You are so right. I bought a gearless hub motor. A 1000 watt 48 volt. came with controller, brake levers. About 400 bucks Canadian! I pulled apart the controller, had 60 volt capacitors, so I upvolted the battery to 52 Volts for extra power and range. It goes about 50 MPH. The only problem is it weighs about 20 LBs Is A 20 Ah 52 volt, at max charge is just under 60 volts. Just about 600 dollars Canadian. I mounted it on the rear rack that throws of the centre of gravity. I need to come up with a way to mount it as a down tube so I dont keep dumping the thing on me when mounting it.
The prices have to seriously come down. I can buy a motorcycle for less then all this ( and don't forget the kits listed do not include the battery $$$$ )
I cannot trust a channel that reviews stuff they don't understand. Saying the Bafang has no battery and is only powered by pedaling, makes ZERO sense. It may not come with one, but it sure as heck needs one. Please do your research before putting out a review that someone else might want to count on.

the Bafang does require a battery. Their promotional video doesn't show the installation of a battery because one isn't included in the kit, but it IS required.
I can vouch for the voilamart - got 1000 watt , and a Yose power battery , the only thing I regret is my 1995 old mountain bike was too heavy for that wheel and couldn't replace the brakes, didn't match the gears. Bright side you can completely not pedal up hills on throttle mode. never used pedal assist but so good up hills.

Disc brakes might be easier to pop off and you will need to make a nut and bolt mechanism to keep the axles in place . The motor wheel is awkward at the front 🤣. The battery is easy ,to drill into some holes on your bike and slot in . Finding space on your bike for the kit like the controller is harder to install.

Oh, I don't know, I think it was worth it. Met up with an old buddy last year in Central park who also had a custom build that was based on a BBS02. He had told me how fast he had gotten it up to. So we put it to the test. BBSHD vs BBS02. Lets just say the results were rather astounding, in my favor. Especially on the hills. He had heard of the BBSHD but did not think it was much different in power than the 02. And he had never seen one run before in person. He has since reassessed what he knows about it.
I've got a BBSHD 100mm version on my 2015 Specialized Fatboy! Running a 52V battery, and it hauls!. Getting around 60-65km/h up here in Ontario! Amazing motor!

For roads and general forest trails yes the rear or front hub is good enough, but for anyone wanting to take Thier bike off-road the bafang wins hands down. And it will require a battery, no torque sensor just pedal assist and or throttle assist. These are for old bikes anyone with money can just purchase a new ebike if they have a spare 4k to 12k sitting doing nothing 😂
So I have bought an e-bike cargo bike from Rad Power Bikes. What I like is that I can get off the road faster, therefore there is less likelihood that I will get run over by a car. Where normally I might have to ride my bicycle at ten or 15 mph uphill, I can maintain 20 mph, meaning less time on the road with cars. This bicycle also has a crumple zone in the rear. If i can find other people who want to ride, I can offer motor pacing as I have the Conestoga wagon setup. I do have a 29er steel frame that I am thinking about a bunch of things with, thank you for your video!!!
What I don't like of some of the Wheel Hub motors are the ones fitted for 700cc or less than 2 inches wide no matter wheel size. It is the extreme speed of pressure which puts a lot of stress on skinny tires when riding over 24mph and up. The Standard width is 3 to 4 inches wide fat tires as the 2 inches to 2.25 is minimal width. Anything less is too be narrow of handling and facing high pressure from speed to terrain.
I ride with 2.1 to 2.25 wide 26inch tires of speeds at 40mph tops. What I notice of my tires of front are always getting deflated to a point they do lose contain after a while. I've learned of e bikes over 500 watts all need a standard of the heavy duty tube tires besides a tougher tire. Even a tire Guard strap should be included on f a standard. Those Euro , Sur Ron,vtypes of e bikes are the standard but expensive. For US low budget riders of lower end e bikes, we must add or change out certain parts and the tires is s always the start due to getting deflated tires at a constant.

You can fit a shifting device that senses shifting and cuts the motor. Had one and binned it. I have hydraulic brakes you can plug in magura e bike hydraulic brakes or nothing at all. You just need to learn to use the system
all motors over 500w are illegal in almost all North America (few exceptions areas accept 750w, no more).. if used only for off-road in the field, most areas have no rules there (except national parcs).. but who's never use the ebike on the streets?? ..be aware of the regulation in your area before to spend in it!!
I unfortunatly have a nearly 9000 dollar, 24 pound, carbon fiber suspension bike. And none of these are a good fit for me. It would be better to start from scratch. And iwouldn't get any of these.
If you can afford a 9000$ carbon bike you will be better off with an e-bike that is a match for it. It will cost you. These kits are good for their price but not exactly spectacular. Happy Cycling ;-)

Should stay away from front hub motor kits, it's really sketchy to pull the entire weight of the bike plus the rider from the dropouts of the front fork. Could even destroy the head tub. If something fails it could be catastrophic.

Bafang is actually good, if not the best of them all, mid drive ebikes are more preferred to hub motor ebikes

Something else to have if you're riding an ebike is an nta helmet like xnito or bern hudson, most bicycle helmets aren't safe for ebike riders

Ever heard of road bikes? They do like 60mph on tires and rims that are 1.8inch wide.

Mid drives are louder than hub motor to me. And hub motors are the choice for top speed as mid drives is for climbing hills

Any Power Assist Kit that doesn't come with waterproof connectors cannot be considered a top kit. Wait till it rains & you get water ingress.
