Especially with simple examples. I feel like often you are given the concept, but not an example with actual numbers. And then you just move onto the next bit, so in your head you kind of get it but because you move on so quickly the concept doesn't stick in your head because you haven't actually gotten to run through an application of it working.
We are living the "traditional courses and schools death". It's real. Here in Brazil the colleges are bankrupts with new learning model focus in "free knowledge".
@@cristianmello8120 That's how it should be, especially now with technology making learning so much easier. You can get an XP-Pen from the internet (which allows you to use your paint application as a scrap book) Free pdf's of textbooks and/or RUclips (which has people willing to share their knowledge of random stuff)
I'm annoyed that I had so much trouble with math throughout elementary and high school, absolutely hating it, only to have it make perfect sense when I started to learn programming. Excellent resources here!
High School does a very poor job of relating mathematical concepts to any practical application. Until you think deeply enough about what the numbers really mean and are shown some way to use them they just seem like arbitrary made up nonsense. Basic arithmetic makes sense because you can use it to balance your checkbook. Geometry makes sense because you can use it to measure the dimensions of a construction project ect.. but high school does a very very poor job of showing practical applications for Algebra and Calculous. That's why it made no sense to me no matter how"hard" I tried to study. I couldn't grasp the basic concepts.
I have always been good at math. Never had a problem with it, I especially loved trigonometry for that matter. I say it only depend on your learning style. For example, I am not good at memorizing but I am extremely creative. Which is why I prefer doing essays in the afternoon (When I am the most distracted 😁) One time I got 98% on my final in-class exam essay because of it. What is your learning style? I myself not so fond of calculation-based maths algebra despise the fact that I got an A in Algebra, precalculus and calculus. However, to say that I like analysis-based maths would be an understatement. And yet I can't get pass a B+ in my computational structure class 🤔
Started the course today. Returning to school to obtain a second bachelors in engineering. It’s been 10years since I lasted taken a math class. Thankful for this
What? this video shows almost only secondary school maths and maybe some weeks of 1st semester college. If you have not studied something with maths and/or you forgot everything you knew in school, then this video suits well for you.
@@tripleO16 I just finished an elementary algebra course in college for my CIS associates degree and the setup is terrible. They give you a book that does not know how to explain anything and you are left to figure it out on your own. So what happens when students have bad books, professors who doesn't want to explain anything in a simplified manner, and loads of math homework, test, and quizzes? You get students who do not understand basic concepts who focus on completing the assignments rather than learning something. So they move on to harder algebra and you already know how that would go. Sometimes it's the learning environment. I always thought I was bad at math seeing as I struggled through my summer math course but CodeCamp is wonderful for this free 7 hour lesson.
Ah, yes, it's the same logic that could lead people to believe doctors wouldn't want everyone to be healthy, therapists wouldn't want people to be sane, and heterosexual men in STEM would like to keep heterosexual women out of STEM... If you give it anything more than the most cursory glance, you'll realize just how preposterous the entire reasoning is.
I spent a total of 30h over the course of 10 days to finish this crash course and i'll say its 100% worth it for a review of most of highschool algebra and it touches on the foundations of functions and logs. I cannot express enough how much Dr. Linda Green has made math easier for me because of the way she explains these topics, I'm looking forward to finishing the pre-calculus & calclus 1 courses with her for my journey to become a software engineer using the WGU pathway, let's knock out this calculus prerequisite if your doing pre-WGU! Not really, those 10 years were constant practice of YOU doing countless problems with slight variations watching a video on Math without constant practice is meaningless
@@kwidzius He's right for the most part, but it's not meaningless. this info won't be retained unless you do many many practice problems after finishing this video. Otherwise you'll forget the specifics. school incorporates this practice.
@@kwidzius the video is easy to digest for you because you already master it and you got 10 years about it. I went to social science undergraduate, and never really touch algebra math again after 6 years. However I am forced to do math again for scholarship application. I used to excel in high school math thus it only needs me 2 days to review the entire book. Won't happen if I have to study from scratch. Like high school calculus, physic, or chem (I attended music and social arts high school).
I love how often she used the phrase "and this makes sense because...". That would've helped so much in high school. The rules make more sense when applied and when accompanied by a visual aid.
As a life long learner with an engineering & computer science background; I will say this is one of the most comprehensive lessons or tutorials on basic algebra skills. What makes this video so valuable is that they thoroughly explain each concept while walking you through the different techniques used to solve each method. Math is about patterns and the ability to identify those patterns so we can manipulate those equations into a form we understand how to solve. Khan Academy is another excellent platform to learn or reinforce concepts that may have gone unused for awhile. Keep up the GREAT work just wish these resources were available during my struggling times when I had to continue to revisit math resources to refresh my memory while learning new material.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have always struggled with math, and am currently taking College algebra. My professor is subpar at most, and the textbook fails to answer my basic questions. I was honestly contemplating dropping out of college, but this simplified version answers the questions that I had. I honestly feel like crying out of gratitude.
I learn more and more from the net than I do ever did in school. These are passionate people making these videos and the impact is felt deeply. Thank you for being so passionate. This highlights the problem of industrializing education in the modern world where you basically buy yourself a degree and true knowledge or understanding is not sought out. LEt's take a moment to appreciate the effort given to explain it clearly and in detail. Imagine, how long as well this was uploaded considering it's a 7 hour long video the processing and uploading must've taken such patience to do so.
@@FRC_CR editing a 90 minute movie can take months for a team. think about everyone who worked, and how long, to condense this course into 7 (comprehensible) hours, which is still quite a lot for a "video".
@@dan-us6nk Recording the video: about 7 to 10 hours Editing the video: about 4 to 14 hours (if one needed to add images and clips, it wouldvé taken 10 or 20 times as long, but just editing a video and emerging it together isn't that hard.) So in total this video took at minimum 11 hours to make and at maximum 24 hours. That is about 3 working days for 1 person or 1 day for 3 people. Don't get me wrong, these videos are still hard to make, but if you have a teacher who knows this stuff well, you just need to record it in 7-8 hours and then anyone can edit it. To make a movie, on the other hand, you need to record tons of scenes, which would take hundreds of hours, then you need to cut them, merge them, add effects, work with colors, add images, music, post-production and much-much more.

