Sometimes I really wonder where all those glass bottles come from. Mainly the smaller ones.

Yeah, me too. Probably some people drinking next to see river and throwing their bottles right in :(

You inspired me. I was going to the dump today to dispose of old paint and I took a big trash bag and picked up plastic and other trash on the way.

@@pickuptrash It helps to see others do it doesn't it? Thank you for doing this and posting it. You never know how many ripples there will be when you throw a stone in the water.

Absolutely! Who knows how far this channel will come in the next few years and how many other people we will inspire :)

Could you give some statistics about the river you clean? Population density? How is household trash getting in the river? Why are so many alcohol bottles? is this where where people drink? Why is the Styrofoam so broken down?
So many questions but you are an example to us all
    Cheers

I have been cleaning up a river as a volunteer. So I think I have some information on trash from river and lake. If you need such information to clean up your area or something else, let me know.

Hey Wayne, sorry for the wait. I was on a bikepacking vacation. The river I clean is 59 km long. The population density where I clean is 175 people/km^2 and gets lower upstream. As for the household trash, I have no idea. We have a solid garbage collection system. I can only theorize where the bottles come from, either the local youth or some alcoholic lives next to the river.
Thank you very much for your support:)

Thanks for your feedback. I hope to visit Germany in the next 18 months and would like to visit the river you are working hard to rescue from trash. I trust you feel you are making difference in the battle against trash.
      Cheers

A great work! I've also been picking up trash from river. Ya... There are lots of trash there. According to my experience, strainer is more convenient than fishing net. I attached a long and lightweight stainless steel bar to the strainer, making it easier to pass water while picking up trash from the river.

Thank you :) Very interesting, I'll look into that :D

@@pickuptrash I also used a fishing net to pick up trash from the water, but it wasn't very convenient because the nylon mesh net would get caught on various objects. However, I managed to overcome this difficulty by using a strainer.

Yeah, this net is already ripping apart. We were planning to build a new one out of some metal mesh we found during a Cleanup and thus replace the cheap plastic mesh :D

They should take the trees from the river. It will be easier to pick upp bottles and trash.

    • @pickuptrash

Yeah, but if it wasn't for all the debris, all the trash would already be in the ocean :/

Do beavers live in these waters, or is the river not deep enough for them? Nice trash fishing.

    • @pickuptrash
      @pickuptrash  6 месяцев назад +1

I think there are no beavers in the area. Thank you :)
