I've never seen anyone with this many female minis outside a dedicated WFB Delf player. Damn awesome collection - and excellent painting to boot!
I love painting female minis. Their skin is more of a challenge. Most of my players are female, so I'm always getting more.
I am fascinated and repulsed by Dr. Shakes and Ms. Stitch. Awesome storytelling!
Man, when said dark and gritty you really mean it...
It was even darker. I toned it down.
@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 I love your videos, but man. I would hate your game. Nothing against you, just far too gritty for me.
@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 you really should put this or the darker version out and start a patreon. Ppl will buy it
I love how grimdark it is!
@isaaclorrain9269 Im the polar opposite I wish I could get that delicious moon stone and bottle this like hair serum and rub it all over my tabletop games. Even solo games I struggle to capture that level of grimdark meets historical realities of renaissance/medieval life. Too cool.
You open Red Fergus' chest and find a note that reads "Screw you. love, The Executioners"
BEST. RPG. CHANNEL. EVER.
Thanks Paulo. Keeping sharing!
Using critters for healing. I had a hospital with a tamed basilisk to petrify patients to wait for the “real” doctor to show.
Kinda like how Mr Burns was cryogenically frozen until they could find the cure for 23 stab wounds in the back.
“We’re up to 14!”
“Hooray!”
This channel is nothing short of awe-inspiring for any Dungeon Masters who wish to give their players the BEST experience possible.
Of all great DM channels on RUclips, your experience and your take on the rules of the game is an eye opener, and implementing such changes have been a blast for me and my players. I can't recommend this channel enough. All the suppport from a brazillian DM, wish you all the best.
Thanks for the kind words, Augusto! I love Brazil!
@Augusto Luís me passa seu discord vamos jogar um oneshot
Wow! The level you play this game on is so inspiring. I wish I could experience one of your sessions. I'm a beginner DM and, although I'll never reach your obvious mastery, you've given me something to shoot for! Consider me a fan Professor!
Thanks. To reach my skill level, just run lot of games.
You are the best Mr Dungen Craft from Dungeon University!
Thanks, Juan!
I love Dungeon Craft! Your campaign updates, design insights, and miniature cinematics are fantastic.
Another name for this could be the Caves on Conundrums as you put ethical dilemmas in front of your players concerning enemies.
Plus, loving the surgeon and assistant, plus the partys new patreon.
👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
Thank you so much for watching these old videos. I don't know if it showed up in your feed, but my "Demon Tailor" session is out now.
@DUNGEONCRAFT1 It has. I decided to watch ALL the campaign videos, then "The Demon Tailor". Mad, I know!
😂😂🤣🤣
For a video idea, how do you handle dragons? How do you handle their abilities? Do you have them be intelligent (like Smaug) or more beast like (game of thrones). I love your ideas on making the game grittier but having issues on how to incorporate a dragon into a campaign. I dunno, just a thought, love the channel professor, keep up the good work!
There WILL be a dragon on DungeonCraft, but not until the Caves are complete. The dragon lives in the nearby "Cave of the Unknown" and it will be unique. My dragons are Basic D&D 1981 dragons.
Man, your "Father of 4" notice must be one of the best RPG ideas I've ever seen. I heard you talking about it somewhere else (with Runehammer and Questing Beast?). So brutal! ^O^
Another great video. I really like the tone of your game. and congrats to the winner, the dread Cannibal knight :)
Than you for watching and sharing!
You had me at Skunkweed lol. I’m currently DM’ing Into the Borderlands, and making the Caves of Chaos tiles out of cardboard and sand and rocks. Your stuff looks great! And I may just “borrow” some of your ideas ;) Liked and subscribed!
Borrow as much as you want! I think all the campaign episodes are groped together now.
You upped your game again with this one!! Thanks Professor for all the work you put in these videos. I could look at your minis and listen to your takes all day.
Thanks! It wish I could make videos faster!
