Used to have an 87 iroc... I loved that car so much but had to sell it back in 2009. I finally got myself back in a camaro this year buying a 22 LT1. Just reminded me how much I missed driving the old iroc.
I'm 58 and about a year ago i bought a 2014 SS Camero Ls3 6 speed and it's the most fun car i've ever owned. Engine isn't anywhere near stock now but even when it was with the six speed it was still a blast to drive around in. I love the way the car rides and handles. If i had any complaint it would be like many that have complained about the electric power steering providing almost no real feedback but when you get used to feeling what the car is doing in your behind instead of in your hands it's easy to push it hard without getting yourself out of shape. I can't imagine ever even thinking of selling it.
I'm 65 yrs old....owned 3 camaros and 1 trans am....Wanted to get a camaro for a fun car when I retire and now I'm out of luck...hopefully they will bring them back or its a used one for me....Great video....
Great video, Bud! That ZL1 1LE is sexy!! You're right! Ford/ Chevy have at least 4 more years to make some v8s! I gave up on Stellantis. Apparently Stellantis knows what the American people want? Nope! Not even a frick'n clue! Unless Stellantis gives Dodge/Chrysler back to America, I'm afraid those brands are doomed.
My problem with the newer Camaro was headroom and visibility. I bought a Mustang GT instead. The Challenger was really good too. It was a large and comfortable car.
The modern Camaro was generally regarded as having the best chassis of the 3. 1le handling is super car like. But sitting in one was very cave like. Can’t see shit 😂
If you want a practical car, you buy an estate ( sorry... "station wagon" 😊 ) As a drivers' car the Camaro was the best bang per buck on the planet in recent history, and the visibility is a non-issue ( you have blind spot warning lights so highway is really no problem )... but it's definitely the least practical of the three main American muscle cars.
Great video, you're absolutely correct about the 6th gen,I have the 2017 Fifty anniversary special edition SS,six speed manual,I put a Whipple and headers on it and now have more power than the LT4, fantastic car, handles like a dream, fast when you want it or completely docile when you just want to cruise,I couldn't be happier with it!!!
The problem with the Camaro long predates anything with the current administration. The biggest issue is that it was a tank...not enough outward visibility. It wasn't a huge issue for me but EVERY SINGLE PERSON I talked to that considered a Camaro (but bought something else instead) said that the outward visibility was shockingly bad and immediately made them discount the car. The problem was that Al Oppenheiser kept listening to boomers, a literally dying segment, instead of courting new customers. Because apart from visibility and styling (the 19+ was an awful downgrade) the Camaro generally performed as well or better than similar trim Mustangs and Challengers. Motor Trend said repeatedly that it was difficult for them to get a Hellcat to beat a ZL1 on the drag strip, even the Redeye.
The reason sales went down was the cost was so high. I had Gen 1,2 and 3 Camaro's in my teens and 20's. They're not affordable for young people anymore. I wished they would bring the Z28 back I would buy one!
I bought a new gen 6, 2017 ZL1 with the 10-speed automatic, loaded out. Enjoyed it for a year, then sold it. The car was an absolute BEAST. Great interior too!
@@barrydraper So you sold the ZL1 just to "get your money back" 🤡🤡🤡... I bet now you drive a Chevy VOLT which you also must've got with your Employee Discount too. If you're soo concerned about money then you should put it into S&P500 index.
As a Gen 5 owner, the trunk's not so bad. My wife and I just took ours on vacation for just over a week, about 300 miles away, and had no problems with space. What does suck is their placement of the cup holders in the way of the shifter on the manual trans cars. They were moved a bit on the Gen 6 cars, but still in the way. A travel mug of coffee for the long drive is a good thing; but there's nowhere else to put it!
I can only think of one movie the 6th gen is kind of featured, and that was in Free Guy with Ryan Reynolds as he drove one in the 3rd act of the movie! I'd love to see them do a 7th gen with a more powerful v8 than the 6th gen rather than bring the name back as an EV!!
The day I bought my RT+ Challenger I test drove a Camero. I loved it. The Camero was low and had power but a Challenger is more comfortable. I felt crunched up in the Camero. Good video.
