  • This timelapse video will give a look into the creation of a traditional Japanese gate at the famous Pairi Daiza zoo in Belgium. Last year our location in Boskoop was visited by a delegation of Pairi Daiza as they were searching for authentic Japanese elements for a new section of the park they were developing. We were honored to advise and supply Japanese items for the project such as various stone lanterns, ornamental rocks, a large stone bridge and pagoda. But during their visit, our past Japanese architecture projects caught their eye. Namely the traditional Japanese gate that can be seen at our partner Bonsai Plaza across the street. They were impressed, a huge compliment for us, and asked if we wanted to develop a large Japanese gate of 6 by 4,5 meters for their park as well. An amazing new challenge that immediately got us very excited!
Based on the wishes and requirements, our architect developed the design for a Japanese gate with true traditional aesthetics mixed with more modern construction methods. After the plan was approved, our talented woodworkers started with the construction in the Yokoso workshop. Once everything was perfect, the gate was deconstructed and installed in Pairi Daiza. More pictures and stories about this coming soon.
It was an absolute delight to work for Pairi Daiza and add a true eyecatcher in terms of Japanese architecture to their worldclass park. Providing our architectural services surrounded by amazing animals, varied landscapes, and other unbelievable examples of traditional architecture from all around the world was something truly special. It comes as no surprise that Pairi Daiza was ranked as the best zoo in Europe multiple times.