Really enjoyable video, I almost felt as if I were playing your campaign. I look forward to the next video!
Thanks, Danny. Please share this video! Each campaign update gets a few less views and I'm wondering if they're worth the 2 weeks effort.
@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 That actually saddens me as a fellow DM, because these videos spark my creativity to come up with inspired ideas for my own campaigns. Much like the Bone Road was i spired from Kingdom Death: Monster. I too have also thought of my own ideas of taking ideas from that game as well and making my own applications to my campaign
For DMs, this is an aspiring video. It also gives some campaign/adventure ideas.
Thanks for watching and sharing!
Love it! The paint jobs on your miniatures are so dark and atmospheric. It adds an amazing level of realism.
Thanks, Craig. I had fun painting those.
I want to make some of those terrain circles so bad! :) One stone, one grass, one sand, one ... something else....
Make one! It only takes an afternoon. I have a grass one too!
When ever I have a group encounter children of enemies or even monster children it causes all kinds of issues. Fun issues. I have had campaign groups, which were cohesive, break down when trying to decide what to do with a bunch of Goblin Brats. It is awesome.
Another great video.
Thank you Dungeon Craft and Professor DungeonMaster your videos have inspired me to start crafting and running my games in new ways! Thank you!!
Congratulations Goya!
You are very welcome and I appreciate you sharing the video!
I absolutely love these videos. I'm actually creating a new campaign with many ideas presented here. Thank you so much for making these
As always...left with wanting MORE. Great video Prof. Love the gritty content!
Thanks. Please share it Sean--the campaign vids are tough to make!
Great content sir!
I have watched most of your videos and since I also love the Basic edition of D&D I've started a game using most of the rules that you have mentioned. The first session was last night and it went very well, actually it went better than most games I have ever run. Thanks for the new tools my friend!
Thanks for watching, JR! Please bing-watch the other 70+ episodes!
Love The Chess Game. Totally stealing that.
Cool! Steal away!
Love the channel. First time I have ever been waiting for a youtube video to post!
I’ll have to rewatch all your videos with a notebook. The attention to detail is phenomenal!
Would still like to see the video with you and the teacher from New Dorp HS discuss your favorite classic adventures.
Working on that.
Awesome content! Very inspiring! Thank you for these videos!
My FAVORITE RUclipsr, and I don't even play D&D!!!
bjmccann1 Just curious-what is it about PDM that you like so much?
@@kerryoleary-spillane2689 His presentation is both entertaining and informative. His personality is relatable. Unlike many other RUclipsrs, he seems to be prepared. His videos seem to be scripted and well-rehearsed. They are well-edited, with no obvious mistakes left in. His integration of props is both interesting, and perfectly accompanies/illustrates the point that he is trying to make. Even though I don't play D&D, he has inspired me to take up painting miniatures.
bjmccann1 As his friend, I can attest to the fact what you see is what he’s like IRL. Glad you appreciate PDM and his productions. :-)
Cool! Thanks, bjmccann1. You are correct insofar as the videos are scripted and heavily prepared. Glad you took up painting minis. I have more mini videos on the way, but they don't get as many views as the other vids, so they aren't as frequent. Cheers!
This was awesome keep up the great work!!!! I really look forward to these campaign updates
Thanks, Mike! I'll keep making them!
Thanks for your videos. Especially the no initiative video. That mixed with you introducing me to ICRPG has really made my games exciting. Thanks Professor!
You're welcome! Spread the excitement by sharing your favorite vids!
That doctor. The cure is almost as bad as the disease there.
Love the doctor.
Love the concepts of your world
At 10:02 theres a bandit, all the way on the right, who is probably the coolest bandit miniature I've ever seen.
The shot with the three bandits in the doorway?
@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 yeah that one. Dude on the right would be my captain for sure.
@@machomanrandesavage9155 I got that guy in a bin at GenCon. He's an old D&D or Pathfinder rubber mini. Kind of bummed that I painstakingly painted most of the others--but I have to admit, he's the best pre-painted mini I've got!
