Thanks for sharing your experience with MB service. I've heard some horror stories about their servicing & it really puts me off from buying such an expensive pen. If it was just a case that the end cap hadn't been tightened properly, that's a very shoddy & unacceptable service for such a luxury brand. I think they've also gone downhill since the Richmond group took over.
I don't have the experience from before. But I think they just didn't care about it. Then I returned the pen and they fixed the cap. I made a followup video about it.
I think that you have the right attitude. That gap would bother me too. If they acknowledge that it was a mistake (we all make them), and fix it at no extra cost, then, fair enough. Looking forward to the update.
I have just received my Montblanc 146 two days ago back from Montblanc boutique in Chicago my home town. As you note they appeared to replace most of the pen with new parts same as mine but remember you have a one year warranty on the work performed so you should have no problem getting this fixed. The montblanc service for the reasonable price is the reason I have no problem purchasing a used pen. I know montblanc stands behind it with unparalleled service and stand behind their product. Yet one more reason to pay up for this premier product. Good luck and I trust they will rectify. Cheers
Hello, So sorry for your issues with this. I was thinking that maybe the tech didn't tighten the screw in the dome all the way down as well. It is a shame you will have to wait again. I have heard that the problem with MB they will replace items that they deem needing replaced. Most people would not mind but I have read where people send in vintage models that need a new spindle for the piston and get it back with other parts replaced as well that hurt the collector part of these. For example a 146 sent in that needs piston work and has an older split ebonite feed that makes the pen very nice and bouncy but when they get it back it was replaced with a cheap new plastic feed. They were told that the MB tech must have thought it was a crack and not a feature. When the person complained and wanted the original split ebonite feed back, they were told that will never happen they no longer have it. To MB they think it is best to have it back as new as possible and do not care if they keep original parts on it that distinguish old models from the new. In the collector or users eyes, a older one has a much better writing experience than new ones. This is why I only send my MB pens to independent repair people who have experience and a good reputation for MB repairs. I sent a 80s 146 in to a guy for a misaligned nib on a used one I bought at a sale and he straightened it and aligned the nib and opened it up and greased the piston all for about 50 USD and had it back to me in under 7 days. It was a great experience. I wish you the best of luck and hope it comes back perfect and is quick time. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your comment. I think it is nice they replace the parts to make a writing instrument perfect as new for writing again. But, for many of the pen users, a pen is more than just a tool. It is also a collectible and it may have emotional value. They should warn they will replace parts or ask for permission to do it. In this case I don't care because it is not a collectible. I was just sad because the result was not perfect. Meanwhile I took it back and they fixed the problem for free.
Hello Paulo. I agree completely with your concerns about the Montblanc cap. The gap is very noticeable and unacceptable. If Montblanc decide to carry out work that you did not authorise it should be done to your satisfaction. Clearly you are not happy with the work and I wouldn't be either. You did the right thing by taking the pen back again. I hope the pen will be much better when it is returned.
Thank you for your comment and sorry for the long delay for replying. I took it back and they fixed it for free. I just can't understand how they didn't notice the gap after the first repair.
I understand why you were torn. MB tried to provide good customer service by doing something extra, but in the process they introduced a new flaw. You were right to go back, and I’m sure you displayed the same attitude there as you did on the video: appreciative but unsatisfied.
I don't have experience with the repair service. But I like to see the Montblanc Carrera. It is ment to be pupils in the 1970th. And I learned it very well with it. It was a special nib for lefties. All other brands didn't do that this time. I didn't know that I had something very special. I would have liked a pen like my friends had.
in my quiet, humble opinion, this gap is ... absolutely unacceptable! Incredibly sloppy on several levels. Appropriate actions from the MB workbench - again, imho - would have been: contact you for approval of repairs you have *not* requested (what if you valued the (vintage?) cap as it was, for some reason? Sometimes we like the 'dings' and scars of a beloved item). And of course - assess for integrity of repair pending approval (clearly, they fouled up here). And clearly: under no circumstances should you pay for their incompetence. I'll take this a step further: they owe you a gift for your patience.