I’m a genius now. I think these videos are worth more than going to class. Not all teachers know how to teach and explain why and how. I’m truly thankful.
It’s currently 1am for me and I plan to go to bed right now instead of browsing RUclips wasting time being extremely unproductive. I’ll start studying and watching this video tomorrow to get myself prepared for future. I’ll also make further edits on this comment to keep track of my progress. Thank you!) first day: 2:43:27 second day: 3:56:53 then 3 days later i was able to finish the rest (i forgot to update my comment oops)
I love this video and this instructor so much! “And most people just take this as definition, but lets look at *why* it works” has to be just about my favourite sentence ever, and as a neurodivergent learner, her calm non-rushed, detailed but not rambling explanation is the most beneficial teaching I’ve come across. I’m so so greatful for this!
I also have a minor hearing disorder and i just wanted to point out that the dedication to subbing a 7-hour video just to make it accessible for disabled people is also amazing!
Yes it is true that a lot of people studied algebra in high school, but not everyone. It is also true that an awful lot of people did not pay attention or try very hard in high school. If you plan on graduating with a degree that is not math intensive, College Algebra is what most colleges and universities in the USA require you to complete. If you want to go to college or university for a S.T.E.M. degree, algebra is only the very beginning. This is an amazing resource for everyone.
I’m really trying to get better at math this summer so ima be taking this course. I plan to do 30-45mins each day. I will also be using other resources like khan academy, Saylor academy and doing some math problems each day to fully understand the things taught in the course. I’m starting tomorrow! @@chrismac1507 There is a layer of memorization and a layer of understanding. Most young people finish unis by learning up by heart, which is bullshit. They pack up knowledge inside their brains without labeling anything, without getting familiar with mental tools.... and one day they wake up and realize they're back to being tabula rasa, 30ish-something year olds doing a grindy job they'd simply repeated enough times to get used to. ... and this is coming from me, having seen that happens in the engineering world. I love how how she explains why things work the way they do. My school teachers were so useless at this. Basically just give us the equation and how it works but never really highlight the mechanics behind the process.
Same here, I feel my self really confused most of times. I can do maths well, but dont understand the reason behind why formulas are the way they are. : C
i just started it today and all i have learned i couldn't learn in the past 8 years of school. i love how she explains all he step unlike saying "this is that bc it's supposed to be" also she's taking very clever steps to do the maths and i appreciate how she is making step by step difficulties. I recommend doing these equations hands on with her it'll make the lessons much more efficient.
I am studying in Russia and we solve the first equation 37:20 much easier: x^2-6x+8=0 According to the theorem, the inverse of Vieta's theorem, we get: x1 + x2 = 6 (we write the opposite sign of the number at the second x) x1 * x2 = 8 (we leave the sign of the last number) and now we select the numbers, i.e. so that it turns out that two x's in total and in their product gave 6 and 8. We get that X1 = 2 ; X2 = 4 If you don't believe me, then I will substitute these numbers into these 2 equations : x1 + x2 = 2+4=6 x1 * x2 = 2*4=8 use it for your health))
Dr. Linda too done the same by putting cross ❌ and in vertical section she has written the two numbers that is 8 and -6 and applied which you are applying... I guess maths has many doors...all lead to solution but some may be quick or may be slow but both of them would rejoice the true pleasure of mathematics..

