Great demo of a repair using ABS. I think the nylon screen is fine for most applications, but someone on the Grumman Gang suggested Phifertex from SailRite as a substitute "on steroids." Don't know about that, but if I have a close tolerance fit and need a thin application, it might be worth the extra cost. (Phifertex isn't cheap!)
If that patch were at 45 degrees to the line, it would structurally be more sound. That's a cool trick, using nylon screen to fix plastic.
