Metal Detecting for Lost Canoe Paddles!

- Today I'm going metal detecting for canoe paddles in a dam with my Nokta Legend metal detector, to try and return them to the land owners!
There were a few other surprises to be found...
** Yes, I mistakenly refer to the paddles as 'oars' numerous times in this video. I've since learned the difference. Sorry, folks 😂

I’m in OAR at the quality of this production, good work finding them Mish 🎉
Oh, you 🤣
Just a sprinkling of TBP inspiration with the drone work! Can’t wait to Nemo this spot even though it’ll be zero-vis. Cheers mate 😁
Hey, Mish! Since I have lived in areas in the southern US, when you said you were going to get in that water, my first thought was alligators. The southern states don't have crocodiles like you mentioned, just alligators, you know, the ones with nicer teeth (yes, crocs need to see an orthodontist. Their teeth are a mess) You just don't get in waters like that unless you are absolutely certain some gators haven't made it their home.
If you do decide to go diving there, I was wondering what the visibility will be like especially once you begin to kick up some mud. In your other underwater dives the mud dissipates rather quickly because of the moving currents. You won't have that benefit there so you'll be blind a large part of the time. Better take your pinpointer!
I know you said the wave ring was just a junker, but I really liked the concept of that design with the waves moving along the ring. I actually looked it up and found out that there are many of those styles still available. I might have to get one for myself since you know how I feel about not being near a beach anymore. I miss the waves and surfing and that ring would be a nice connection to those days. (Hint for more wave crashing scenes in your next summer beach series).
Nice drone work, Al!
And as always, looking forward to your next adventure, Mish! Later, friend!
You astonished me with that insert lure. I had no idea that people fished for insects with lures. I was gob smacked.
Nice going Mish. Gee the water muddies up quickly when you start bringing things to the surface. Good you got a couple of oars and a few other interesting finds. Well done. Take care mate 😁👍
Yeah, a dive will be zero-vis for sure, but there’s still a few tricks that can be employed to navigate around. I’m sure I’ll be able to get more with the Nemo. The land owner informs me that one of these paddles was lost again the next week. 😂 Cheers mate.
Great hunt! Can’t wait to see diving video. Something different , congratulations ❤
Ditto! The dive sounds interesting.
Hi Mish, Great video, I'm not so sure about diving in that water. It looks sort of scary to me, but if you feel safe, yes dive it to see what else you might find yourself. Maybe you can find some more oars for them.
Take care and stay safe till next time. ❤️
Thank you Skye! Definitely the sort of location that requires a capable swimmer on standby, just in case. I had a whole team of people with me on the day - that was my husband in the canoe, plus several others on the perimeter. The same will be employed when I return for a dive. Cheers 😄
What a different adventure for you 👩🏻🦯exploring the water for oars ! If it were hot it would have been a great way to cool off. Have a great weekend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It was reasonably warm on the day, so very pleasant to be wading! Have a lovely weekend also.
that video was so cool, something totally different. I was wondering about gators or crocs in a dam like that, thanks. Love from Florida
I live way too far south for crocs, it is too cold for them here. There is a chance of snakes but that’s about the only dangerous critter I’d encounter in this spot. Cheers David, glad you enjoyed 😊
@@DirtFishMish I was wondering about the crocs.
Like 115 hi Mish, great location, wow, great hunt as always 💪
Great footage think the drone shots from above add something edited beautifully as always
Well done! Great hunt ....lot of hard work wading in the mud. Hubby got some great drone shots!
Thanks Roberto! I keep nudging him to get more drone footage, while we can’t launch it at every spot we will try to build up a collection to represent the areas I hunt. Cheers mate 😄
Any hunt that you find sinkers is special. Rings are nice additions. Quite a different type of hunt. Variety is the spice of life. Be careful in the muck. Cheers!!
Someone else said the land owner should attach sinkers to the paddles and then I’ll find them easily. 😂 I was very cautious here - definitely stuck to the perimeter on this one, it wasn’t worth the risk to detect on the steeper surfaces! Cheers Mike.