@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 it's not even that he's a better overall miniature, he just has a look that appeals to me. And an axe. Axes are my jam.
@@machomanrandesavage9155 It's a cool axe, for sure.
This might come in handy for the bandit camp that I'm going to be adding to my campaign.
As always, top notch!
Thanks for your viewership!
Seriously Professor! This is awesome! I look forward to your videos with more anticipation than episodes of The Walking Dead, the older seasons, not the more recent not as good ones. I am in the early stages of making up my own rules, a mix of D&D, ICRPG, DCC, and Dungeon World, not to leave out your ideas as well. One question I have for you, is what is typical, if there is such thing, longevity of your campaigns? In the past, my campaigns either did not really finish, or as the characters continued to grow and get stronger, would typically end in some sort of climactic battle with the fate of the kingdom/world/universe in the balance. I get the sense that if there is any similarity to your campaigns, that you also would have some bigger overarching bad guy, but that the end goals would be less lofty. I guess that the dark rider, insect guy is the seed for the bigger story. Oh yeah, also, most of the players I’ve played with in the past always come into the campaign with ideas and plans on who and what they want their character terms to be. By your system, the choice is not so much theirs as the character generation is random. Is it as simple as you telling them in a “session 0”, that they should leave their preconceived notions of what they want to play at the door and just deal with what fate delivers to them?
Thanks for the comment Grendel. There's a lot to unpack here....my main campaign is 25+ years old. I will run other stories concurrent to that main story--which is what the Caves of Carnage is--most of the same players portraying new characters. My campaign resembles the Marvel MCU, with the heroes defeating a villain and a new major villain/arc arising to take its place. Re: character choices--the occupation is random, but once characters achieve first level they can re-arrange their stats and play anything they choose. Thanks for watching!
Sounds amazing.
Been waiting for this one!
Hope it was worth it!
Have been waiting for this!
Hope it was worth it.
@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 it for sure was. It makes me sad to wait another month for the next part. Is there any way we, as your viewers, can support you and your channel so that you could maybe speed up the production?
Cheers and greetings from Germany.
PS: Keep up the good work, you've clearly found your niche in DnD content that sets you apart from all those trashy clickbait channels.
6 Mounth's pregnant! Damn whene you say dark, you mean DARK.
Ever see the movie Flesh & Blood with Rutger Hauer? That's where I got that from.
Flesh and Blood is awesome. Love Jennifer Jason Leigh and Hauer!
Great ideas as always.
You're very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Congrats Goya on the win.
Congrats on the win Goya!
Congratz Goya! Definitely have been waiting for this episode. I really wished I had submitted my idea. Oh well. Great video. Prof DM, how do you incorporate devils/demons/celestials into your games?
Great question. They should be rare and terrifying. To see how I would do it, seek out Shadows Over Bogenhaffen" for Warhammer FRP. Best demon adventure ever.
Everything....brilliant
I'm more interested in how your players solved the problems, especially the moral dilemmas
I'm curious how your players do during these games. If I remember correctly most PC's will only have 10-20 HP during this and some of the fights seem pretty difficult. I'm more curious I guess if your players are particularly talented at tactics and so these is difficult but not super challenging or if it is as difficult as I think and the players are struggling and some even die? Thanks again for posting these, its exciting to hear about such a different take on how to run a game :)
Quality stuff!
Thanks!
Very exciting !!
Excellent!
All the details are great the part I struggle with is how to get this info to the players.
Thanks for sharing
Thank YOU!
Skunk weed :D cracked me up.
Skunk weed sounds interesting
I can't wait for those kids to grow up to seek vengeance for killing daddy. Assassin children... good stuff!
Randy! You must be new to grimdark : ). In 10 years the party will hear rumors that the orphans are inacting plans to seek vengeance. The party will preemptively attack, only to find out later the rumors were false planted by their real enemies.
