Why the sea lion population at San Francisco's Pier 39 is dramatically increasing

- The dramatic increase in numbers is due to the migration of large schools of anchovies from the Farallon Islands to the area around the Golden Gate Bridge. The impressive gathering of sea lions is a remarkable sight and can be observed daily.

A large herd of sea lions was moving south to the Channel Islands when they ran into a giant school of anchovies off of the Faralons. They chased them into the bay and here they are feasting and basking.
i miss living in north beach chinatown. i can hear them barking all night in the distance and wake up hearing the parrots flying and squawking in the morning. i lived on third floor on a hill and can look
across out towards bay and walk to the pier. loved living there …
Now that looks normal to me, last year when I had friends who wanted to go to see them, I was shocked that there were hardly any sea lions basking. Glad they're back!👍❤️
OH WOW WOW THIS IS SO Amazing 🤩 ❤ I love it
Seals in SFO Bay have been living at Pier 39 since the 1980s and before - in 1979 was dropped off at pier 39 and there where a few at that time
They knew they could get squatter rights in SF.
Awesome 👍😎
They’re definitely fat and happy. My 5 yo granddaughter couldn’t handle the noise the last time we were there.
Planets of the lions
7:08 what do you think about the sea…ls????????
MF your in the news they are Sea Lions of SF!!!! lol
For those who ever make the same mistake. Sea lions sit up like a dog. Seals are like sausages
The large numbers of sea lions will also attract more sharks😔

🙏🌍 Peace and LOVE for ONE and ALL ✌💛
ONE ❤🔥🕊️
Presumably these small platforms are provided for the sea lions, partly to prevent them from settling elsewhere?
It was a harbor for boats but now just seals
they are following massive schools of anchovies and other fish so here today gone tomorrow!!
They have something up there sleeves, or flippers.😂😂😂
OH YOU SHUT UP, VINCENT THE TRUMPSTER FREAK AND THAT IS SO NOT FUNNY!!!!!
It literally sounds like a kennel. Expect a lot more sightings of Great Whites coming soon...and Orcas all up and down the coast.
Imagine doing that all day instead of writing gootube comments.
They grunt their viewpoints. We write ours. A lot of grunting in the YT comments.
@@bellagirlgirl8827 🤣🤣👍👍 fact !!!
@@bellagirlgirl8827 Sounds like a day with the women on "The View".
Beautiful, but oh, imagine the smell.
It is aweful
там же рыбы нет столько, что бы такому стаду прокормиться!
The Sea Lions sound like an interview and conversation with cackling, do-nothing Kamala Harris.
wow they dont have space… maybe come to alameda there is halibut and other nice fish 🙃
Which means that there’s an abundance of food and the environment is healthy or their predators are missing, such as the great white and orcas. One of the two.
aLot of blubber.
🦭 They're bad when they swim to the freshwater Deltas and eat the salmon and other fishes.
They included the sea lions in the latest population count increase?
Seals taste good steaks
How's parking been ??? Afraid of car break-in's. Guess I better get my big bike serviced... park for free around watchers is a good safe feeling.
Do you live in San Francisco or just trying to spread false info? I haven’t noticed much car breakins in this area of town. Heck my quiet residential neighborhood probably has more breakins than fisherman’s wharf/north beach area.
@@jngx80 I was asking a question. How could that get by you lol FYI... I've lived in the Lafayette/Walnut Creek area since 1959. You have to admit the news report's car break-inns all the time. Thank you for the reply.
Seems out of control to me. Send in some orcas.
I'm sure, Joe Biden will fabricate a story about himself and the Sea Lions. It's just a matter of time.
A lot like the homeless problem
I guess black people are not interested in seals.