Fun day!! You were successful and also found some rings!! Nice work.
Cheers mate! Something a bit different, hey 😄 I’m sure there’s paddles up your way somewhere that’d need recovering as well!
Metal rings are always good finds.
Oar Inspiring Mish 😂Interesting change to the normal sites.Impressed with the Nokta Legend under water
Ohhhh, puns. 😆 thank you Joe! It performs very well in the water for sure.
Oar-some video, something different…. Amazing how many people lose junk rings, they pop up everywhere, but at least you found some sinkers🤣🤣
I am loving the puns that you're all throwing at me this morning, so good!! 😆
Thank goodness I found some sinkers, normality has been restored to an otherwise very different detecting video. 😂 Cheers Jeff!
Another great adventure Mish. Well done 👍
I love this video! I saw it when you first posted it, but I've been on a coughing jag for a couple of weeks and couldn't keep my fingers on the keyboard long enough to comment. LOL!
I'm looking forward to the sequel. Take care and God bless, Mish! ♥️
Oh Tana, I hope you're on the mend now! Glad you liked this slightly different form of treasure hunt, I had a lot of fun putting this one together. Now I just have to figure out how to present the diving equivalent - cameras above and below, since the visibility underwater will be poor! Cheers :)
Always interesting , thanks for sharing!
Cheers!
I'm keen on watching round 2
A diving video would be great!
I was thinking you would dive this time so I definitely want to see your next trip.
I had some diving gear with me, but not the right configuration to give it a proper go so today’s adventure was to gauge the composition of the dam base and it’s depth, and now I know it’ll be the perfect training ground with the Nemo despite the visibility issues. Looking forward to it - I’ll return before the weather gets too cold! 😊
You are brave heading off into that water. Great job.
I would like to see you dive there God Bless stay safe
Gosh that was some dirty pond! 😮
hehe yeah, I think there's still some fish life in there that stirs up the silt. Detecting takes you to some strange places sometimes, lol!
You found more today than I did. I was also in sludge along a river. No good finds but lots of rubbish. And mud. It would be interesting to see what the visibility is in that dam. All the best from Hobart.
I’m sorry the finds didn’t work out on your hunt, but I do hope it was at least a nice peaceful day out. Vis would be a couple of feet until I start kicking, but I’ve got some ideas on how I could make the footage work. 😁 Cheers Pamela!
So cool! And a diving video would be awesome!
Noted! There will be a different underwater hunt coming very soon which I am super excited to release. Keep an eye out for that 😄 Cheers!
Loved this fun ‘different’ video.. Sinker Squad 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Awesome Mish! Would love to see a dive video looking for more oars & goodies 😃
Definitely able to go back here, I'll make it happen before the temps drop too much! :) 🤙
@@DirtFishMish OARsome, definitely not OARdinary.. 🤙🏻😂
@@leeclyma 😆😆😆
Looks like you had fun. Happy Days :)
Sure did! Cheers 😄
Hi Mish i think itd be great to watch you do a dive in there, something different and interesting
The visibility will be horrific but I definitely think we can find some more paddles that way! I'll get a dive in as soon as I can. :)
Looks good fun and sinkers as well x
I can'r wait to see diving video.I enjoyed your video.
Thanks Jimmy 😁
I hope you can try water detecting soon, it is very relaxing! Cheers :)
Hi Mish I have to agree with the comments that you did really considering the clay conditions. I was feeling every step with you I was exhausted at the end but dry. Rings were cool wish they had been gold or silver. Till the next time .💍💍👍👍
Thanks Roy! It was indeed exhausting, as I was constantly stabilising myself and could only take baby steps for safety purposes. It’ll be easier as a dive, poor visibility but much more comfortable to navigate. Cheers!
Very nice video sir
You’re thinking Bogey, Hepburn, and the African Queen, I’m guessing!
Thanks for the video.
Hola amiga, te felicito por tu video y ese lindo lugar para detectar, éxito en sus aventuras y hallazgos, saludos cordiales desde chile para usted amiga 🙋♂️🇨🇱⛏️👍👏🤝
Thank you Talca!