My guess is if they loosen the CAFE standards, the Camaro could very well reappear..:) As that electric Dodge Charger with the digital sound and vibrating seat goes to the dustbin of ridiculous ideas!
I don’t know why GM, Ford and Dodge don’t make a very base version of the car. Say like a base stereo, base interior, no soft touch just all hard plastic but nice looking plastic. They don’t even have to have carpet in the car put that rubber mat material. But definitely include all the safety technology and that’s it sell it for $30 ,000 or around 30 something. Make it so a middle class person that works in a factory can buy it and enjoy a cool muscle car. Because at 40 grand that’s just too much for a lot of people.
Let’s be honest here, no car manufacturer is going to make a car that isn’t selling. Was it a good product? No, it was a fantastic product. Memories of what happened to the 4th gen. A great product that just got too expensive for the market.
Awesome vid,yes completely agree GM needs to capitalize on this opportunity. Proud 6th gen owner here, absolutely love it and if you put a 305/45/17 out back it rides like a Cadillac 😉 even in Track mode
Had 3 Camaros including a new '69 that I loved. since GM has received so many complaints about the visibility they 15 years to improve it and did nothing. If they had offered a rear camera the visibility would be greatly improved.
Right now we have every reason to be hopeful about the Camaro coming back. The problem with GM is their lukewarm attitude towards promotion of their affordable sports car offerings. Fourth generation F-bodies, Pontiac GTO LS1 and LS2 versions, Pontiac G8, Chevy SS among others all fantastic cars that the corporate office won’t push. I’m a lifelong GM guy but it’s heartbreaking to watch the cycle repeat itself across numerous models 💪🏿🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸✊🏿
Sadly, Holden was shut down by GM since they didn't feel like doing any RHD markets anymore. And they made and designed all of those cars. So the Commodore is no longer being worked on, so no more continuation of the the VF commodore/ Chevy SS and no more Monaro/ GTO sine the GTO was the two door variant of the four door. I feel if they where to continue with the four door performance cars they would have to bring back Holden, which is unlikely but annoying since seeing the prices a Chevy SS will sell for over in the US there is clearly demand.
@@Gengargamer2_ Hey dude, thanks for the reply, not only did Holden shut down but the Auto Industry left Australia all together because of the government regulations. @Michael-pi8ps Not true at all about the Mustang always outselling the Camaro. Most recently the fifth generation Camaro outsold the Mustang largely due to the popularity of the Transformers films. Other generations have like the second and third generation were also very close in sales if not beating the Mustang in certain model years. The Mustang has a legendary following with entire family lines sharing the passion but the GM offerings are not far behind. The Camaro lost sales mainly to MOPAR because for the money Challengers/Chargers made more sense for a young family seating 5 people with a larger storage area. The demand is there for a new Camaro it just needs GM to commit to marketing it properly. Even if you’re a Mustang guy you SHOULD want the Camaro back because that makes the muscle/sports car market larger and more profitable for all of us. Bigger market means better Whipple kits, Flowmaster exhausts and more choices overall. See you at cars and coffee 💪🏿🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸✊🏿

I wanted to get the 2SS 1LE but it’s 2 narrow on the inside for me. I am 6’3 and felt squeezed in it. So I ended up going with a 6 spd Scat Challenger. They most definitely need to make the trunk space bigger also.

I have owned two Camaros, a 1967 and a 1971. The 1971 was the first new car I ever owned. It featured a 350 and a 4-speed for just over $3,500 sticker price. My current Chevy is a 2017 Impala with a V-6. GM does not offer this car anymore either, as the last year it was manufactured was 2020.
Gen 5 with the LS3 does not have AFM but you need to get a manual for that. The automatics come with the weaker L99 engine, which DOES have AFM. Gen 6 the manual also does not have AFM, but it DOES use the same AFM style lifters and oil management system as the automatic cars that do have AFM, despite not having the electronics to actually engage the AFM. If it were me, and longevity or modification were the priority, I’d probably get a gen 5 manual.
