    The latest expansion for Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna the Golden Country is pretty great in a lot of ways. But it has one major roadblock holding it back from being truly fantastic.

    Hey guys! Hope you enjoyed this different type of video! Trying to expand both my topics as well as how I make videos so I can hopefully make more for you guys. Sorry I haven't been super active outside streams but I'm looking to get back into a regular swing. Just gonna pre-emp a few comments and questions I'm probably gonna get:
    1. At 3:21 I pretty much used the replies to a tweet BlunZ made about the community system and how he liked it. Me using those tweets and the replies was only a matter of convenience since I could see a decent number of opinions all on the Community system. I'm not taking a shot at BlunZ or calling him out or anything like that. I just happen to disagree with him on this. Me and him are cool :)
    2. Yes more Fire Emblem is coming. There has been a bit of misinformation going around that I've stopped making FE content but that's false. The next video is a review of a certain FE spinoff that longtime subscribers of this channel are probably familiar with >:)
    3. This video was a little more improv'd than my usual videos. I didn't go into this video with a script but rather an intro and a rough outline of what I wanted to say. Thats why you may hear a bit of stuttering here and there. If this is something you'd like to see more of please let me know!

    Side Quest ~ The Golden Community

    I didnt really have a problem as i just did them all as they came. But i get that some people dont finish sidequests immediately. Also the fact that some of these sidequests relate to the base game like how one of them gave Lora the idea to make a orphanage or that Addam has a wife, buy these could have been mentioned alittle in the main story too.

    Thank you for you video
    I love Torna
    However I agree with you on this.
    Forcing me to do the side quests removes the enjoyment of the game for me.
    Two problems with the game i had was the forces side quests and that i wish it was a bigger game .
    I wanted more from Torna < more titans to explore more back story on the charters , etc..
    The game play is the best.

    On my first run through, I had absolutely no problem with the community stuff because I like doing side quests. My problem is that I really really really, want to do a NG+, but the thought of redoing the whole community makes me want to die...

    I enjoyed the side quests but I agree that it was a bad idea to make them mandatory. Similarly, I thought field skills being required to progress the main story in Xenoblade 2 was a bad design choice, even though it never affected me since I had the necessary blades. That being said, the side quest barrier didn't detract me enough to prevent me from loving this game. I was fortunate enough to have been doing quests along the way and also knew about the side quest barrier in advance from my Discord group, but if someone didn't do side quests, I can totally understand them being frustrated with this. It's a terrible design choice yet I love the game to death so I have a hard time judging if this one flaw is enough to justify someone hating the game. It certainly detracts from the pacing if you haven't been doing side quests. But I still felt like that entire ending sequence was worth it even then.

  • @FireFury190
    @FireFury190 5 лет назад +3

    YES! Finally someone who understands. I was literally feeling the exact same thing when I hit the side quest road block. It honestly made Torna my least favorite Xenoblade game. Not saying I hate the game, I still think it's good, but that did ruin my experience with it. If we are considering it a separate game that is. X may have done a similar thing where it you had to complete certain requirement to get to the next chapter, but at least in that game story exploration was the main point of the game because it was open world. The most you had to do was plant enough probes and do a quest relating to a party member.

    Kyle said I should watch this, and I did

  • @0axis771
    @0axis771 5 лет назад

    The funny thing is that I generally love doing sidequests, so I never really realized the issue with the sidequest thing because I did so much, and if I got hit with the complete them, I would be already near the end of requirements, so it was not a problem. But when I think about how I will need to do those quests again, it would be really annoying because I will have to do them, even some that were a bit more bothersome.
    Giving more incentive is definitely a plus. However, you should also have had some side quests also expand further into the story of other parts. For example, go with some things that show an explanation about Mythra preparing Ophion and the Omega Fetter, instead of randomly bringing Ophion up just so that he can be beaten almost immediately. or have an understanding of other story aspects. Or remember in Tantal where they found those ruins where they explained that this was a leftover of the Aegis War or something.
    Or maybe also go about what the 3rd Titan that sank. It was stated that the Aegis War sank THREE Titans, but I only saw two.

    tbh, literally whenever the community prompts popped up I only needed like two quests, but I do see what you mean a lil. Maybe if the quests had a reason to actually happen it would help with the pacing. And I really did get an affinity chart vibe from it and well building a community since everyone knew each other, so I appreciated for that as well as the little character moments at the ends of them. Also quests could be for afinity chart nuts because every character's one way or another is locked behind the community.

