Anyone else watching this for an art class for some reason? Like I definitely agree with the message, but it feels like a warning from the professor of: don't sell your soul by going into advertising.
@@oldmate99 yep the architect. .has rebuilt the matrix... it was anolog. but now it's gone digital .. scratch that 5G'z..... soon we'll be getting ads in our sleep!!
Naive assumptions. Consumers also filter content they watch on TV. They have agencies, different realities, subjectivities. They aren't merely passives; they shape the world around them.
With the proliferation of analog horor, the fact that this video has a weird mix of dystopian ravings on the "New Media State" scrolling past with random elevator music in the background makes this video unnecessarily unsettling.
Although I’m not sure this is the original video (it actually doesn’t seem to be), the original was just like this, with text scrolling on the screen and muzak playing in the background. If this is a recreation of the original, we should actually encourage it to be as faithful to the original as it can be. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_Delivers_People
This may not even be the original video. The other copy I saw on youtube was obviously dubbed from an analog videotape. This looks "too clean" -- Curious thought... (I first saw this video on Public TV in Chicago in early 1980's I was astounded at the time. Glad that some kind of a copy still exists.)
This is whole video disgusts me. If you're not able to understand for yourself that Television provides just one side of every story (i.e. CNN, FOX, NBC etc.) then you shouldn't be watching television in the first place. "Media asserts an influence over an entire cultural spectrum without effort or qualification"? She's insulting the intelligence of everyone who is involved in Marketing and Brand advertising. This propaganda that you speak of is how businesses create consumers. This isn't some government conspiracy. Were not being controlled by the government through television. Open your eyes.
She? This is a piece of video art created by Richard Serra, and HIS piece was made in 1973. (I recognize that I'm literally just restating simple information from the title, but sometimes it's easy to miss.) That makes this piece 45 years old at this point. Since the first broadcast station for television wasn't around until 1928 (45 years before this was created and 90 years prior to this exchange), you can see why it was a different time. We do take knowledge like what you shared for granted now, but that's because of pioneering artists and philosophers of the past. So please take more into consideration than just the video itself, the setting is important as well.
There is actually a good point in here. There certainly is qualification in making good tv, if the shows were all terrible for every audience, people would have stopped watching, even in 1973?
extremely and exponentially ahead of its time
Familiar with “Amusing Ourselves To Death”?
Amazing. I have thought this for decades, but rarely hear others state it so plainly.
Richard Serra on the Fender rhodes everybody, give him a hand
Thanks for sharing!

Same lol. I like the message but being a video we have to watch for an art class is kind of odd somehow.
yup. my art has dramatically improved because of this strange youtube video!!!
brilliant insight
Great
Raf Simons definitely watched this at some point for SS03
Well done - too bad the masses won't disconnect from the TV/matrix and wake up

Wake up and do what? Be homeless? You can’t change the system by yourself.
Tv is just a media of it, it won't stop
Some have ... they have joined the RUclips matrix instead!
love this work. it would be accurate for you to add Carlota Fay Schoolman as they were an equal partner in it's making
I thought midwives delivered people? Now I don't know what to believe...
Midwives have been replaced by doctors, much to everyone's detriment.

It seems to be a teleprompter.
This is not the original soundtrack.