My dream car was a 68 RS/SS Camaro, and I almost bought an 87 IROC-Z (my Brother-in-law had a 86) but bought a 86 Mustang GT back when you were a kid LOL. In stead of getting a classic (old) car and everything that goes along with the old car like rust, breaking down, bad handling etc., I recently got a 23 M6 Challenger as it was the Last real throwback muscle car available. It really takes me back to driving a large body muscle car like some of the cars I got to drive that my parents had. 69 Tempest w/ 350 , 72 Catalina w/ 400. My Dad was not going to let me have what I really wanted for my first car, so I got to buy a 78 Sunbird 4 banger, but it was a 4 speed and fun. There was an Olds 442 1969 for the same 2k I spent on the Sunbird in the neighborhood, but he said a 16 year old had no business owning one of them. In 1967 that first commercial you showed with the butternut yellow Camaro I always wondered why they showed the small block and not the big block 396 for that commercial you can tell it's not a big block cuz it's missing the blacked out rear panel the back rear panel that's how you tell a small block from a big one during that time the big black always has the rear panel blacked out
The ZL1 1LE is a dominant track monster, and the last of its kind really! Love my 5th gen and the Camaro as a whole; I seriously hope we get a proper 7th gen one day!

Love my 3rd gen. I was definitely going to get a 6th gen SS but my Challenger fell into my lap so I took it. All 3 of the late model muscle cars were all amazing cars
When I had my 16 2SS, I got used to the blind spot. At the time I got it when the 17’s were out and got it 10k under sticker for 39k. I remember silverados being 17k off sticker at the time as I also considered a truck. I had to trade the car a year later when I moved to Michigan and couldn’t use it as a daily. If I try to buy a similar spec 16-18 with low miles, it would still cost what the dealer gave me for it in 2017. I will say that mine had transmission issues out the wazoo and GM was messing around with fixing it. Had it in the shop 3 times for it. I still miss it though.
I was wondering why not do some updates on the Camaro. Fix the glaring bad points, like the trunk and the back window(really love the Gen 4 set up). Then, give it a hybrid with that great turbo 4 and/or v6. Keep a v8 for those who want it As well an EV for those who want it. Would be a Stang killer again!!
I have a ZL1 that has a Lingenfelter polish and port with a Magnuson upgrade. Despite 900hp, it is completely drivable and the chassis is equal to anything I’ve driven from BMW. Chevrolet criminally under marketed the last Camaro….A really great car.

I own a Krypton Green Camaro and I absolutely love it standard at that. The visibility does not bother me one bit. And the trunk size is actually pretty decent it's the opening that's really small. I got rear-ended not too long ago and I have to fix some of the back in the trunk . Still makes me sad I absolutely love my Camaro. There is not another vehicle like I'm telling you. I do want to get a c8 down the road and possibly painted Krypton green. I wouldn't mind if they brought it back
First car was a Gen 2 Camaro 500 hp hot rod in 1997. Iv owned Camaros forever now Gen 3 5 and my 6. Great cars the Gen 6 blows every generation away no contest. One of the greatest handling platforms ever made specially for the money hard to believe didn’t sell more idk.
Nice shirt Go Bucks! Being a Pontiac guy, GM has always had it's chosen few you can look into the history between Pontiac and GM. Chevrolet is the top brand for sports cars the Corvette being king. Anything that threatens the hierarchy is eliminated you can't have a Camaro pushing Vette numbers thus good bye Camaro. My dream was to own all the big three supercharged coupes I have a Challenger one down two to go.
I'm 58 years old, and I've heard GM say this, every time they get ready to change the body style. When the current body style gets old, they say, this is the last one we're going to make. However, a few years later, they make a new Camaro The longest break they had, was between this body style, and the body style before it. Just give it a few years, I'll bet that they will come back out with a new Camaro again. I wouldn't be surprised if they already have a concept car in the works!!!
The demise is the industry shoved massive luxury cars void of trunk lids down our throat, + who actually needs that kind of HP on public roads. Mine is/was a summer only vehicle, I dread putting it back on the road & the cost of insurance.