I agree with you. Lack of care. They should ask first. To me with this pen, there was no such problem but they should ask before. Meanwhile they fixed it for free. But gift for the patience? Not at all. Not even they offered to fill the pen from one of their bottles to test pens. But I am not trying to complain too much, all I want to do is to share my experience and to let everyone else know how they work.
Indeed, Paolo, a small gratuity - to demonstrate their willingness to make amends to you, the customer. It's not terribly impressive from where I'm standing. As a consumer (& in this particular scenario), your complaint is wholly justifiable & in presenting the two videos, you're exposing a fundamental flaw in how MB operate within the constraints of Customer Service.
@@andrewtongue7084 Yes... And because I made this video and also the follow up where I show they fixed it I don't think I am being too unfair with them.
Paolo, you were not unreasonable in either the first instalment or the second; certainly, the fact that they were dishonest in regard to the repair, speaks volumes...Where possible, I seek to undertake all my own repairs (& yes, that may well void warranty), but at least if I mess it up, I know that I am responsible. Paying a fee for a maintenance/repair is thus a contract - & if either party default on that contract, then the blame is apportioned to that relevant party. Apologies for not having responded sooner - work has dictated. Hoping you & yours are in good health, Andrew 🙂
for any repair the very least that should be done is to do it right and have it checked before being returned. I have had repairs done by Pelikan and Senator pens, both in Germany, with no such issues.
I agree. This is not a mass production operation. This is an individual repair... I don't have repair experiences with Pelikan or Senator. Meanwhile they fixed it.
You said "only 91€", that are around 5 kaweco sports... Mont Blanc it's a luxury brand and it repair services should be perfect. I think the same as you, you should go back and ask for a right repair. In the EU, the repairs has guaranty and if you aren't happy you may tell it.
Thank you for your comment. I agree, but I said only 91€ because for such an expensive brand I didn't think it was too much. Meanwhile I sent it back and they fixed it.
This reminds me I have a Montblanc that needs a nib+feed replacement. A writers edition Kafka it's one of those things I keep putting off but bothers me every time I look at the pen. Dreading the cost of that one! I think you did the right thing to go back. I don't remember how your pen used to look but I think cosmetic damage would bother me less than that gap!
Nib and feed replacement must be super expensive! The cosmetic damage was visible, though not terrible. Meanwhile I took the pen back and they fixed and it is all good now!
@@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita I saw the update :) I'm glad they made it right! The replacement will be painful for the wallet especially because I'll probably have to get reground afterwards I've been told not every size is available for the W.E. pens. In the meantime I found a PDF with prices for MB repairs. I think the nib in question would be over 300 euros or thereabouts. It's Pilot 823 money and I've yet to try a modern MB nib that held a candle to a Pilot gold nib.
My experience is very poor too - I sent in my MB 149 for its nib to be sorted out. It came back and just felt the same to me. A new nib is over £300 so I’m stuck with either paying that or trying to find a nibmeister to send it to. I was very disappointed. Mine is an EF nib that feels sharp or scratchy. It just isn’t good. Yet ink flow is superb, very wet. I may as well just get some micro mesh and try that to be honest.
I understand. Such a brand, with such high prices should be always flawless.... And it isn't. However, in my situation, they solved the problem and the pen is now ok.
My 146 came apart when I unscrewed it. I was told to ship it to Texas. It took a month but came back perfect. They kept my oroginal box. I should not have sent the original box. They sent me a new box.
I understand they are replacing a writing tool for another that is in better condition (in your case the box). But I think they should know pen people value not only the pens as instruments but also as collectible objects and they should inform they would replace, or just give a warning or ask for permission for replacement before doing it.
The gap should not be there, Paulo. You should let them fix it. Its not about only 91 Euro (they have fixed cost for different tiers), its about the service. I am sure they will do it.
That is a big gap, wow! Sorry to see that. I have used MB repair service once, for my Boheme, it was just a small adjustment of the tines, one of which is slightly miss-aligned. I paid a basic "pauschal" fee and I didn't even know what they have done exactlly (they didn't tell me). Normally I will never do that for this amount money, I will rather do it myself. But for the love of my Boheme and my nerve, I did it.
