    Will today be the day Counsell gets a clue? Neris has an era right at 4, has blown 5 saves, and let's on a baserunner in 90 percent of his appearances as a CLOSER. No that isn't exaggeration due to a chip on my shoulder. 9 games out of 10 Neris cannot get a 1/2/3 inning. enough counsell. Enough

      👆this...the dude is LUCKY he doesn't have 15 blown saves, which he legitimately could based on giving up so many hits/walks.

      As tough as it is to watch him close at times. You have to remember he s not a closer. He s a set up guy for the 7th and 8th inngs. That was always his role when he was in Houston. And he absolutely shined in it.
      He s only closing now cuz the cubs don’t have anyone else to close out games. They don’t have that automatic shutdown closer this year. What they have is a lot of good set up guys in the pen.

    • @brutalpinecone28

      I agree Neris is far from an ideal closer, but literally who else should we trust more than him? Wicks, Wesneski, Alzolay, Almonte, Little and Brewer are all hurt.

    • @phild326
      @phild326 25 дней назад +1

      @@brutalpinecone28to close out games, absolutely none of the above you just mentioned. Those are the worst. Wicks and Wesneski are starters not relievers. Wesneski came outta the pen only cuz the starting rotation was filled up and cubs had no choice but to bring him outta the pen.
      The only ones left are the rest of the set up guys. Miller, Smyly, Lopez, Hodge, Neris, Merryweather. Out of those Neris than Miller.
      Cubs actually have one of the best bullpens in the league since the All star break with that core.
      But hopefully the cubs will sign an automatic closer during the offseason. And as bad as Neris has been at times, that’s his first blown save since June 7th. Believe it or not.

      When he’s not on the IR his bat is definitely above replacement and earlier he was having an MVP kinda year, but then he tweaks his groin or hammy and takes a month or more off and it takes him over a month to get back in it. I’d love a full season of a healthy Suzuki for once.

      I've read most of these comments and I agree on neris but it's up to the front office to fix the problem at the trade all of baseball stated they don't understand why the cubs didn't make up there mind if there were all in on buyers or sellers also how different would have this game could have been if Hendricks and the middle infielders would have properly executed those double play there's blame all around not just neris that balk call was at best questionable cause but the 3rd base umpire knew he balked

      @@nenecastillo7497 I hope you watch baseball 24/7. This was never a ws contender last year or even on April 1st this year. As bad as we may want a ws contender every year, it does not work that way. They surprised everyone last year by winning 83gms and missing the playoffs by one gm last year.
      They were hoping to build of that this year. Last year they had a great offense and this year it’s essentially the exact same team. And they did a complete 180 this year offensively. Nobody predicted that. Not to mention the mediocre defense at the beginning of the year from 2 gold glovers. And Alzolay was a terrific closer last year. When they signed Neris, he was supposed to be the set up guy along with merryweather. Alzolay messed that up by blowing saves left and right and then out for the year so we were left w/out a closer. Had no choice but to bump up Neris to that spot which he sucked also. Glad they released him.

He s a leadoff bat with a better avg , way better speed steals lots of bases. The line up is perfect. He should just flip flop Horner to leadoff and Happ 6th. The lineup is much deeper that way.