I’m a strange one in that my budget friendly resto mod is a late gen2. My first car was a 10 year old 78 Z28. I admit it was worst performance of any car I owned. I grew up on Smokey & the Bandit but prefer Chevy to Pontiac. Damn I still miss that car.
they didnt do any actual ad campaigns, I told my dad about the LT1 and he thought it was v6 until I googled it in front of him. IDK why they never marketed those

"I could go into an entire video on just the history of the Gen II." YES PLEASE! Would love that, such a gorgeous car :)
2024: 60th anniversary of the Mustang
2026: 60th anniversary of the Charger
2027: 60th anniversary of the Camaro
I can't remember ever seeing a camaro commercial, but I have seen plenty of mustang and challenger/charger. Seems like they would advertise it more.
Exactly
I'm 65 yrs old....owned 3 camaros and 1 trans am....Wanted to get a camaro for a fun car when I retire and now I'm out of luck...hopefully they will bring them back or its a used one for me....Great video....
I would absolutely love for the Camaro to return. And if the rumors of a new Pontiac are somehow true, a new Firebird would be sweet.
The Challenger has way more room in the back seat and trunk.
The modern Camaro was generally regarded as having the best chassis of the 3. 1le handling is super car like. But sitting in one was very cave like. Can’t see shit 😂
I own one. Its easy to get used to. Its a non issue.
@@rideintothesun8106 Yes, if you're going to be hauling bread snatchers and groceries, the Challenger is the way to go.
Or they could bring back a big block Chevelle? That would be cool.
I already have a 1970 SS 454 but, I'm with you!
Fully agree 100%
Cool idea
If they had Chip Foose design in maybe.
Along with Pontiac Firebird?😉
I think the Firebird would allow them even more flexibility with the platform in that it would not have to meet Camaro's audience expectations.
This is Dam good vid, X.
Point taken. I'm adding Camaros back to my Watch lists...+400 club, out the box/Sub 50k ?? ...nuff said.
I bought a new gen 6, 2017 ZL1 with the 10-speed automatic, loaded out. Enjoyed it for a year, then sold it. The car was an absolute BEAST. Great interior too!
If it was THAT great…why sell it?
@@Dan-gj1hz bc I purchased it on my “GM Employee Discount” and was able to sell it 1 yr later for what I paid for it. 50th anniversary edition.
🏆Racer X 😅 the man the myth the legend 🍀✌️
Racer X friend keep up the great work !! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😃😃💪💪👍👍👍
Good video.
Loved my zl1 , sold her in August. Buy low sell high 😊
Even if they did that people would still find a way to complain
Buy a used Stang, Camaro or Mopar. No reason it has to be new to be a fun car.
Fantastic video! Love the history of cars. Would like to see you do a similar video with the Dodge Charger models over the years.
If u compare it to Chrysler and dodge. They increased the prices. Thus caused sales to go down.
Let’s be honest here, no car manufacturer is going to make a car that isn’t selling. Was it a good product? No, it was a fantastic product.
Memories of what happened to the 4th gen. A great product that just got too expensive for the market.
Was the price a big reason??.
So no cars are built down under anymore just a ton of aftermarket companies like Harrop ( kinda like the Australian version of Roush or Whipple) I owned a 2005 LS2 GTO midnight metallic. Awesome car till the very end when a city worker totaled it hitting me while I was stopped in traffic. I’ve got a sixth generation Camaro SS now and it’s my baby. Probably going with a vette for my next car but not sure which one 💪🏿🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸✊🏿
Every muscle car will be gone very soon get them now before it’s to late, you prolly got 4 or 5 years then the mustangs and vets will be toast
@@JasonWagner-e5w Not at all. People are done being dictated to. There is no law banning high performance gas powered vehicles. Furthermore, no one except the diehard climate activists WANT a ICE ban. I’m in California and even here the majority of people want fun cars. Unless people lose their nerve and let what has been happening continue into the future we’ll see the products overall (not just cars) come back to the levels people want them to. Just have to wait and see 💪🏿🥷🏾🇺🇸👍🏿
Something better is coming
pls tell
Like to see the Camaro content! Ready for that LT1 build you've mentioned. 😁
Just curious why that 1LE doesnt have 1LE wheels?