Nib repair on an expensive Montblanc is a very serious thing. That is one annoying thing about the repair service. They don't provide information at all on what they did to repair the pen.
@@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita as a follow up. I recently sent my 146 to Montblanc for maintainance and got the "Pauschle 1" price suggestion again. So this time I ask them what exactly dose this mean and ask specificly about my pen. They say this means "cleaning, maintainance and defect parts be changed". And then will write me again after the checked by the maintainance workshop about what be done to my 146. So I think just write them an Email with the number they gave you. Best regards.
@@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita The 146 came back nice, they changed the piston rubber (since this 146 is an old one, W-.Germany and the rubber is not in its good shape), regreased the pen inside, and changed the old ebonite feed to the newer plastic feed (only this perticular one I am not happy because the ebonite feed is still good and a reason I got it, but I think they just want to avoid any follow up problem for they offer 12 months guaranty after a repair), so far it writes perfectly and I cannot complain anything. I did ask the workshop, what they have done in this maintainance with "pauschal 1", but the returned reply was just something like "the customer want to adjust ink flow" (not the exact wording because it war half a year ago, but it is similar), which has nothing to do with my request ("please to a pen healty check and the rubber need to be changed"), I think they just think up something to reply me. Well anyway, the 146 is one of my best daily writing pen, can't leave home without it. Best regards.
What happened in the end? Agree with you and must admit I noticed that cap gap straight away. They should have replaced the whole cap! I have a Meisterstück 149 (bought new) as well and the same piston problem as you. I'm very annoyed because it has been back to Germany once already too. I also have a Pelikan Souverän M1000, which cost less but performs better 😞
They just changed some parts that were not compatible so the gap was there! It was not a mistake. They just thought they would get things done that way. In the end they fixed it. I made a follow up video: ruclips.net/video/hXzWxZERT1U/видео.html
Hello, Paolo, in regard to MB's customer services, I am surprised that they replaced the base-section to the cap, because clearly, at the finial joint, the diameter at that point is slightly wider - & no amount of "tightening" will close that gap - in fact, it will probably split the resin. In terms of extra cost, well, that should not even be an issue - all repairs by MB carry a warranty (or so I have been informed by a friend of mine who has had need of their service). Frankly, I consider it cheeky that they've held onto your scribe for so long - & even before leaving the repair workshop, quality control checks should be carried out to ensure a perfectly presentable writing instrument; this irrepsective of the vintage & model type. That said, I look forward to the next instalment - to see how MB respond - & of course, your usual quality presentations - stay well, & keepo safe, my friend, Best, Andrew :)
I agree. That was what I told them, that the part shouldn't be compatible, for having such a gap. They said all parts are compatible and that it wasn't the problem.... Strange reply. Even more because when they sent it back from the new repair they replaced the clip also. Because I was right about the compatibility, I would say. And I think they noticed it and they knew it. They were just expecting I didn't notice. It is just my opinion.
I think you're correct in your assertions, Paolo. The House of Montblanc, in terms of their latest writing instruments appear to be fine, but when restoring/refurbishing older models, I'd say they're not being entirely honest with you - which is a shame, but unfortunately, as with so many large companies nowadays, there's little in the way of the customer service that was offered back in the day on a variety of products, including that most important factor - build quality & attention to detail for their more basic creations. I can think of two other German companies who always maintain the highest of standards - Lamy & Kaweco; I've had dealings with both via correspondence, & they couldn't do enough to ensure a positive outcome. I hope you're keeping cool in this current climate - my son & I are trying (& failing miserably)...take care, Best, Andrew 🙂
(Sorry for the late reply!) I think both. It can scracth easily but if you are careful enough it will hold on in perfect shape for a long time. It all depends on how you take care of your pens.
That gap is quite noticeable and should not be accepted especially since it wasn’t there in the first place. It’s just an indication of poor quality control on MB’s part.
Thanks. I agree. This is not a quality control problem over a batch of pens. This is one repair done by hand. I think they noticed it and sent it expecting I would not notice it.
They did do a lot of repairs but it shouldn't have left them with that gap. I don't know if I could stop looking at it. I would have to go back and ask them to do something about it. I would rather have the old part and buff it than know the gap is there and not be able to look away. This is hard because they did do a lot but the gap should have been pointed out or discussed before returning it to you. I would give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was just something that they missed.