If anyone is debating watching this whole thing let me testify that it is 100% worth it. I tried to watch 30 min a day and finished in around 2-3 weeks. I really tried to focus on those 30 min and write down everything, including working out the problems before she worked through them (took me about 1-2 hours a day). The definitions and explanations make this maybe the best math instruction I've ever learned from. I'm taking Calculus in the Fall to finish a biology degree and watched this to help solidify my algebraic foundations before taking it. I feel like I'm actually starting to understand some of these concepts in a way I never have before. I'm about to start the pre-calculus video. Thank you for making the videos Dr. Green!

We are living the "traditional courses and schools death". It's real. Here in Brazil the colleges are bankrupts with new learning model focus in "free knowledge".

I'm annoyed that I had so much trouble with math throughout elementary and high school, absolutely hating it, only to have it make perfect sense when I started to learn programming. Excellent resources here!
weird isn't it, I barely had any math knowledge when I started programming 3 years ago. Now everything starting to make more sense.
@halo X1 you are going to hate being an adult. Everyone is an unreasonable ass lol

@@hp.carrillo I studied some of this stuff when I was 13 not sure why ppl are saying this is better than college xD
Its a great video, and very simple to understand, however for folks in my country about 70% of this we have to know to even get into college :/
@@dan-us6nk Recording the video: about 7 to 10 hours
Editing the video: about 4 to 14 hours (if one needed to add images and clips, it wouldvé taken 10 or 20 times as long, but just editing a video and emerging it together isn't that hard.)
So in total this video took at minimum 11 hours to make and at maximum 24 hours.

Yes it is true that a lot of people studied algebra in high school, but not everyone. It is also true that an awful lot of people did not pay attention or try very hard in high school. I am studying in Russia and we solve the first equation 37:20 much easier:
x^2-6x+8=0
According to the theorem, the inverse of Vieta's theorem, we get:
x1 + x2 = 6 (we write the opposite sign of the number at the second x)
x1 * x2 = 8 (we leave the sign of the last number)
and now we select the numbers, i.e. so that it turns out that two x's in total and in their product gave 6 and 8. We get that X1 = 2 ; X2 = 4
If you don't believe me, then I will substitute these numbers into these 2 equations :
x1 + x2 = 2+4=6
x1 * x2 = 2*4=8
use it for your health))
Even in india we use this theorem best it is
Dr. Linda too done the same by putting cross ❌ and in vertical section she has written the two numbers that is 8 and -6 and applied which you are applying...