@@nonenothing8783 , I was thinking more like the orphans' uncle's, sister-in-law's, brother's, neighbor's, dog's, love interest's, owner's, friend was a master assassin and teaches the kids enough skill within a years time. They probably know the basics already. Who's more dangerous than a piss boy with a grudge? Lol!
@@r.burger991 Also terrifying
Are you preparing the entire caves before playing or section by section while your players go through them. How to do you anticipate their next move while still keeping the open world feel of just having all the caves available?
Lol. Good question. Both. One key technique is to ask them WHICH cave they'll enter in the NEXT session. But in the last session my player Barbara convinced the party to skip the final cave on level 2 and skip to level 3--just to screw me up. She even said it! "Let's skip his cave because that's the one he WANTS us to go in!" Still love her though.
Quality every time. This is absolutely fantastic material. You are raising the bar for everyone in this game. I really hope the channel takes off so you are able to keep the content coming. Do you write at all? What are your literary influences?
Thanks, Richard! It WILL take off if you keep sharing these videos! Yes, I write. You can find some of my fiction at swords&sorcery.com. Search for "Gallows Dance" and ""Ex Libris", among others. Literary influences are Howard and Leiber, although I don't write as well as either of them. I LOVE Kim Newman's (writing at Jack Yeovil) Drachenfels!
Duh! I have a video called "Gallow's Dance Trailer." Look for it!
Cool story for certain.
Thank you!
Really cool
Thanks, Kev!
six month pregnant...tht's really a dangerous woman!
Moonsnow! Love it
Could it be that the Profesor took inspiration from the sacred mountain to make the introduction of the which?
Now we have to wait for another month to see how this developed... I would really like to know how the whole keystone story unfolds. And i want to know it now! ;)
We will dovetail back to it in a couple of episodes. It connects to the evil cleric.
Dungeon Craft not do be misunderstood: I really enjoy any of your videos about the campaign. All of the CoC videos are a goldmine for my own campaigns. I‘m just interested in the whole story arc
@@dnl1987 Sure thing!
I long this npcs so much
Check out the Reviled Society videos. I think you'll like them.
Great work, really like the detail.
I had an idea you might like,
I recently watched the movie called “Django, prepare a coffin” in where the main antagonist was wrongfully hung, survives the hanging, than poses as a hangman who who successfully fakes hanging many men who were also falsely accused.
He, and the men, then planed to enact revenge on the person who had them hanged.
Was a great movie, it got me researching other hangmen and lifestyles of well know executioners of the past.
I was wondering how you might think a good way to implement the grim life of an executioner into an adventure.
I was thinking first about a side quest like deal, but the more I thought on it they more I thought about an entire adventure!
Any ideas?
Could you do a video where you talk about all the encounters and... modules? you've written and give PDF versions with typed descriptions and scans of your 3D maps and the one flow chart in the description, I'd love to hear your retrospective thoughts on them, I know there would be a lot of a lot of work for that, but I would love to have printable version of these setups you do.
It's all on Patreon.
This is so morbid omg lol
SkunkWeed, funny!
Yay! First view and first comment. Another fun video. Thanks for posting these.
Beat you by a minute, but your comment is better.
I appreciate both your viewership!
More great ideas! I really liked the doctor actions/effects. Did you make the tiny bottles in the doctor's surgery? If so, how?
They are made by Whizkidz. Just paint them with wash-super easy!
@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 thanks, will do!
Well i didnt win all i will say is
To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow maybe tomorrow
Macbeth, Act V. well said.
Another awesome video, thanks. The only thing I don't like about your (or Index Card RPG's) system is using the same target number for ALL actions inside a given room. This makes no sense since depending on the situation some actions should be much more likely to succeed (like sneaking past a distracted orc guard versus trying to persuade him to let you pass). This system also takes away any meaningful strategy from your Players since any action has basically the same chance to succeed. Otherwise, great!
