having an actual copy
This song feels much older than it actually is
That's what makes it feel so timeless
"I'm much older than I thought I'd be"
@Emperor Pingu's math channel Every time I listen to this entire album I have always felt like Bowie and Prince are smiling down from heaven
all they songs do
It has got a 70's Led Zeppelin - Trampled under foot - like rythm section + 80's vintage synth + Modern production + QOTSA's genius = Timeless track
Life is hard, that's why no one survives.
Joel Murillo I wanna get a tattoo of that line
That's a lyric! From the song? Do you member it? Member the lyric? From that song? To which this is a comment? Do you member it, grandpa? Member that lyric? That sure was a good lyric, better write it down in the comments. Oh, someone already did that! That sure is one great lyric.

I literally just discovered this comment as the song said it!
Beat dropped harder than R Kelly's pants at a chuck E cheese

I almost broke my neck.
@@nbieghler hahahahahahahaha man
Fucking died laughing, replying from beyond the grave
🤣🤣🤣
QOTSA and Royal Blood are my best discoveries in the past couple years. They put something new on the table. But QOTSA feels more manly, matured, and colorful to me. And of course, let’s not forget the fact RB is made of two guys.
your mom is made of two guys
Well QOTSA is two decades older than Royal Blood, so it makes sense that their sound is more matured. And "coincidentally", Josh Homme was the producer on RB's latest album.
Cool royal blood fact: they do not use electric/acoustic guitars! They use bass guitars instead.
Discovered royal blood a couple years ago, saw them live this year. And I'm just now exploring this band
@@codiejman533 oh man, I remember my first time
The intro is long, but when that riff finally kicks in at 1:50, daaaamn it pays off!
SimenHof its meant to trick you off into thinking the style is the same as the previous album
So what? It's not the same as the last album but it's still a damn f*cking good album!
SimenHof aint saying its bad at all, just saying the intro has deeper meaning to it
Yo, I didn't know what I was in for.
And then the goosebumps. Fuck I love a well-placed riff.
when the intro finished the first time i heard this song, it was one on of the few times that i just stopped and my jaw hit the floor
I was born in the desert, May
Seventeen in seventy-three
When the needle hit the groove
I commenced moving
I was chasing what's calling me
Oh-oh-oh, feet don't fail me now
One foot in the gutter
One in the clouds
Feet don't fail me now
I just gotta move on
Life is hard, that's why no one survives
I'm much older than I thought I'd be
Feel like a fool, yeah, like a dancing fool, yeah
Foot loose and fancy free
Oh-oh-oh, feet don't fail me now
Stand in the gutter
And my head's in the clouds
Feet don't fail me now
I just gotta move on
Push myself to breaking point
It's all I know to do except for lie
I chase the gates and drift ad nauseam
Driven by feelings I cannot hide
To be so civilized,
One must tell civil lies
Me and my gang come to bust you loose
We move with an urgency
Between pleasure and agony, oh oh ah
That's the sound that's calling me
It's calling me
It's calling me
It's calling me
It's calling me
It's calling me
It's calling me
It's calling me
It's calling me
It's
Time to go
We're gon' take it as it comes
Future tense meets middle finger
We took the long way home
Oh-oh-oh, feet don't fail me now
Do whatcha gotta do
And do it now
Feet don't fail me now
I just gotta move on
Thanks for putting the lyrics in the comments man.
Adam Brennan you're the person I came to the comments for thank you
Hey that's stunning listening to the song and reading the lyrics.
Thanks for putting them up
Iconic
Adam Brenan Nice of you posting the lyrics. Thanks alot.
The genius of QOTSA is how well they always connect their latest sound to their desert rock roots. This is a really amazing song and a great album.
1st day: oh, it's mediocore
2nd day: wow that's actually really good
3rd day: This is the best thing in existence
Every Qotsa Album ever.
Ri0t0nD0p3 Thats how I felt with Like Clockwork and Era Vulgaris. Amazing albums just as all Queens albums are.