Reason being this is the ZL1 1 LE., not 2SS 1LE that has those wheels you’re expecting to see.
@@ViTrucker340 The ZL1 1LE has come standard with unique five spoke wheels since it debuted that are smaller than the normal ZL1 wheels (pictured on this car). 2ss 1LE comes with completely different 5 spoke wheels...
I would consider buying a new Camaro SS right away!
I owned a 71 and a 75, loved my Camaros, but then i drove a vette, had a 95 c4 and have a 2010 grand sport. You can’t beat Chevy performance. My fave day driving my 75 was sitting at a light and having a 6 year old kid in the car next to me yelling at his dad, he’s driving bumblebee. It was a sad day my 75 and 95 went away, but my c6 is better than both. However my 71 was faster in a straight line than any of them.
I totally agree that Pontiac should come roaring back with the GTO! As a teen I had the T-37 with the 350ci and it was a blast to drive! As an adult I've had and SRT-8 and a highly modified R/T 5.7 which I also loved to drive. As GTO with a 500 HP NA engine would be a killer on the street.
I wanted to get the 2SS 1LE but it’s 2 narrow on the inside for me. I am 6’3 and felt squeezed in it. So I ended up going with a 6 spd Scat Challenger. They most definitely need to make the trunk space bigger also.
I bought a new 2024 2SS Camaro this spring in April when I heard they were not building any more. I absolutely love the car... a Pontiac option would be kinda cool.
They stopped selling these cars because they took a big dip in sales.
Crazy
Luv this appreciation post RacerX for the Camaro. They are my favorite
Just like the rest of what we see in America, I think there are things going on behind the scenes that will come out when the time is right. The next gen Camaro and the Challenger/Cuda are both being secretly developed IMO.
They need to make a new one that looks just like the original except with a modern interior
Thanks for another great video - I like this format, focusing on one car with a bit of a back story 👍
I'm in the minority when I saw the Camaros draw back was its interior space and horrible visibility.
It is simply the nature of the beast. Unless we use see-through panels for that area
If they come back I may trade in my 22 SS 1LE if I like what they do.
Camaro was my favorite car since I was a kid. I owed 3 over the years.
1985 Z28
1994 V6
2001 Z28
Also had a 1999 Trans Am. Wish that would come back.
Still Own a 2004 GTO.
Just sold my 2012 Challenger SRT and currently daily drive a 2023 Charger Hellcat
I had a 1984 z28. it was the biggest piece of junk I have ever bought. It was at the dealership for repairs more than I had it and it was a new car. I wrote a letter to GM and they basically said go screw yourself. So I traded it and never looked back and since then I have never bought a GM product and never will.
The Gordon prank with the salesmen was awesome!
I tried to get a 2023 allocation in February of that year, and never got it. It seemed like they weren't making very many. My realtor had the same issue and had to buy used.
That's why I had to order one of these in 2022 before they stopped making them. An vivid orange 2SS, with just about everything OTD for $52+change.
I have a 2021. Weekend driver. Absolutely gutted they didnt do a Gen 7. Unreal that 2016 engineering drives so good. The LT1 lump is timeless, 455 hp/455 tq. Hopefully with new leadership in DC, we see GM offer the normal unassuming American like me and lot of us a simple but proper muscle car.
That orange Camaro you are standing in front of, is what I just bought!
Thanks for the video, Racerx. camaro is a beautiful car from 67 to now! I hope they will bring it back! I'm already sad with what dodge is doing, have ford's just making a v8 mustang would be sad, I personally would get a camero like the one you were driving gen 6 in standard! We need other choices!
Well said. 💯. Perfect time to reintroduce the Camaro/ trans am impala ss.
Lifelong dodge guy, just bought a Chevy Colorado if they make the Camaro again I will buy it and I have a scat pack the 70 and a 71 Cuda
Looking for a gen 5 or 6. Ss. What year does not have afm???? Active fuel management
After what I put that Sunbird through, I would have to say he was right and I may not have survived 😉😉😁😁
Purchased my 2018 ZL1 1LE oem add on, for 60K in 2019 it had 2K miles, now 32,000K.
