Ok ill say it, its a Chevy! Light weight p/u. Glad to hear your dad has a real truck!😊 I have a diesel. Its perfect. You know i was pulling your chain on the Chevy!
Helwig has some great products out there. I did a ride rite helper air bag kit on my 2010 F250 with a 38’ 5th wheel. Worked perfectly. Put the schrader valves on either side of the rear license plate. Ran 5 psi empty and 55 to 65 when loaded. Felt like stock when empty and eliminated the bucking when towing.
Be prepared to make adjustments, which you already mentioned in the videos. The other thing to remember or consider is to check your main leaf packs after each long tow. Look for miss alignment and distortion of the longest leafs.
I have used them on multiple vehicles in the past. Currently I put beefer rear shockes on my ford van and added heave duty air bags inside the coil springs. The bags are air and adjustable.
When I picked up my 17 Titan XD diesel, I was lucky/fortunate enough that the previous owner put bags on the rear. All I have to do is just hook my portable compressor to them when needed. It’s set up to to 5th wheel and “bumper” towing with a 4pin flat and round plug with a trailer brake inside
Good video just a fyi it’s always a good idea to replace the u bolts when you remove them because they stretch and get twisted easily and for a few bucks have peace of mind
I had put on a set of RoadActive Suspension helper springs on my 19 Ranger. I don’t really tow all that much with it. Normally I’ll tow my camper with my 07 F250 but the camper is right at the tow rating for the Ranger, as long as tanks are empty with the bike in the back. It definitely made a difference the two times I had to move the camper with the smaller truck so shop could figure out why the 7way in the F250 wasn’t working.
Sounds good as for your dads tri glide I have arthritis in my wrist and I am having the Muller power clutch installed and what I have been told by people who have it it makes pulling the clutch real easy .It may be something to look into for your dad .
Pulling that rig, on your next ruck, consider a dually. Amazing difference when pulling large trailers. I am partial to the F-450 because the turning radius is so much better than the 350 (450 has a wider front axle). However, GM and Dodge dually trucks are great too!
I wanted an F450 when I bought Margie but couldn't find one. This was the only 1 ton for sale in South Florida at the time. When we move and I don't have limitations anymore I'll definitely get a dually.
Use these help springs on my 22 Silverado 1/2 ton. Huge difference.. I’m the guy who pulls a 22 heartland fuel 287 toy hauler w/ half ton.. 37ft long 102 wide body and tall as hell and camper is 14,000 lbs loaded down and we full time as wife is a travel nurse.. long story on why I pull with. 1/2 ton, carefully…. Buying a 2024 3500 diesel. Not sure of brand yet this winter. But, But there is a bridge in Brunswick GA on 95 that will have your rig doing the worm going down the road. Could be the south Brunswick river maybe.. but north or south it’s bad.. fyi; yes pulling this rig with a 1/2 ton truck is dumb.. blah blah blah.. calm down haters..
From someone with a CDL and a 35' 10,000# toyhauller. Just slow down! I pull my camper with a F-150 that was ordered with the tow package. Yes I'm at my trucks limit however I have never had any issues, I've pulled a couple of 400 mile days with no issue at all. Check tire pressure on truck and trailer, keep your speed around 65mph or less and you will have thousands of happy miles pulling your camper.
I run about 70, but never faster. I run 65 when I get out of Florida. Going under the speed limit down here could get be rearended on the turnpike. I'm obsessive about tire pressure.
@@ProfessionalMonkey people are to distracted these days. I also worry about being hit from the rear. I just sit in the right lane and hope for the best. Also most trailer tires are not speed rated, mine say max speed is 65mph. I see a lot of trailer accidents are from trailer tire issues weather its excessive speed, under inflated, overloaded. Best wishes to you and the Monkey family.
That torsion bar when installed will make the difference in your day to day driving, I'm guessing those 20s decrese your overall tow carry compared to 18s and they will probably handle the heat better more mass dispersion of heat, watching to much truck stuff
@@ProfessionalMonkey yeah it’s similar to a 454 but it’s based on the newer LS platform only reason I’m aware of it is because a friend of mine just dropped one of these engines into a half ton suburban and he keeps blowing up axles with it
Heard you say you pull your trailer with a full water tank . Look under your trailer and check your tank the way its mounted will scare you 2 little straps with self tapping screws I had some 1/4 inch plate bent into L brackets and used grade 8 bolts to secure it it would really suck to lose your water tank rolling down the highway
You just love abuse don't you.... with all of the different projects that you have going is just like juggling chainsaws and you fear that you might grab the wrong end. Great Job and another great how to video!!! Be safe and Be Blessed!!!
There are helper air bags now too that you air up by hand . Jordan Ray put them on his truck. The helper springs look easy to install and I bet are cheaper but I like how you can get a air system to balance/ counter a off balance load. I'm sure the springs ride better without a load than air. It's a coin toss I think lol. Are you sure old man doesn't want a "kitty" wagon? Think kill Bill if you don't get the reference lol. Good vid
Good morning, I was wondering how the Hellwig Springs worked our? I am considering them for my Ford F350. My wife also used the truck to pull a horse trailer. So your opinion is important to us. Thank you, I look forward to your videos. Jack
I love diesels, nice truck. Liked your Ford better, Karen right? Those GMs are nice too though. Keep up on the oil changes and fuel filter changes on that dirty max and you’ll be alright. Trucks never even had a “cold start” in its life haha. Just messing with you NW Ohio here and it is still pretty cold.
Monk, sounds like you have it set up pretty close, it shouldn't make any difference empty as the springs are as you said "helper springs" where you will really notice it is when your loaded as those are designed to stop leaf spring oscillation, , kinda the same idea as old time slapper bars on older street cars that helped with leaf spring wrap up. There job is to keep everything rigid, and from the looks of them there pretty beefy, I would make sure to take a couple of open end wrenches with you when you go to Daytona to make any adjustments to the outer U bolts in case they need a little bit more adjustment...just in case. .. Cheers from the Great White North
@@ProfessionalMonkey double nutted......🤣🤣🤣🤣, but seriously, i wasnt thinking of them coming loose, i was thinking of having the ability to loosen them to tighten them down even more if the truck still swims know what i mean

The bucking is what I want to fight. So far my truck still feels stock.