4th day: I WAS BORN IN THE DESERT, MAY.
So agree
Awesome..... filling the much needed bowie gap!!!! Rock on how
Every album in unique and that is something Queens of the Stone Age does better than any other band ever. They have a high "grow rate" for that reason, and I love it.
I fucking love the buildup intro to this song.
The bridge (3:32) is fucking orgasmic. The harmonized voices, the way the lead guitar just chops up the rhythm and the way the rhythm guitar finds a little groove in between the wall of sound is gorgeous. Honestly an overlooked part of the song.
ambatukam
I wasn't born in a desert, nor in 1973... but I WAS born on May 17th and this is forever my fucking jam now
Bro fuckin same man May 17th best day to be born
Happy birthday! ❤️
we share a birthday!
Villains feels like a common middle ground between Lullabies and Era... melodic, riffy and robotic.
Era is the most underrated album ever.
Era is the gold standard in danceable rock
Sick, Designer, Misfit, 3&7
Feet Don't Fail Me could have been on Era and not missed a beat
Era was also the best concert by far.
I thought that! This Sing looks alike, the best ones in Era.
Now that you mention it, this song reminds me of Robot Rock by Daft Punk.
This new album is fan-fucking-tastic. Cheers, Villains.
You sound like a critic on Rolling Stone lol
You must admit it, there’s no QOTSA song that has one hell of a intro like this song’s!
Definitely a real set up for the album indeed. 🤌
A friend really put me onto this band. A few of their songs had found their way into my YT music curations but i never really listened, sometimes skipped, now i feel the bug latching its teeth into me lol. and this song has me welcoming it lol
@@codiejman533listen to Into the Fade. You’re gonna be fine. Just give in lol
Millionaire has the best QOTSA intro imo
I showed this to my mom and her jaw literally dropped because of how much both the vocals and instrumentals sounded like Bowie. I love this album so much.
their best opener since Millionaire
Turnin on the screw wasn't a bad one ! :P
FSBass Brilliant song and perfect opener that perfectly transitions into sick sick sick ❤️
Better living through chemistry? God in the radio?
Two of my favorites.
None of these are openers !
We were quite a spectacle, weren't we? Quite a spectacle, indeed.
MrMarilynFallOutBoyMansonFan ...Like Clockwork's quote from the albums interview
MrMarilynFallOutBoyMansonFan NP!
yah.
Cazé Nunes Where's Dave?
The synth gives off a lot of Bladerunner and 1984 style vibes, I love it. Very inspiring!
This continues to be my favorite song form this excellent band.
Make it with chu. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I agree! Top shelf shit!

Misfit Love. That's my Theme song for Life.
"When the needle hit the groove, I commenced movin'."
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
yeah bruh he skippt dat needle scene and got movin
probs lots of his mates got lost on the way ...
Killer riff. One can simply not be this good at playing guitar.
Josh's vocals here really remind me of David Bowie.
Or beatlesesque
@Noir Spectre true
He’s always had a Bowie like inflection to me
It's like a mixture of the opening of "I wanna be adored", the entirety of "Trampled Under Foot", and some faint elements of Kavinsky's "Blizzard". I love it all.
One of the best songs ever... perfect for a car ride
Paul's Deli of a long walk
I don't recommend that while driving.
Best Opener Ever. Mad Max + Franz Ferdinand + David Bowie + Led Zeppelin
This is the theme song for my life.
After approximately my 10,000th time listening to this song... definitely my favorite QOTSA track and probably my overall fav!
I never gave Queens of the Stone Age a chance until today... I have been missing out!
If they opened with this song without prior knowledge of it, the first time I seen them, I’d probably pass out the moment I hear the snare in the intro.
Best intro to an album I've heard in a long, long time. Can't wait to see it played live.
We saw it all at Cal Jam down the road from their home town in October. The sound is amazing and we will be talking about this sexy album all over to world for decades!
I can hear the sounds of Ultravox their Quartet album, esp. Serenade in the intro and through the song, though this is a totally different kind of music
It sounds freakin amazing!