Who else thinks there should be a geometry course like this? I personally just find learning geometry tougher than algebra, I like it when someone else explains things.
Yes, that's what I need
proving stuff in geometry seems so hard to me, I'd probably like to learn it
She is a GODSEND! Need to get an A in college Algebra to keep my GPA within the competitive edge for RN program thank you sooooo much
My goal is to get into college level pre-calculus on my algebra placement test. 45 minutes of video daily.
DAY 1: 31:45
DAY 2: 1:43:00
DAY 3: 2:024:34 As I watch this I just think back to moments in school when I just didn't understand these exact concepts and just wrote some fake numbers on my paper. I think being able to start and stop the video is what really helps me click. In school the teacher is going as fast as possible and really isn't giving me time to write and thing about what im writing down. My knowledge of math is like swiss cheese all of these concepts are familiar to me but I never really fully understood them.
DAY 4:4:49:05
DONE
You can do it 🎉
You can do it 🎉
good job. You did it!
Bless the people who teach on RUclips, like y’all doing gods work
Why am I only discovering these during the last months of my senior highschool?!
Try my channel mathfullyexplained. Many topics that can help when you need it
@@mathfullyexplained they are good
@@TabishAnsari454 thanks. Enjoy the videos. Plus more topics being developed.
Yes why? We're in the same situation
@@mathfullyexplained I will watch yours tomorrow I'm about to go into algebra 2, but I forgot almost everything from algebra 1
I will finish this video before my discrete structures exam . Im having diffuculties :/ I need to remember them again . I hope i can finish this this in couple days .Wish me luck !
DAY 1: 1:40:31 DAY 2 2:32:50
I just found this channel, this is a blessing. Thank you
0:17 exponent rule
1:07 the product rule
2:07 quotient rule
3:01 power rule
4:04 power of zero
5:01 negative exponent
5:58 fractional exponent
7:07 distribute an exponent over a product
7:57 diatribute an exponent over a quotient
Even though I already know all of this, it's nice to find other ways to think of these concepts so tutoring people can be easier
But you had to know if you knew all of this. And RUclips thought you might not know so it recommended it.
@@j03Biz oh no i've been exposed
Great Refresher!!

Thank you for this! I've been meaning to relearn college algebra since last year. I took it up in HS but found it difficult. I'm 31 now and still can't get over the fact that I almost flunked it. lol
I'm grateful that Dr. Green gave of her time and expertise to produce this video. I went to college more than half my life ago and I didn't want to go to college again in order to just get a refresher course. Thank you Dr. Green!
This video is both enjoyable and comforting to me. Dr. Linda Green explains very well and she seems so calm, too.
i am thankful that the youtube recommended me this and also to the woman who was teaching the whole vid. it made algebra a lot easier!
Thats Linda Green from Chapel Hill! And that makes sense!
Why does it matter if it’s a women
@@itsjoseph875 what do you mean"why does it matter if it's a woman?" what do you want me to say then? also to the man who was teaching the whole vid, when it was a woman who was teaching?

