You have only opened the door Dani. Welcome to the world of Steely Dan. Stay on the journey ... you will be rewarded.
Thank you for doing some Steely Dan. Possibly the most talented musicianship of any mainstream band ever with their jazz influence.
*probably*
one of the GOAT bands, no doubt.
And Toto !
Im not sure any one will ever top Donald Fagen’s mixing in the sound room! Their (Donald Fagen & Walter Becker) mastery of sounds, lyrics and session musicians is tops in the business! Takes them months to produce an album.....not days or weeks!
Lovely of you to slip that term "mainstream" in there. Tells me all about your priorities.
Steely Dan were great. They were a combination of mellow, easy-listening, jazz pop-rock. They were unique and had a sound and style all their own.
Steely Dan is a very deep rabbit hole, one of the deepest in all of music. Their production values are extremely high, and their musicianship is even higher. All SD videos should be listened to using a lyric video because their lyrics are smart, adult and clever. Occasionally too clever. Try "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Hey Nineteen", "Peg", "Dirty Work", "Reelin' In The Years", "Black Cow", "Kid Charlemagne", "Aja", "Deacon Blues", "Josie" and only about 100 more.
This song is a great representation of Steely Dan's music. Smooth grooves with great guitar(although in this one it's actually a sitar). "Josie", "Chain Lightning", "Bodhisattva", "Peg" "Reeling in the Years" and "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" are other smooth grooves.
Steely Dan had many many great songs! This was their first big hit. ♥️🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦
There's nothing easy about listening to Steely Dan
True! But, I keep listening to them after 45+ years. I luv them.
The music could be smooth and polished, but the subject matter is usually sleazy. I read a review of Steely Dan that once said, "Steely Dan becomes popular any time a coke scene emerges."
@@martyslazenger935 There's some truth to what you said. haha
@@martyslazenger935 Their name itself says, "You have been forewarned."
Steely Dan is your favorite band's favorite band.
I remember this (and all the other Steely Dan hits) when they came out all those years ago. Listening to this one again I think it may be the best rock song ever written.
I might just agree to that!!
Great mellow jazz/rock song.
"Hey Nineteen", and "Deacon Blues" are must hears!
Good take on this song Dani! always liked Steely Dan. I remember taking their reeling in the years 45 RPM to my eighth grade dance.
Try Deacon Blues or Aja from Steely Dan.
That. Guitar. Almost. Had. An. Egyptian feel. To it. Amazing🙊🙉🙉🙊
I have LOVED this Song since 1974
Nice, nice, selection, dear. This band is awesome, with class, taste and style, and very groovie, as you said. The best for me of any jazz-funk oriented american band, a truly treasure, an oldie from 1972. Great, golden US musical era.
I have some Steely Dan CDs in my car that I groove to while driving, making any drive more enjoyable.
It’s so funny to me that there are musicians who dissect Steely Dan by composition, and then lyricists who see something so different and contrary. It’s rare to see anyone comment on Steely Dan while putting both together.
"The human condition". Well said. Much of Steely Dan is contagious, funky, jazzy grooves juxtaposed against dark, satirical, humorous, often biting and cynical commentary on, as you say, the human condition. This was the very first track on their first studio album, when the 2 primary members Donald Fagen (vocals/keys) and Walter Becker (bass) were just 24 and 22. You've got another 80 great SD songs to explore. The musicianship, engineering, complexity and attention to detail is impeccable. Enjoy the ride.
Simply incredible group. Love em’. They have tons of incredible songs.
Steely Dan/My Old School
That sitar solo is by Denny Dias who also played lead guitar in Reelin In The Years with Skunk Baxter.
Elliot Randall did the guitar solos on Reelin' In The Years.
This is from their first album. Every album gets more interesting in my opinion. And I LOVE the first album!!! They keep growing. The song writing, the production value.... just grow and grow! KEEP GOING!
Steely Dan/Dirty Work
Dani thanks for doing this reaction. I have not heard this song in a very long time.
Yes ma’am. Now this is what I’m talking about.Steely Dan. Thank you Miss Dani. WOW mate. Love’em . Old time groovy vibes for me no problem. How cool was the guitar riff? Einstein always said, What’s the height of insanity? Repeating the same stupid mistakes and expecting a different outcome? Yes/No? Great choice all round mate.👍🇦🇺☮️🤪😁✌️❤️
You are entering the jazz/funk/rock wormhole that is Steely Dan.
I first got to know this song in 1983 when a band called 'Club House' released a mashup medley with Michael Jacksons 'Billie Jean'.