If you like good album intros, The Mars Volta's 'Deloused in the Comatorium' has an epic intro/2nd track. That album features Jon Theodore on drums, much like this album. :)
The songs from this album absolutely kill in concert.
This unapologetically drips off of Josh's swagger. Such swag 👌.
Does anyone else feel like the intro and the first couple seconds of the riff feels almost like a rollercoaster? The slow clicking up the chain hill into the descent, where the riff kicks in? This song is amazing.
Oh yeeeaaahh baaby
My pops only likes 70's and some 80s rock and he liked this one. You got the old man!
This riff is pornographic, holy fuck
I'm gonna thrust to the rhythm next time I get laid.
Good luck.
Right?
Hi rachel I am glad you have joined us
Gera Lobo You ain't fooling. I think I just came.. twice.
Best song in the album

@Giacomo Massucco
Definitely agree with you. I like the other songs on this album as well, but this song was the only one that clicked for me.
correct
Finally being able to hear the song from the trailer is amazing.
"Villains" sounds like the beginning of a night out that ended sounding like "...Like Clockwork".
I mean: "...Like Clockwork" and "Villains" sound similar, but the first sound like the end of a party, and the last sound like the beginning of the same party...
Best band of the last 20 years. No doubts
Love love this album. Took a year but this track next to villains, I love the disco rythem to it,that wide sound you get pre chorus, before you hear there gonna bust you out.
QOTSA, Josh has remixed and changed the formula every album. And hats of to him for the balls to do it and not knock off a replica of each album past to keep the same unimaginative loosers happy every time. Not disappointed yet QOTSA. Keep the tracks pkaying.
agree . Josh is awesome . from Kyuss to Queens m colabs with eagles of death metal , plus the dessert sessions .. Josh never fails to please the ears
I'm gonna blast this through the streets when we party after the coronavirus saga is over
I'm afraid you must wait for quite a long time for that
I'm going to blast this through the windows as I storm in and end it myself.
i love to imagine how Josh comes up with his vocal portions. Like sometimes I feel he just busts them out while in the shower or cooking dinner or driving down the road. They're so enthusiastic hahahaha
This is like a blend of 80's pop, 90's rock, and 2000's grunge.
Grunge was dead in the 2000s
Not sure there are words for how good this is.
This one wins it for me on the album, that synth is absolutely deadly!
AA BB tindersticks jizz
"Villains" was my favorite album of 2017 (and one of my favorite albums of the last 20 years). These guys continue to amaze me. Queens of the Stone Age are one of the great bands of the 21st Century. I have been into this band since 1998 and they just keep getting better and better!
That build up to the opening riff is sick.
love the synth at the end...pure 80's vibe ya know..
When qotsa finds a synth
Diego Mireles pretty much
Kinda but they've sometimes been using synths in their previous albums as well.
Dean Fertita has been with them for a while. He's always been great on their albums and the Dead Weather albums, this is the first qotsa album that his keyboards are louder than the drums and guitars.
Diego Mireles. is it nin?
Synths are such a aesthetic in rock.
this gonna be great live
Κωνσταντίνος Κούρτης it's gonna be AWESOME live!
Κωνσταντίνος Κούρτης or an incredible fail...
True me........ It was 😉
Κωνσταντίνος Κούρτης Definitely was
Best opener to an album I've ever heard.
bantom360 you can't be serious, I can think of a dozen in 30 seconds
This is my new early morning track to start off days.
This intro is SO good, I keep coming back to it. Sometimes at work I start hearing this humming, then all of the sudden the drums!
If by any chance this is the actual page of qotsa....Josh Homme you're my hero
one of my favorite qotsa songs. i still get chills when the intro turns into the main riff. a truly wonderful song
Absolute Masterpiece
Bad ass modern Psychedelic rock song by them! I totally dig it!
yes
One of my favourites for building and building and building! It just keeps growing
Honestly just wish the guitars had that classic QOTSA distortion but this album is still an 8.5/10 for me. Great songs and grooves, and lots of riffs to learn!
