The suicide scene is because Walt feels like he’s getting in way too deep at that point. Hank getting shot, his family being affected, now he just secured a yearly contract which takes him even further into the criminal world and he’s losing control over everything
hey kiwi, this retrospective series is the best ive ever seen, wish they came out more regularly. make them as long as you like, I love how long these are
Hey buddy, I just want you to know I watch these from start to finish and it is so worth all the effort you put into these, thank you.... thought provoking and I love these shows just like you and the others so it makes it even more satisfying.
The scene in episode 8 when Mike goes in and finishes off Leonel has so much more context to it when you watch Better Call Saul and you see that both the Salamanca twins threaten mikes granddaughter and daughter in law.
I can’t explain why your ranking/retelling of the season is so enjoyable to be. You just talk normally and give your opinion but it’s done in such a good way I want to hear more. Now I gotta wait for season 4
Gus being gay is a retcon added in better call Saul. In this season (3), Gus was portrayed as a family man with grown kids no longer staying at home. Calling Gus gay was taken as an insult that Hector makes during Marco's recollection in their childhood. This was placed deliberately ambiguous but the fact is Cartel members NEVER allow business with gays
Him being portrayed as a family man was a deliberate manipulation of Walt. When Jesse comes over for dinner there are no toys around the house or mention of kids as Jesse doesn’t have any. The cartel dealing with a gay man makes more since when you realize he is their biggest earner and they also punished him for that in the biggest possible way by killing his lover. This is also how Gus is able to get away with lots of conflicts with the cartel, as he is a huge earner and this makes him more valuable alive. The cartel cares about money first over anything else, and Gus is lots of money.
Adding on to that, I would see Gus being confirmed as gay being a confirmation of fan theories rather than a retcon, as him being gay or not does not change his character at all in BB.
Totally agree, one of the more intriguing aspects of the show was Skylar and Marie’s relationship. Skylar protected Marie from the consequences of stealing and was ready to, if not flush the whole relationship, says it will ‘never be the same without an apology’. There’s a scene where Walter, who knows Skylar is freezing out her sister, gently chiding about ‘standing by family and what would you do to me?’ She gives an enigmatic smile, ‘You probably don’t want to find out.’ Yet, when the circumstances present to protect Hank, Skylar DOES protect Walter. There’s many hints as to Walt’s background, making fun of his mother, his fears of being seen as ‘weak or needy’ and that great scene between him and Walt Jr who tells him he’d prefer Walt as he seems now ,’than how fake you’ve been all year.’ It’s an amazing series that makes you want to know the backstories of characters who are just a story😉
i always read the car scene in Kafkaesque as one of the only moments where everything that Walt has gotten himself into overwhelms him for a moment. feeling trapped by Gus and trapped by Skyler, for a brief and desperate moment he lets go entirely and puts his fate in the hands of chance. he wants to be in control of everything even his own death, but for a moment he relinquishes control so for a second he doesn’t have to wrestle with the responsibility of that. he can’t fully let go though, and at the last second he wrenches back the control. he can’t help it. there’s a similar scene in bojack horseman that has completely different vibes. would be cool to compare and contrast the two
It's also very similar to the based-on-the-true-story of Karen Silkwood, a nuclear fuel plant whistleblower in the late 70's. Her death happens just as she has all the proof she needed that she had stashed away in some barn in a backroad and the moment where Walt opens his eyes is filmed exactly the same when Mrs. Silkwood, a chemist too, who was so sick with constant radiation poisoning because of the lack of safety concerns at the plant she worked at, yet still dedicated to her cause, gets t boned, and in the movie the way Walt opens his eyes in total fright at the last second before turning to safety is filmed exactly the same way, except as this is real life and some federal agency, the murky kind like the NRC likely had NSA or crooked FBI (FBI types are a lot more law & order and by the books, not so much at other agencies that do commit violence, especially on whistleblowers who are working on telling the whole country that most nuclear fuel factories are unsafe and people working at those places even turn off the leak alarms because they happen all the time and are just an annoyance, meanwhile the chemists in the labs making the nuclear power plant fuel get sick and contaminated to ungodly levels. Anyways, I'm telling this because it's a great movie from the , played by a very young Meryl Streep who gets the same eyes of terror as Walt from that angle, but just before her death.
Also spoiling us... i mean thank god i watched breaking bad and better call saul fully, id hate to be spoiled by kiwi's videos... he does tend to foreshadow important events, not that i mind though. I still love kiwi's videos tho
Dude, these videos are insanely good. Amazingly in-depth analysis, Like seriously this is some insane dedication. My favourite breaking bad videos on RUclips honestly. Insanely hyped for The s4+5 vids.
HOLY SHIT, i just happened to type in “Breaking Bad tier list” to see if you uploaded this part and here it is posted almost an hour ago. Insane timing.
Another nice details I noticed about 3x12 and 3x13: Mike refers to Gus as "the boss", which Walt mistakes for Saul because he doesn't know yet that Mike works for Gus too, so Mike clarifies it with "My boss. Your boss." Later in the laundromat, Walt says that Mike shouldn't kill him yet because "your boss is gonna need me", calling back to how Mike referred to him, maybe even taunting him on purpose with that.
Escobar was caught by Colombian forces, the Search Bloc, with U.S.A's assistance primarily from Army's Centra Spike, aka Intelligence Support Activity, and the DEA.
I must admit, the final episodes of Season 3 are very well made with quite slow moving action in episodes 8-11, but it quickly accelerates in episodes 12-13 when we witness the deaths of around 8 people in just those two episodes. It also built a great rivalrly dynamic beetwen Walt and Gus that will have a huge impact ion Season 4, as both of them will try to get the upper hand on one another and it will also include incredibly brutal and dirty deeds. I also loved to see a younger Walt and Skyler in the flashback of episode 13, showing us a glimpse into their relationship years before the action of the series started, when Walt was still a respected scientist, although in that moment he was already thinking about settling in a much more luxurious house. Those grand ambitions of Walt in my opinion came from Walt's regrets of leaving Gray Matter and his feeling that he needed to somehow compensate this deed that he saw as a wrongdoing.
This analysis is so incisive, Vince truly captures lightning in a bottle with this series. It’s incredibly fun to watch mindlessly and if you really wanna go down a symbolic rabbit hole the show gives you plenty of reason to do so
"of course im still here, where else can i go? what are you guys doing? i need to go home i have kids to take care of, my husband has got to be/(is worried? idk this word). you don't give me enough money, a guy died infront of me (i'm unsure the exact wording she used for the guy/s dying)" my mandarin rusty but thats what i got from 1:41:12 lol
I could never understand the hate that "The Fly" gets. It is just another episode based on Walt and Jesse interaction while they cook like "Four Days Out" Everyone loves the later, why not the former? And also "Half Measures" is my personal favorite episode. So I am particularly looking forward to you going thru that one. Thanks.
Ive always interpreted his near death car crash as a combination of incredible stress, lack of sleep, and exhaustion from restraining heisenberg from Gus in that moment. Its not a meaningful attempt at suicide, he genuinely almost just dies in a exhaustion car crash like how Tony Soprano almost does.
Can't believe I found your retrospectives this Monday, and you posted part 2 of your Season 3 two days ago, after a few months' hiatus. Such luck! The fact that I now have to wait for Season 4 is gruesome though, since the retrospectives have been absolutely amazing. Keep up the fantastic work!
I honestly started watching these because I just wanted long boring videos to make noise for me to fall asleep to, but these videos have sucked me into watching breaking bad, I love these retrospectives
So, when Gus said 'no children', there would've been two outcomes initially. Either they kill Tomas, or leave him be. It could've been expected that they would kill the kid, as Kiwi said. The beauty of the win-win here, is no matter the outcome, Gale would become the better option instead of Jesse. The dealers would die either way, Jesse makes it clear he's unreliable, a risk, or just dies in the process. In both outcomes with Jesse, Gus is given reason to remove Jesse from the board, despite Walt's protests.
Im glad you pointed out leonel crawling to walt being similar to their first scene. That gave me an idea. Back then they were crawling to worship the saint of death. Perhaps the show writers are comparing walt to the saint of death?
I just realized that macro shot of the fly standing on top of the light really reminds me of Jimmy painting the “O” on the sign for cell phone store… 53:20
I love your videos. Your recaps are so captivating. One minute I'm watching you talk about Fly, and the next it's Jesse shooting Gale. Your videos are never boring!
Walt would’ve liked Gale if his ego wasn’t so big, you can tell Walt hated being around him due to him being just as smart as him due to the look he gives when Gale says they can be friends and how Walt takes the first opportunity to demean him
Native Mandarin speaker here they say: Chow: 鹏你还在吗?(peng are you still here?) Peng: 我当然还在呀! 我还能去哪里呀? 诶你们在干什么呀?我--我还得赶回家呢。我还有小孩子要照顾,我老公也得急死了。你钱付不够,我前面死了个男人耶!(Of course I'm still here! Where would I even go? What are you guys doing in there? I-I need to hurry home. I still have a kid to take care of, my husband also is worried sick. You don't pay enough. A man died in front of me!)

