  • The Nord Grand is just an amazing instrument, I play only the White Grand in this demo and will make more videos with the other grand piano samplings later. But the white grand is definitely my favorite.

      Thank you! As I remember it, I didn't do much of EQ. Just a little reverb I think. My setup is a Scarlett 2i4 Audio Interface, and a pair of KRK RP5 Monitors for listening. Hey! Must say it: your demos are great! Because you sound great, therefore the products can shine.
    What about the keybed? I know you sold your Stage 3 (with good reasons, that keybed it's awfull for a skilled pianist) and I was wondering what is your opinion about the keybed of the Grand instead. Moreover, to what other keybed would you compare it?
    For example I love the PHA-4 Concert which is in the Roland RD800.

    • @simonwestmanmusic
      @simonwestmanmusic  5 лет назад +5

      Hi! Thank you very much! Yes I sold the Stage 3 a year ago cause of the keybed. But I must say, the keybed of the Nord Grand is excellent! At least in my opinion. I think its the best keybed I've ever tried, in the musicstore I tried the Roland RD800 and the Yamaha CP88 for instance (havent tried the MP11SE or the PM7SE though) and together with te Nord piano samplings its just amazing.

    • @GiacomoParrinello
      @GiacomoParrinello 5 лет назад

      @@simonwestmanmusic You're welcome!
      Therefore you are stating that the Grand's keybed feels even better than the one installed in CP88 or RD800, because of the interaction with the Nord sounds. Interesting!
      Thank you for your small review, I will look forward for brand new videos on your channel.

    • @simonwestmanmusic
      @simonwestmanmusic  5 лет назад +2

      @@GiacomoParrinello Thats of course only my opinion. The Yamaha CP88 sounds really great, maybe just as great as the nord grand. But I didnt really like the keybed in it, just a matter of taste. Roland Pianos I also dont really like... For me the nord grand is the number one choice.

    • @GiacomoParrinello
      @GiacomoParrinello 5 лет назад

      @@simonwestmanmusic I can understand your point. I think the biggest advantage that CP88 can give you is possibly the compact size and the weight...which make it as portable as a Nord Stage 3 76, keeping a good keybed for sure.
      In mi view the main weakness of Nord brand is the fact that they refuse to produce a Stage with a pretty good wigheted keybed for pianists. Grand it's good by the way, and could be the perfect solution for some genres...mainly where you don't need to much versatility (talking about splits, layers, editing ecc...) but good sounds, keybed and interaction between the two.

    I am a profesional pianist, gigging mainly jazz but I like to practice also classical music (Bach, Chopin Etudes...) to keep my technique. Now my question is if Nord Grand is a good instrument to practice on all that stuff?
    For instance, I get in a situation to play on a real grand piano a piece that I practised and learned on Nord Grand, would the feeling be much different in action? Will I have trouble playing some fast lines on a real grand piano, because it might have heavier keys?

      Hi Ken! No sadly, I have not received my NG yet. :(
      I was told by Sweetwater last Thursday: "It looks like we are about a month out on the Nord Grand." So that implies I will not get my NG until the second week of September (USA).
      I have been hitting the Nord User forum every day looking for any tidbits that come out of there. Everything I have read so far has been positive. One person made a comment on YT that the keys did not always make a sound when played very lightly, but as we both know that is how AP's react and are not supposed to make a sound. I tested my AP at home and yes, you can play a key silently while still getting no sound if you press it "lightly" enough to get past the escapement. Keep me posted here please, if you get your hands on one! Good luck. Mate!

      Hi David, Yes I hear that chorusing also, and that is annoying since NORD has done such a wonderful job with the stability of rest of the piano... I have owned 20 Digital pianos, and I am in agreement with Simon that within a comprehensive package (Sample/action/slab) it is simply the best so far. I'm in Dallas TX, and will order my NG in a couple of days. This should be fairly easy for NORD to fix, and I will be complaining or expressing my regret at somewhere between F---and ---FFF. (forte & triple forte) ... At 1st listen I was thinking it was some kind of "tuning scale".... tempermant etc..... I believe they will fix it, (Just do the right thing) and we will download our new pianos and happily go down the road to the performance!

      @@simonwestmanmusic I actually really like that it's not "perfect". It feels very much like a "real" instrument, as do all the Nord pianos, IMO. My favourite EP, the Nefertiti, has a couple of worn hammer tips and a few slightly overdriven pickups that are part of what makes it feel so "real".
      Nord has somehow always been able to make me feel like I was playing a real instrument, not an imitation of anything (well, apart from the a-/e-pianos in my old Electro 2, which were always ghastly).

      I guess it's because most pianists in the world (me included) think it's sounds better:)

    Hey this is incredible thank you for sharing 👏 Can I ask if you tweaked any of the eq's on your nord or is this the standard sound for the white grand? Also would you recommend downloading the xl version for increased sound quality? I only ask as I downloaded a smaller size and cannot get it to sound as nice as your sound (I even play through good quality headphones). Thanks!

      Hi! Thanks so much, as i remember I just tweaked a little eq and used a little reverb. Have the XL version and did not yet try the smaller ones...but I think the White Grand XL sounds just wonderful, and I have 2gb piano memory on the Nord Grand so I go all in XL:)

      It's called "Dream/Lost Song" by the late jazz pianist John Taylor. It's on the album Azimuth '85, great song.

    I found the action on the Nord Grand to be terrible - short-rockered and clunky. I also own a Yamaha S5x 6'7" grand piano and the Nord is NOT grand action but feels more like an upright. You can hear the thump at the bottom of key depression louder than the sound of the actual tone coming from the speakers even at louder volume. Its sounds like your hammering a box with a rubber mallet. For comparison sake, the Roland RD-2000 is far superior when it comes to action. The Roland has wood core keys which balance well with proper escapement - and the impact at full depression feels like felt hammers instead of rubber in the case of the Nord.

    It doesn't quite sound like an acoustic piano, especially in the middle register.

    I was watching a review on this piano and no organ. Who cares we pianist don't want that stuff on a digital piano.
