I know this was posted 5 years ago, and did enjoy the video. A small piece of advice for those who "suffer" from motion sickness, having done many ferry crossings and ocean liner voyages. The best cure or avoidance of sea sickness, is to get on deck and find a place where you can see the actual horizon. Look at the horizon, it is the only static thing you have to relate to, the horizon doesn't move. This satisfies the brain with information to satisfy the balance for you inner ear, and you won't get sick. Very simple stuff. I do hope you had a pleasant return voyage.
Hello from Texas! Found your videos looking for a game plan for our trip to New Zealand. My hubby and I are definitely considering renting a camper van in South Island now. Love your videos and now a subscriber.
Ah, Picton... the home of my childhood holidays. My grandmother lived there and I travelled the ferry often. I'm looking forward to seeing your North Island adventures.
enjoy, fellow New Zealander here! Alyssa is right! There is no other means of travel than road-tripping! I just finished binge watching myself. I thumbed up this one especially!
Used to be quite a few ferries over the years but only 2 run by Kiwirail....awesome trip though I did it last year from Picton to Nelson first time only thing very expensive for food so take your own food, wifi gets very weak as you get half way through the cook strait
Andy M it really did help a ton. I’ve found the older I get the more I struggle with motion sickness. Hate it, but such a beautiful ride so worth it :). - heath
Wish I could have seen more of the terrain from the Ferry. I take the ferries in Seattle every once in a while just for the views. They are gorgeous on a clear day.
Carolyn Burelbach I’ve never been on the ferry in Seattle but after our next trip to Canada we’ll likely be passing through so we should hop on and give it a go. But yes, the views we did capture were just incredible. If I didn’t get sea sick I would try to ride this ferry a ton :P- heath
You can get some terrible weather in the strait, but if you pick a good day it's not so bad. We visited your neck of the woods on our boat and sailed Wellington on a lovely day and took the ferry another time. It's a beautiful trip. But even then you could see the Karori rip kicking it up a bit even though we timed the current and winds well.
Welcome to the 'coolest little capital in the world'. But Heath and Alyssa why are you just passing straight through? Make sure you allow some time on your return trip to see our place. Aside from our awesome waterfront walk there is our national museum Te Papa, Weta Workshops (think Lord of the Rings, think The Hobbit, think King Kong), our botanic gardens just up the top of the cable car............. So come see
darrellxp one thing we’ve learned about NZ is that it’s one of our favorite places ever and we’re already planning our return trip to come and do the things we missed. This kinda has been our MO when it comes to travel - cover lots of ground and then go deeper when we can come back. All this to say, we definitely want to spend more time in Wellington. :) - heath
Wasn’t there a way to get your RV there? I’m sure there’s a ship u could’ve take a ship from the US. I’ve seen RV’s from Europe here in the US so I’m sure there is a way.
You could, but American RVs are much larger and everything's on the opposite side as it should be in NZ. Plus most of the electrical hookups in NZ are only 20 AMP and our rig needs 50 AMP. It wouldn't be wortg it to try to ship it over.
Heath and Alyssa Padgett True, But there’s always a small Class C or a Class B plus you could always use a Class B. Plus there’s always generators. I’m not trying to cause an issue I’m just trying to save you guys some $ so you can enjoy your travels more.
I understand what you're trying to say, but the cost of shipping it alone would be the same if not more than what our rental cost. Plus with the additional hassles a different RV brings, it would not be worth it. If you want to experience campervanning in New Zealand, you want a New Zealand campervan!

Traveling to New Zealand is on my bucket list for sure. Watching the episodes of you trip via RV has been very insightful.
Thanks Deborah! It's an amazing country. We can't recommend it enough!
Avid podcast listener here, and now new subscriber! Love the authentic content you bring!
TheBarbeWay thanks for listening to me talk a whole bunch :) - heath

I am planning my whole rv Australia/New Zealand trip off your videos.... 😂! Looked like an amazing ferry ride!
Another great video of your trip! I especially loved the music in this one (would love to see a playlist?)
It's all from Epidemic Sound! This one was "Faster Car" by Loving Caliber. You can find it on Spotify!
Everybody gangsta and hoping for a storm until they actually hit the Cook Strait.

We really liked Picton! Such a cute little town.
New sub to your channel. Loving it. Gonna binge watch a lot this weekend.

Out on the cook strait is where it usually gets rough, so you're def not whimps!!
Looking at the horizon is the best way to get over motion sickness.

Wonderful video heath n Alyssa ! Guess ferry is the only option to travel btwn Islands !! All d best ! Love from India !!
The landscape is stunning 😍
Right?!? We are so in love with everywhere in NZ 💙
I hope you got to see downtown Wellington talk about brilliant food and beer and coffee and the Te Papa museum
Only down side of Welly are always those damn roads. Worse than Auckland, and that's saying something.

yaaay!! welcome to the north island!! go to rotorua?!
Will post that video later this week :)
How do you keep the rental RV floor clean while traveling for such a long period of time?
They provide a broom and dustpan and then we used cleaning wipes on the floor when needed.
I always get sea sick on the ferry LOL

Heath and Alyssa Padgett I got u, ok. Thx.
You missed the queen Charlotte drive.🤭
Marc Vergroesen the drive is how we got to Picton! We just didn’t vlog it.
Cook Straight is the worst water crossing in the world it can be so rough even on the sunniest of days