The generation 5 Z28 was 80K new, then they dropped the price, but it was bare bones, this car was a still for the $. Keeping mine for a classic one day with my chevelle.
As someone whose owned multiple mustangs and Camaro’s it is very lame that we got a 7th mustang and no 7th gen Camaro
I think Trans am or Camaro should come back
Bought an LT1 in 22 love it best bang for the buck with lots of power
In 1967 that first commercial you showed with the butternut yellow Camaro I always wondered why they showed the small block and not the big block 396 for that commercial you can tell it's not a big block cuz it's missing the blacked out rear panel the back rear panel that's how you tell a small block from a big one during that time the big black always has the rear panel blacked out
The ZL1 1LE is a dominant track monster, and the last of its kind really! Love my 5th gen and the Camaro as a whole; I seriously hope we get a proper 7th gen one day!
I have a C7 Corvette now, but if they bright Pontiac back and made a Trans Am with a 500 + hp engine and a 6 spd... I would be ordering one in a heartbeat.
Love my 3rd gen. I was definitely going to get a 6th gen SS but my Challenger fell into my lap so I took it. All 3 of the late model muscle cars were all amazing cars
Ford gonna keep increasing prices till competition arrives.
I don't get why trunks on modern cars are so narrow. Old car trunks had space alongside the quarter panels too.
Last Gen LT 1 Camaro was one incredible ride. All the trim levels were excellent performers.
I almost bought a car at Streetside Tampa but someone bought it before I could, I instead bought something somewhere else that ended up being a lemon, and I got burned. The lemon was a 96 Z28 manual convertible camaro...it was fun before it sheet the bed.
I have my 2018 Camaro ZL1 and I’m keeping it.Sad that they stopped making them it’s a bad decision.
I wouldn't mind if they brought it back
Aye @RacerX can you do a video on the best entry level muscle cars to buy?
Pontiac Trans Am would be a great returning classic
First car was a Gen 2 Camaro 500 hp hot rod in 1997. Iv owned Camaros forever now Gen 3 5 and my 6. Great cars the Gen 6 blows every generation away no contest.
One of the greatest handling platforms ever made specially for the money hard to believe didn’t sell more idk.
Pontiac and Firebird is coming back!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Agreed. I saw the ad in my Car and Driver magazine several months ago. It should be available soon.
@ also TK garage said a GM muscle car coming back from the ashes (Phoenix/Firebird =Pontiac). Some thought magazine was a hoax lol
@@mgxmaddguiness7066 it is real.
The Copo 572,632. I've heard are super sweet!I had a 80 berlina with a modded 350,91 iroc.z . N a 98 conv.camaro.Gonna miss the camaro.
However, a few years later, they make a new Camaro
The longest break they had, was between this body style, and the body style before it.
Just give it a few years, I'll bet that they will come back out with a new Camaro again.
I wouldn't be surprised if they already have a concept car in the works!!!
Man that '18 ZL1 in that color looks so good
The demise is the industry shoved massive luxury cars void of trunk lids down our throat, + who actually needs that kind of HP on public roads. Mine is/was a summer only vehicle, I dread putting it back on the road & the cost of insurance.
Ford should bring back the Mercury brand to recreate the Mercury Cougar with a 530 HP version of the 5.0L Coyote V8 in it.
I’m a strange one in that my budget friendly resto mod is a late gen2. My first car was a 10 year old 78 Z28. I admit it was worst performance of any car I owned. I grew up on Smokey & the Bandit but prefer Chevy to Pontiac. Damn I still miss that car.
So Pontiac is coming back but they just canceled the Camaro. That’s so GM. I can’t wait for my new Trans Am Performance Sedan! 🎉
Love my Camaro , So does my Mustang friend , He's always asking me to trade for the weekend ,
Lmao your friend is a nerd.
they didnt do any actual ad campaigns, I told my dad about the LT1 and he thought it was v6 until I googled it in front of him. IDK why they never marketed those
Exactly.. they should have done more to make the platform cool