Mark Bianchin agreed with you 1000 percent. I bought ICRPG to support Hank because I liked his channel but the game itself was kinda like D&D for kindergartners
I really like the idea of the target number, but have had the same concerns. Icrpg accounts for that by putting -3 or +3 on the target number for “easy” or “hard” rolls.
Darby Wilson I disagree ICRPG target system essentially eliminates the need to even role up a character IMO
Exactly, I don’t like ICRPG system , having the same target numbers for all actions makes no sense for me also.
I dunno. I'm reading it now, the target number is DM adjudicated. Be a DM! Own that shit. If the players come up with something stupid let them pay for it. Death is a great teacher.
Congrats on 10,000 views. My channel is closing in on 1000! ~Brian
Another great video! Question though. I, myself, actually have a copy of ICRPG and am planning on using the target number system with my newly started 5e campaign. How do you account for very ridiculous rolls ("clown shoes ridiculous" to borrow a technical term from XDM) and make them difficult enough where they feel rewarding, yet still allow and promote player creativity? For example, what if the players want to try and convince the BBEG to join their adventuring party? Or seduce the dragon? Do you still use the room target number? Or do you add some sort of modification to account for the ridiculous nature of the roll? Again I don't want to stifle player creativity, but at the same time I don't want to make something crazy like that a super easy roll. This actually happened in my first session last week and the players almost convinced Klarg the bugbear to join them in the town of Phandalin and it was loads of fun! That being said, I'm worried that it was just a fluke because the party rolled really well. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks again, great content as always!!!
I once designed an adventure for Dungeon Magazine that centered around an evil sorceress who was poisoning her husband to death. I got a fan letter from a DM who said one of his players was in love with her and wanted to know if he could convert her too good. I said, "Lesrah will go along with it, swear she's even up here evil ways, have the cleric baptize her, and spend every day in church praying. Then, exactly one year to the day she will smother that PC with a pillow. Because she's evil." Even a natural 20 cannot convince a creature do do something that is not in its nature. Scorpions sting. Tigers eat meat. Bugbears eat people. A natural 20 means Klarg is mildly amused by the PCs and isn't very hungry--so he doesn't club them to death. Cheers!
I love your channel, and I love your content. I appreciate your DM style, skill, and passion. You put many of my thoughts into words, and give me so many new ideas for making the game unique. From one old-school gamer to another; respect.
One question: Why are hallucinogenic mushrooms always associated with monsters? I have noticed this with a lot og fellow GMs, but it never made sense to me. Did a lot of DMs have a bad time back in the day?
Modern research on psychoactive compounds indicate that they foster intimacy, playfulness, creativity, and empathy. Duzzat sound like a cannibalistic monster past-time to anyone else? Sounds more like druid, ranger, halfling, and wood elf recreational materials.
I think murderous creatures are much more likely to be into alcohol, amphetamine-like substances, PCP-analogues, and really sketchy stuff like dirty heroin, krokodil and jenkem. Stuff that really messes up your mind and body on a single use, is highly addictive, and promotes high pain tolerance and frenzy.
Your edgy campaigns gave me the idea of having proficiency with dismembered body parts. Perhaps an executioner or chef class or something with a cannibal feat.
Hello ! Why would someone ask for the barbers surgeries once you have clerics with lay on hands in your world?
Very nice vid! Keep on with this great work!!
Clerics are super-rare in my world. No clerics in the keep.
Sorry to bother you again, what about PC playing as clerics, I imagine that this situation would brake the barber role, that I found fantastic!
@@joaoburlamaqui The Keep has a priest. This priest cannot cast spells but can ordain clerics, enabling THEM to cast spells. This costs a 100gp donation to the church. This will be explained in the June episode. Thanks for watching, subbing, and sharing!
I know this video is two years old but I'm watching it for inspiration in my caves of chaos game.
The only thing that bewilders me about this video. Is the part where you say it's easier to justify players killing monsters then humans.