    First Time watching, 2:07 into the video- ... wait, WHAT! Hold on! HUH? Ok, I knew about getting community to level 4, and I thought that was what you were gonna be talking about, but at some point, you had to get it to Level 2? I NEVER encountered that when I played! What the home for infinite losers!?...

    • @thedoorman6940

      After Watching the video- Oh, ok... no wonder this sounded unscripted, cause it WAS! I gettcha... also I don't mind how the community was handled in Torna. I hear your complaints, I get them, and I won't deny they're a problem, which is why if they ever bring this back for another Xenoblade game(and they should, cause not only does it give a sense of, well community, but it let's you know when side quests are available, that way your not going from town to town seeing if there are quests available. And keep in mind, I don't mind that part either, but the community makes things convenient in that regard. Also like Xenoblade 1, i you highlight a person it tells you WHERE they are, so your not constantly walking around looking for people. Anyhoo), I'd say just don't make it story required, cause not everyone's like me in where I'll do quests and talk to people as I go to the point where I completely skip past the knowledge I had to raise the community TWICE, then, even after all that, I still went out of my way to raise it further cause I wanted to play and see more. Cause the flavor text of some of these quests is awesome, stand out is the cooking contest. Did you do the cooking contest Max? You should do the cooking contest, it's awesome.
      Anyhoo, point is I disagree, but I see where your coming from.

    I usually hate doing side-quests but I actually liked it in Torna. I thought a lot of them were funny or interesting and it made me feel more connected to the NPCs. Though I do agree that the NPCs should’ve had more importance to them. Like they could have helped you in the final boss (bring his HP to half like Botw or something else)

  • @shulkash8799
    @shulkash8799 5 лет назад

    The community system was the most interesting part of torna for me , because:
    A. It explains parts of the world, like naming the waytree, the relations between gormott and Mor Ardain.
    B. They have to happen; like the red pollen orbs quest to explain why there extinct and the possible formation of argentum and gramps debt of 1,000,000 gold that he has in the main game
    C. The main character gain experience from it that affects them in the main game.
    I understand that people may not like it and they are in titled to their own opinions.

  • @fathm4623
    @fathm4623 5 лет назад

    While I do like the system, in my opinion there should have only been one block, being the first one, and only to level three.
    The first block made sense and added anticipation to Malos' attack, while the second one killed the finale.
    So yeah, have it go to level three so you are forced to be blocked (I was already level 2 by the time I was blocked) and then I'd be happy with it

    i didn't go back to Torna after completing level 4 and sticked to main XC2 because the sidequests are optional. Heck i'm even doing NG+ on the main game because it's out of my own free will(and Nia's sundress) so i'm sorry but i hope that "community" system burns in hell!

    • @thedoorman6940
      @thedoorman6940 5 лет назад +1

      I mean, it's not that the community feature itself is bad, the issue is just don't have it be important for story progression. At worst, maybe have it be for an alternate ending or something. As it stands, it's not all that bad, especially if you tackle sidequests and talk to people as you progress through the game. Like me, I never knew you had to raise it twice in order to progress, I only encountered the one time, the level 4 requirement. I realize not everyone is me and won't do that, and it still doesn't dispute that it IS an issue, and I guess that last part is digressing to my main point which is... Community isn't that bad of a system, having it be story important IS, that's the big difference

    As someone who apparently beat this before everyone else, I was complaining about this padding since day 1. Padding completely put down my enjoyment for a good while and made me question why the fuck I was even doing this. This padding ruins pacing, ruins fun, and ruins the storyline. Where in the fuck does helping some random ass woman come in when Malos is going to blow up Torna in like 2 hours? This "game" doesn't need this shit at all. It's a 12~15 hours expansion to a 100 hour game, it's wholely unnecessary, the side quests are called SIDE QUESTS for a reason. None of these should have been forced at all. Side Content has the word "Side" in it for a reason. This is 1990's RPG design that should have stayed in the grave where it belongs. Padding is never good game design, no matter what.

  • @soupahmario5869
    @soupahmario5869 5 лет назад

    Yes padding is bad and yes the community level should have been 3 instead of 4 but
    The sidequests are so DREADFULLY short that I just figure there's no point in even complaining. Most of them are good as well so even more whats_the_point.jpg .
    AT MOST out of my 30 hour playthrough it took up 5.
    That's barely anything.
