Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O...Sacha Baren Cohen...Probably all late night TV hosts...so many people owe Tom Green major fucking props and have no idea. He is the Beatles, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Tupac etc of this shit right here. He was a pioneer. Tom Green WAS RUclips before RUclips. Sad when you think about it, but those of us who know...know. My stomach hurts from laughing so much. This guy is a legend.
Letterman was doing similar stunts before Tom Green, but they were segments, his entire show didn't revolve around pranks. Tom just parlayed the idea into an entire genre.

@@lomarsweed6604 Howard Stern was doing pranks before Letterman, and far crazier pranks than Letterman. Still, we are talking about a radio host and a late night talk show host. That's a different job with a writing team and performers etc.. I think Tom still gets credit for everything that the OP said. Tom invented a genre and was the original prankster himself. As far as I know, I don't think Tom ever directly copied anything. Look at how closely this matches Johnny Knoxville's "Bad Grandpa".
@@BoolaBear Howard Stern wasn't doing "pranks" per se, he was doing stunts with strippers and midgets and so forth for the sake of shock value, whereas Letterman was doing actual pranks in the streets of NYC (often with Rupert as an accomplice) with hidden cameras/mics. I think all three are very talented in their respective fields, by the way. I'm not knocking any of them. But Letterman's material was somewhat of a precursor to Tom Green's. Even TG himself would agree with that.
@@lomarsweed6604 I am pretty skeptical of the idea that Letterman beat Howard Stern to anything like that. I guess we also would have to consider the TV show 'Candid Camera'. I don't know much about that show, but it was a pretty early prank show of some sort. It was not the same generation of stuff as Tom's though. There is a clear correlation between Tom's stuff and the next generation of JackAss material. Not all JackAss skits had any cleverness to them. The best ones did though, like 'Bad Grandpa'. I thought that Tom's skits usually had cleverness. I also see a direct connection between some of this stuff and Sacha Baron Cohen's stuff.
I remember seeing this around 20 years ago and thinking it was one of the funniest things I had ever seen. Nothing has changed now.

Back in 2001 I used to get off work and watch the comedy power hour.. Viva La Bam, Tom Green, then the Andy Dick show.. I would laugh myself silly .. it was such a great time to see this type of humor. They still crack me up to this day.