Finally Finished! Thanks a lot to the instructor.
Next Target: precalculus
Factoring is synonymous to dissecting a cooking recipe to identify individual ingredients by breaking down the items to its basic substance. GREAT job walking through the concepts and providing a road map to better solve them.
Grade 7 here and wanna say that you're so good at explaining things 10 minutes into this and i already find math interesting and im quite surprise cause i dont really like math infact i hated it lol
I’m six and I have learned so much. You’re so awesome. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Six? You are gonna be the next Albert Einstein my guy!
@@tactical_369 Probably means grade 6? Like 11
i'm currently in 8th grade and i'm doing this so i can do well in highschool (9th grade-12th grade). currently i'm able to understand this so ty!
samee
M also in 8th wow
Reviewed and relearned all the lessons in this video for almost 2 days. It’s been quite a long time since I learned Algebra in high school and university. So some knowledge was like brand new to me. The instructor tends to go over some topics quickly sometimes and the video quality went bad at times, but with the lecturer’s mathematical expertise and teaching passion, this is overall a decent and worthwhile course. Thank you a lot!
I am going to take Linear Algebra next. Wish me luck!
Completed the lecture fully today. Thank you ma'am for explaining the topics so beautifully and creatively. i have always hated functions before going through this. thank you so much

This is great. Starting my college algebra class next week and have been out of math for 10 years. Did ok on my placement test but really need this review.
I'm quite rusty in maths and studying, so I'll start slow. Bookmarking.

I finally completed it in 1 day.
As a non-native English speaker who is learning the language, I'm also enthusiastic about studying Data Analysis and Data Science through free courses at Code Academy and Udemy. I have some prior knowledge from my education, but these courses have been an excellent way to refresh and expand my understanding. It amazes me that in these times, we have the opportunity to study anything we want - we just need to remain focused...

FCC provides again, thank you so much, I was really worried that I’d struggle in college/uni thanks to my poor math skills. You’ve really lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. ❤️
I'm 36 y.o.
I've finished math class at school (russian math education is really good), but i forgot almost all.
So now i have an opportunity to restudy my past experience and on English in additional. That's great.
I'll use this videos as my reviewer before I go into Uni in a few months. I would likely go with this order of the videos:
1. College Algebra
2. Precalculus
3. Calculus 1
4. Calculus 2
5. Linear Algebra
Maybe : Statistics
Goal would be at least 3-5 hours of the videos every week since I still have school to manage as well.
Wish me luck!
You got lucky to find this material bro. All the best!
Good Luck!
Did u watch them all and was it worth it? I’m thinking of doing the same before I start uni next year
if you are involved with programming, combinatorics worth more than statistics...
I'm reading your comment after 1 year of it being posted, did you finish it then? also what course in college?
I don’t got time to watch a 7-hour algebra video, so I’m watching it at 200% speed.
nice hint! will do the same.
@Train of Taught haha, just kidding! Right now, i need for that 7 hour video 3 times to work all through properly, do some own tests and try to get that stuff in my brain permanently... :)
@Train of Taught yes, i want to get a certificate for the Coursera Algorithm with Standord University. Nothing special, but my math is a bit rusty :) And i do a couple of free courses now, to get back into it.
@Train of Taught You too! Learning is so much fun and there are so many free courses out there. I wish you all the best!
Haha🤣
2:31:05 The coordinates for the center should be (-4,1), not (-4,-1), since we got (y-1)^2

FINISHED!
So very helpful, I am trying to see how much my brain remembers from 20+ years ago and this has been an incredible help.
Good job sir , Me I don’t even remember last week class lol
Ok Boomer , sorry
Am I crazy for learning algebra at the age of 29 to KEEP me from going crazy in my current situation in life brought about by unprecedented circumstances?
I've been depressed and this takes my mind off things. My whole world fell apart in a matter of days. Thank you so much.
Jesus Loves you!!
No you're amazing!!! Keep going. It takes a lot of effort to start doing something completely forgotten especially during these times. Im really proud of you, as a tired pulling an all nighter highschooler haha :)
@Fernando lmao agree tho
@Fernando Jesus, like many reluctant cult leaders, did not actually care about religion, and would have liked for everyone to learn mathematics because it is healthy for their minds :)
You are not crazy.
Man listening to this in English is a pain since I usually did math in my own language.
And yep the ptsd is still there even tho its been 3 years.
This video is simply indispensable for those who needs maths for any exams or degree. Highly recommend watching it (not all at once, but through a few days)