Crystals accurate af
I saw an interview where Josh said the opening to this song had that distortion but he wanted it to be like a transitional send off - he said he wanted to leave that behind and do something different because he is not good at doing the same thing as the past. I was appreciating and bumming about that at the same time.
I heard a few songs off the album live with Josh using some japanese looking guitar, never the less this song was played in that classic sound. More muffled and more energy. Is that the sound you want?
Shit. Sounds vintage to me, close to vultures. U have a better ear than me.
Wow, there's like a Bowie / Talking Heads sound going on in here. Love it.
Afton Rhodes actually the main guitar riff (with distortion) is similar to the main riff of the song "play that funky music white boy" of 1976.
This song is great!
This song makes me want to open Google Chrome and download Internet Explorer
CynicalWill fucking awesome bro
Gross
So it makes you go insane
CynicalWill Bold, brother. Not sure if me can go dat route...
made my day man. Thanks!
This is my anthem now.
Great album! Can't get enough of it! Thank you!
Queens of the Stone Age= Rock n Roll
All I gotta say is THIS ALBUM FINALLY CLICKED! I kept listening over and over, wondering if it was always going feel underwhelmind and disjointed. Then all of a sudden BHAM. FUCK YES! AND I DON'T GIVE A SHIT... "TURNING ON THE SCREW" FROM "ERA VULGARIS"KICKS ASS. WHOEVER DOESN'T LIKE THAT ALBUM. ITS THEIR LOSS! BAMMMMM!
I feel like Josh make this his autobiographical song because the energy, tension, and nervousness of it personifies him.
I say this like I know him irl lol I don’t
Thank you Martin Streek for introducing me to this band.
INSTANT CLASSIC. QOTSA RULES.
From the second this album dropped I knew it would stand among their best works. I'm so glad to see people catching on, because it didn't seem like a critical success right away. But these tracks are a culmination of a band who have progressed so far yet remained true to themselves over the course of decades. I love this track and I love this album, and I love everyone still along for the ride!
love the sound in this album!
Favorite song from this record.
Oh my god. THANK YOU for putting these up. I am still waiting for my vinyl, but I had to hear this song in full.
I've replayed the intro like 10 times, it's so chilling and epic
my favorite song off this album! I love every song from this band btw..that shows peeps this much!
Brilliant and awesome!
This is just perfection. It's my favorite song on the album. Old gritty feel meets...stranger things?! Amazing.
I don't know how yall do it Queens but after all these years I'm still rocking to your music. Hats off
Infectious through and through
it's stuck in my brain. i imagine being anywhere and having it come over a radio and improve the atmosphere immediately. rush hour would be over in 5:41 if everyone had this playing in their cars.
Sassafras_wot hella proper bro
Queens of the Bowie Age
What a way to start an album! that part at 4:10 is just mind blowing, gave me goosebumps
Perfect album , so many layers of delicious music
QOTSA never disappoint period!!!!! Best band ever Love these guys!!!!!!
Josh has developed a huge affectation in his voice over the years, it's now very rock 'n' roll sounding. Initially it was Elvis but then he moved to a Bowie kinda thing.
I feel like his voice is going. It’s sad, but I’d expect no less from someone who gave 1000000%
Really one of the best tunes they've ever written...DAMN!!!
Just brilliant!
I just love this song
QOTSA is God
No. They're queens.
But, do they slay?
God is The Sun
1:46 .....they slay
with Tool of course
"Life is hard, that's why no one survives" Such a good line and so true
communism will never work :D
Watch out! To the West! It's your friend Hitler!
This song is beautiful
the long intro to the bouncy updown strokes pop mixed with the signature quotsa distortion gets me so hype. its crunchy as fuck i love it.
Essa introdução da musica ė perfeita, uma das melhores do disco!! ♡
Finally bought the album after seeing them live and im kicking myself for not buying it sooner. This song is like a kick in the teeth to get this album going.. Loving every second of villains..
i enjoy this tune so much
thanks qotsa