Thank you for your comment and advice. They solved the problem but I don't think it should happen. But, as you say, it may be just something they missed.
Does not matter that they replaced more than you thought, the issue is the pen looks like it has fake or after market materials. Even if its all real, just the sloppiness of it makes it look like that. They will probably have you pay for it, or shipping or something, as Mont Blanc is not what it once was. Why they would not ship to your home is beyond me. Gone are the days of their good craftsmanship and quality product and good customer service.. You can complain, but they will care less, trust me I used to have a star walker fountain pen and the cap was breaking down and cracking in a couple places after 6 months, they said its normal wear and tear.. The pen never made its way back to me, so now I have nothing. I had to argue for 4 months to get a refund 2 weeks ago and the last nail in the coffin was I had to argue about being refunded $30 for shipping when I never got it back, they really sent me back and fourth, calling UPS, calling them, calling their ambassador for customer relations. A "luxury" company should handle things and stand by their product, not make the customer jump through hoops. In other words my experience with their customer service is horrible.
Thank you for your comment and for sharing your terrible experience with them. That kind of thing should never happen. Even less with such a luxury brand and well known company. Meanwhile I took it back and they fixed it for free.
The gap is, of course, not acceptable. That is sloppy work, so you should go back to the Montblanc boutique and reclaim for better work. The 149 is not a cheap item, in most cases a beloved one, so they must change all the parts in such a manner, that there are no gaps to see. I have bought my Montblanc pens several times to KaDeWe here in Berlin, but they always take a month, I did not have a reason to go back to complain about their work, but if that was the case, I'd go immediately back there and reclaim for a perfectly done work.
@@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita These are difficult times everywhere. I know the guy who works for Montblanc here in Berlin at KaDeWe, so my friends always give their pens to me, and mostly their work is flawless, but with Corona, everybody is on edge ... for my 149 I was to times there.
@@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita I just got my 146 LeGrand and I am very worried about the mechanism. I treat it gently and I only fill it exactly as Montblanc have specified.
Repair cost is actually quite reasonable when your writing instrument comes back as good as new. Where can you get a quality repair done any washers else? I would challenge anyone on that. That said I also don’t wish to be an alley mechanic on my expensive writing instrument. Cheers
So annoying and disappointing. I would echo what everybody else has already said, i.e. send it back to CS with your complaint and request them to fix that fault with the very visible and unacceptable gap that you showed here. And, of course, this should be done at no extra cost. It isn’t too much to ask, in my opinion. This sort of defect would bother me no end with any pen, regardless of price. Btw, Paulo, would you be willing to pay to have the nib replaced with one more to your liking? edit: I have the black MB Junior 620 pen. I really like it. But the nib dries out and hard starts every time. Maybe capping and sealing issues, obviously.
The pen was sent back, they recognized the fault and fixed it. For free. The replacement of the nib is too expensive. I don't think I want to pay for that. Although I can't use it much with this current nib. I never had any problems with the nib drying on those lower end Montblanc pens. Maybe you are right, some sealing issue of your cap.
I'd think that Montblanc messed up on the cap. If they'd fix it for free, good, but if they try to charge more, not. In my opinion, Montblanc isn't what they used to be, and are getting lax and relying on brand recognition, like Harley Davidson in the 1970. Pretty bikes, they were put together so poorly that they used as much oil as petrol. Montblanc might not be that bad, yet, but it seems like they're heading there.
I think they are a business who sell luxury items and tend to forget that the items are in fact pens and that pen users have more attatchment to pens than just the attachment to a tool for writing.
Boa.
Boa tarde, sou sim.

The gap should not be there, Paulo. You should let them fix it. Its not about only 91 Euro (they have fixed cost for different tiers), its about the service. I am sure they will do it.
You are right,. It is not the price, it is the service. I took it back and they fixed the pen for free.
Conferiu o número de série? Foi trocado?
Não. Acho que esta caneta não tinha sequer número de série.
@@siyuanxu3537 I hope your pen turned out fine.
