    2 of the greatest guitar players in history. food for thought: clearly a jazz player playing blues and a blues player playing jazz

    One of the best drummers on the scene today. MASSIVE feel. Not to mention the two guys messing around on the guitar... just saw them live last week. Great guys, absolutely zero BS attitude about them.

    A dream "pairing". I've been a fan of both for many years. This is is a feast of great playing by two masters of taste, phrasing and soul. Dig it! I wish we could see them down in Texas--y'all have a lot of fans down here...

    How anyone could check this as a "dislike" is beyond me. What, not enough autotune for ya?
    These two guys defined an entire era and they keep getting better. Great track. .

    Beautifully said, Laxer3232. This is true ensemble...where everyone listens and is suportive of the soloist, while at the same time having the freedom to stretch out however they choose within the parameters of their function in the music. Nothing more rewarding and satisfying.

    The "Big Boy" on bass is Larry's son.... Don't remember his name but, He smokes! Larry is very proud of him. I saw them 2 years ago.. same line up but without Robben. Great blues show... Saw Robben at the same place last year... Crystal Bay club in Tahoe, small room, very intimate. Great shows!

  • @Wajlonis
    @Wajlonis 12 лет назад +1

    Robben Ford is a very deceptive player... First he tricks you into thinking "Hey, that's easy, it sounds great but I can play like that too!", but after a few seconds he shows his master skill in jazz-playing, with all the notes out of scale, jazz licks, great technique and out-of-the box melodic thinking... A real pleasure for my ears.

    Toss has been around the LA scene for a while; one of the underground guys who has been on a lot of sessions; especially with players' players like Mike Keneally, Jeff Babko, Karizma (99), Robben Ford (Toss has contributed to Robben's last two studio efforts), Frank Gambale, Mike Landau, etc. He taught at PIT in Hollywood from 87-96. Certainly a qualified cat.

    On one hand I think RF is totally outclassed by LC here. LC's solo approach is awfully bold, and is probably the only way he could follow RF's fireyness without actually trying to one-up him -- which he's totally capable of. On the other hand, I love RF's snappy attack and tone, & how he takes these big, clean bites out of that diminished form they're both working. Woof! I love this.

    Holy gawd, this obtuse and angular frame forces the soloists to deliver above and beyond the call of duty and damned if these mofos don't rise to the occasion. Respect.

    Damn, this band is playing some tight funky sh*t. Its a great tune and really showcases how good it can be when these two great guitarists play together. Love Robben's tone and the diminished licks he plays and the outside stuff at 2:55 is really cool.

    All of you guys out there keep on talking about these two talented guitar cats, which of course is not particularly surprising since it is their show :) but you all seem to forget the engine in this concert, Toss Panos drummer extraordinary. No matter what you have to believe this Toss runs the show with his brilliant and magical drumming. So keep on discussing lines and riffs, guitar amps, chords, who plays better than the other, whatever...but tha drummer is the man in this show

    Nuthin but good shi&*% here! My friend had some nice bootlegged cassettes of Robben with the yellowjackets in Redondo beach in the early 80's. I was waiting for Larry to darn near smack the drummer here because he wanted it WAAAAAY down low in volume. Both players are in my top 10 faves and if anybody out there thinks they play guitar should listen to these dudes as a reality check and standard to shoot for! imo

    Sorry to disagree with you. Saw Larry many times in late 70s before he was shot. His playing was a bit more raw and rocked out. He was always a frustrated be bopper (he told me so in an interview), and his playing after he was shot is more refined and softer in comparison. Either way, he's one of the greats!

  • @geetarnut

    Ahem. Looking at this, I guess I'm possibly partially to blame for the 'competition' thing, though unintentionally so. These guys are both amazing. Amazing! Can I play like this? Hah! Not even close. Can I appreciate different aspects of their styles? You bet. LC is older and perhaps more audibly seasoned. RF might be younger, but I dig his phrasing and articulation more in a way. Can I express an opinion? Why not?
    But I'll say it again: Both of these dudes are absolute monsters. Peace.

    The drummer looks like a Fraggle Rock in the last minute with the video as sped up as it is. Epic piece of performance by all but whoever it was; that thought they could make this piece any better than it already was.

  • @MarkTarmannPianoCheck_it_out
    @MarkTarmannPianoCheck_it_out 13 лет назад

    @mmorper1987 they write soloing vehicles for themselves. like miles did (all blues, so what, most of the later stuff). it's their genre.scofield, metheny, carlton, ford . a few riffs, a few complex syncopated hits, a couple stops on a wild sounding chord, and then just play over a couple of chords. if it was misty or a beatle tune it wouldnt work like this does. not enough room to really do what they do best, blast endlessly creative bluesy funky riffs. think about it.