The true victim in Breaking Bad is the neglected vegetable trays at the meetings. Crudités need love, too!
Did Dr. Oz write this?
hey kiwi, this retrospective series is the best ive ever seen, wish they came out more regularly. make them as long as you like, I love how long these are
35:38 I love how Skyler says that she ''learned from the best'' when Walt was literally the worst liar ever when it came to Skyler
😂😂
I hate how bad they made us feel about Gale dying, even though he's a manufacturer of illegal drugs, he seems like a nice guy
OH what a pleasant surprise on a gloomy, rainy night! I've been looking forward to this!! Can't wait to watch. Thank you!
Patiently waiting on that season 4 retro
BABE WAKE UP, KIWI UPLOADED

The man, the myth, the Kiwi
I had to do a double take and make sure that RUclips wasn't pushing part 1 on me. What a great discovery to see part 2!
I never clicked on a notification so fast, you always show up when i least expect, Kiwi. Love your content ❤

Calling Gus gay was taken as an insult that Hector makes during Marco's recollection in their childhood. This was placed deliberately ambiguous but the fact is Cartel members NEVER allow business with gays
Given so many cartel members are known to be religious, I’d guess there would be a problem with a gay person being in their business most of the time.
With Walt wanting 3 Children, you can almost add Jesse as a surrogate or adopted son.
56:45 after Jessie hits Walt with the fly swatter, Walt finds a raisin on the floor. Where did the raisin come from? Thats another contamination