Olá Paulo. A loja onde mandaste arranjar a caneta foi no Centro Comercial Colombo? Bom video...
Olá. Peço desculpa pelo atraso na demora. Foi na loja do El Corte Inglés.
That said, I look forward to the next instalment - to see how MB respond - & of course, your usual quality presentations - stay well, & keepo safe, my friend,
Best,
Andrew :)
I hope you're keeping cool in this current climate - my son & I are trying (& failing miserably)...take care,
Best,
Andrew 🙂
@@andrewtongue7084 In the end all turned out well. But I was not happy because they were not honest with me...
Is the black resin very easy to scratch? Or is it quite durable?
Easy to cratch.
(Sorry for the late reply!)
I think both.
That is unacceptable. I hope you got it fixed by Montbalnc
Yes, They fixed it fo free.
How many pens do you own Ode?
I don't know. Never counted them. Maybe I should do that someday soon.
Was there an update?
(Sorry for the late reply!)
Yes: ruclips.net/video/hXzWxZERT1U/видео.html&lc=UgyjMFBGZZRvKV80qap4AaABAg
Unacceptable from MontBlanc! Yes it should be perfect. Sad to see that, that is my favorite luxury pen. Unacceptable.
I agree. But I took it back and they ended fixing it.
That gap shouldn't be there. Just tell them.
Thank you for your comment. They solved the problem, meanwhile.
This is not acceptable! Montblanc should provide you with a the highest quality service and provide you with a perfectly repaired pen.
I agree. The explanation they provided was strange. But it is now fixed.
Thank you for your advice. I sent it back and they fixed it. But it is so strange that this happened and they missed it.
The repair cost is outrageous.
It is not cheap. But given Montblanc prices I don't think it is that expensive, in the end.
@@OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita Or they're used to people who get them as a status symbol, basically just as a dust collector on a desk...
It's just plastics, why is it so hard to fix?
(Sorry for the late reply!)
Because they put the part on a non compatible part. But I sent it back and they fixed it for free.
Boa.
Boa tarde, sou sim.

That is a big gap. It should be fixed by MontBlanc.

I sent if back and they fixed it for free.
Sad to say Its typical Montblanc. I have Le Grand in silver which is leaking. Its been in Montblanc Care totally Four times. 4 times. I then gave up and asked an amateur collector to help. He fixed The issue in half an hour. Why Can something be that hard….
They ended fixing it. I just think it is said they didn't do a proper job and tried to convince me they did...
*The top section is a defective fit--completely unacceptable!*
(Sorry for the late reply!)
I think the same. Unacceptable for an official repair service.
It is not acceptable !! Please send it back for repair.
👍
it’s supposed that montblanc is synonymous of excellence, but that is bad repair and you have right to complain, i have montblanc and i am not happy, the nib doesn’t feel right, after watching your video and your experience with the repair service i don’t know what to do
Maybe you could use the repair service but stang very firm with them until they make all the repairs the right way.
Just lack of care, I would say...
I'm not understanding something. You are complaining before you even gave them a chance to fix your complaint??? I mean you do say you appreciate everything they did but then you complain about a gap and you are going to take it back tomorrow. It would be nice to find out the final outcome, otherwise this is really an unfair review. I actually had a wonderful experience with Montblanc repair. They completely inspected it, diagnosed any problems and cleaned it, and replaced the piston and cone. Came back in great shape and wrote wonderfully. No problems since and has become one of my best writers.
In the end they made it right for free: ruclips.net/video/hXzWxZERT1U/видео.html
But they tried to convince me that made a proper job the first time not using incompatible parts....
It's just not right. Show them, and they should correct for free.
Thanks. I did and they did correct it for free.
Not acceptable for Montblanc. Take it back
I agree. I took it back and they fixed it.
Unacceptable work for a flagship pen.
I agree with that. Even more because it was not just a matter of not being properly screwed in place.
Montblanc is famous for his bad service and you will pay a lot to change the cap😂 that cap us ugly😮🎉

They made it right later, for free.
Definitely not acceptable - sloppy quality control.
They made it right. Which was good and they have merit on that. But I agree this work is just not acceptable!
yoiu should go back, it's not acceptable work.