Yes hello it's me again hey there Steely Dan yeah he goes back a long way but I really like to hear some of that Supertramp hide in your shell from Canada Toronto Scarborough Ontario TCB from Carl Supertramp Garnett God bless be safe
Yes hello it's me again hey there yeah I just noticed you're on my phone anyhow thank you very much and keep up the good work better than what they're doing on the hospitals from Canada Toronto Scarborough Ontario God bless be safe Carl Supertramp Garnett TCB hide in your shell Supertramp song
Steely Dan writes incredibly well crafted and briliantly engineered songs with great attention to detail. Played by some of the very best musicians in the industry. I grew up with their music in the 70s. You should react to songs like FM, Dirty Work, Reeling in the Years, Rickie dont lose that number, Fire in the Hole. That barely touches the surface because they have so many great songs.
Please not the 70s!
This is one of their two very early hits. They were a "regular" band with 5 or 6 members. Over the next five years, Becker and Fagen would drop them all, stop playing live, and go with session musicians as they moved away from r&r and into jazz. By 1976, "Steely Dan" was something entirely different--and better.
Dani, hope you enjoyed irrefutably one of the best (and most underrated) guitar solos in rock history. Then for good measure, the boys threw in some kick ass keyboards in the end. Steely Dan's the man :P
A good place to begin your Steely Dan journey. Founding member Denny Dias plays the electric sitar solo.
Steely Dan is top drawer excellent music.
Steeley dan had a ton of great stuff.
A Jazz Funk Rock vibe.
That's one of my favorite steely Dan song's it takes me back to when I was a teenager in chicago going to Montrose Harbor & doing fishing with my friend's & family & listening to Am top 40 radio yes the small transitor radio's we lot lot's of fun back then love the music it's catchy ya know?
The song AJA from the album AJA is my favorite Steely Dan piece.
Their Aja album is a good one to check one. They changed their sound to a chill unique jazzy rock sound!
It's been said that Steely Dan is your favorite band's favorite band.
Great song Han number well Thank you for the video take care
THE Album is Brilliant
So cool!
The music was great to hear to.
Smooth would be a great description Dani. Flash back for sure.
Such awesome musicianship. Might want to look up the name Steely Dan (William S. Burroughs) Naked Lunch.
like Steely Dan one of their best songs :)
Pick a Steely Dan album at random, drop the needle anywhere on either side, and I'll bet a nickel that it will make you happy. Best. Leo.
Only a fool would say that, of any other band. But with the Dans that's the undisputable truth! Well said, man!
INSANE bought this album at 13
Just released
Aw, glad that this video brought back that memory for you!
This Song is a dark dark Song
You have graduated into greatness. Electric sitar. Plastic organ. History.
Good song Boogie Dani!
You are so cute! And pretty too. Also, good take on the song. Love ya.
HI Dani, I am leaving you a link today that may very well bring you to tears, buy most likely because you are rolling around the ground laughing. lol. This is an 80's all female rock group . They were never a really big group , but actually were a fairly successful "B" rock band, did national tours and had their songs played on MTV ( that was when MTV actually played music videos lol ). You have seen the photos of girls with 80's hair and the Meme " The wind never had a chance " lol That would be this. I know you get thousands of request links in the comments and I am hopeful you will just drop test this for 30 sec or so. It is hysterical today. BTW, these girls are now in the early 60's and would probably be about your Grandmother age. I don't know if you would ever do a reaction on this, but if you did. I would guess the comments would be hysterical also.. We love you Dani. Thanks for doing these. With love from Florida. They were called Vixen ( The Wind Never Had A Chance !! ) ruclips.net/video/mQOmDUnt8Hs/видео.html
I have been listening to this album for nigh on 50 years. I agree with all the comments--especially about the "Rabbit Hole." Promise me you'll get some more Steely Dan albums. They are not like John Lennon said, "Bigger than Jesus," but, unlike the Beatles, they do have a niche following which I'm sure you will discover. Stay safe.
You need to react to "Hey 19" and "FM (no static at all)" by Steely Dan. You'll love "Hey 19".
👍
A reaction to " reeling in the years" from the same album
I'd think you would like their song Black Cow.
This is song about addiction

One of my favorites ❤. You should check out the band Carolina Chocolate Drops. Cornbread and Butterbeans
Unmmnm. Nothing near Steely Dan style.
@@realcoolbreeze totally different music. I'm trying like crazy to get someone to react to them.
Steely Dan finally. Next to Elvis this band is my favorite!!
Don’t really know this song, very chilled though. I only know stuck in the middle with you by Steely Dan
That is not from Steely Dan bro.

Little girl. Steely Dan is behind you're time and WAY over you're head. They are real people playing real musical instruments. The color of the album cover means nothing. Listen to the song without stopping it, then comment. My thumb is down on this one.