Honestly I don't understand this is the slightest. In every game I have run. It almost been seen as easier for players to murder humans on mass then monsters like orcs, kobolds, and the like.
I'm just amazed that you came to that conclusion when I have had such a wildly diffrent experience over the years.
Your bandit figures are great! Are they plastics? Some of them remind me of the FrostGrave figures.
Several of them are sold Warhammer Fantasy miniatures. The leader is Reaper.
did the players ever get to 1st level and what classes? By the way you have a great channel and I am going to change some of the ways I have run campaigns for 30 years!
Some of those bandit minis are really cool. Where did you acquire them?
I wish I knew. I got them in a booth at GenCon. Can't remember the company name for the life of me. It was probably the same company as the minis in my "Tell-Tale Heart" video. Seek that one out and go to their web-page.
Cool. Who did the guest voice acting as the witch?
That was Adhesive Tom. Just kidding. My friend Kerry. She's also on "Gallows Dance Trailer."
Millhouse, all grown up.
@John O Is that too much for you to believe, John?
I can see it.
So where did the players find the ivory wand? Was it in a special room or did a monster drop it (I remember from another video that they did find it down there). I'd love if you did a video on more cool dungeon elements like puzzle-type rooms, especially because of your focus on there being a reason for everything in a dungeon.
so prop silly question, but what is the paper called u make maps on
What minis are the minis that look like civilians and orks?
If you show up at town with a corpse, you tell people it's a bandit's corpse, and say to them I would like to collect my 10 gold, do they just believe you? How do you prove it's a bandit? Is there a possibility they just accuse you of murdering some guy and trying to take advantage of the city's offer of a reward for your profit?
Just curious what rules you use concerning regaining HP? If I just rest for a day how many HP do I get back?
Dr Shakes seems like a really really shaky alternative to just resting for a day or two. That way I don’t lose any digits arms legs eyes etc
Natural healing is 1hp per day of complete rest. Maximum hit points for all characters is 10+CON bonus. So a 2nd level fighter with +2 CON has 12, and so does a 31st level fighter with the same CON.
How do you force your players to seek drugs when addicted?
How exactly does fighting the bandits, who are murderers, robbers, cannibals, and slavers who knowingly sell captured persons to orcs and goblins to be eaten, qualify as “mass murder”?
How did the party defeat the orcs?
I do not remember. Check out the Caves of Carnage Orc video.
what sort of wound system do you use, professor?
Hit points. Maximum hit points is 10+CON bonus.
Have your players played the level? Did they survive?
No. Not yet. Heh, heh, heh....
What are the miniatures for bandits?
Head bandit is Reaper and I'm not sure--might be Miniature Building Authority. I got the rest at GenCon.
Do a video on drawing maps!!!!
I really recommend Wyloch's tutorial. He does it so well. I can only do it worse.
Professor, I know you many use humans as the core race in your setting. I had a question. Do you use the 5e racial modifiers for humans when it comes to ability scores? Just curious and would like some insight ...* rolls D20 and prays for a 20 !*
I believe all races are equal. No one should be judged by their modifiers, but on the strength of their character. So no one gets anything.
Dungeon Craft your wisdom continues to astound ! My thanks
I'm not sure how do you do it. In my games as soon as the level of lethality and consequnces raises, the less likely the players are to visit any dungeon.
We rather play happy heroic heroes who can simply rest and heal as needed. If I would tell them they can loose a leg while healing, the next few sesions they will end up sitting at local inn being careful not to stab themselves with a fork.
@Antoninus Pius they do care about their characters. Few times they've skipped some quests they were given, just because they were to deadly.
Actually it does make sanse.
do you paint these minis yourself?
Yes. Occasionally I employ the help of Adhesive Tom (see painting 70 minis in 7 hours).
Dungeon Craft I just want to say that your really good at painting them!!
@@scorn5299 That's very kind of you. I"m no Sam Lentz or James Wappel, but I'll take it!