It would be good if you came back to this place
Most certainly doable. I’ll try to sort out a Nemo dive before it gets too cold 😊
Fairly successful hunt from the depth of water you had to contend with
Thanks mate, bit of a challenging spot, can’t wait to try and Nemo it!
@DirtFishMish Not sure how good your visibility will be though
@@oges74 it’ll be near-zero - but with cameras both above and below, I should still be able to tell the story. 😄
I was wondering whether diving would be any good, I imagine it would be a tad bit murky, especially once you stir it up a bit while digging, but yep i'd certainly be going back there, theres a good chance there is a few quality rings in there as well, more likely than coins, a lot of paddling and a lot of wet hands out over the water, take a yabbi net with you, you could get a good feed out of there if your lucky...Depending on how many times they had to replace lost oars, you might be digging up a few dozen, Have fun Mish, Definitely a different hunt and an interesting site as well! Cheers!
Hiya Wayne! The visibility will be minimal I’m sure, which presents a fun challenge for presenting the story however there is also the option of adding above-water footage in to tell the story. I’m keen to give it a shot at either rate. There’ll be at least several more paddles to find! Cheers mate and I hope you get out hunting this weekend. 😁
@@DirtFishMish Its a pretty warm day today, so going for a dip in the pond might be kind of refreshing, At the moment detecting is on the back burner, even though its constantly on my mind, and im arguing with myself about priority's, im just at the beginning of dismantling my bungalow, after doing the same with my garden shed, concrete slabs, contents and all, pull it apart, transport, level the ground and reassembled. The bungalow will take a lot longer, and will be nowhere near as easy, ive given myself the afternoon off to take a break, plus its hot and windy and removing roofing irons not a good idea on a day like today, And my enthusiasm for the job is not high at the moment, so recuperate and start again tomorrow! I cant wait for it to be over and done with! and i can get back to a regular detecting life and routines! at least i get to enjoy your hunts in the meantime, thank you for that! Oh! and the drone footage was a great idea, adds a whole new dimension, Cheers Mish!
Dam fine video!
Sorry....I'll see myself out.....
🤣🤣🤣 dad jokes are actively encouraged on this channel. Love it!
@@DirtFishMish lol!
Not sure how a zero visibility dive will go on go pro, but im keen to see what you come up with!
It’s all in the storytelling - including shots of the action from above the water, holding the dive watch and/or finds up close to the mask etc. A fun little editing challenge I’m sure, but I’m keen to give it a go! There’s a much clearer diving hunt coming soon which I’m very excited for, keep an eye out. 😊
Return soon for the adventures of... "Bond. Jane Bond. Shaken, not stirred."
Of course, you know the solution -- have the owner tie a lead sinker to each oar, you'll find it in a jiffy!
Now there's an idea - I'll find them super quickly if there's sinkers attached! 🤣
Was that the Jaws soundtrack I heard.
Possibly 😂
That was hard work,,, walking in wet clay is like walking in glue pits. Glad you made it out safe and sound....Mish the all terrain Warrior! but since it is soooooooooo clayish and muddy won't it muck up your diving gear? oh I used to spear fish and in zero visibility it is impossible to see what is right in front of you, be careful barbed wire underwater is no fun at all. Cheers and stay safe please.
Glue pits is a very accurate description! 😂 Re: the gear, as long as I don’t drag the base of the Nemo through the clay it should be fine, I’ve got a pretty good gear cleaning routine after every dive these days (as typically I have to rinse off salt and sand). It’ll be zero vis for sure, but only a small zone and the biggest risks will be fishing line and lures, I always keep a knife at hand for this! Cheers.
Hey Mish, those dam are not good for finding stuff with dive gear, done it a couple of times and it is just pitch black down there, feel only and orientation is a bugger.
Just goes to show that any body of water can hide lost treasures.
Cheers and happy Hunting
Brad
Oh it’ll definitely be zero-vis as soon as I move, but a blind dive will be OK in this spot. My dive comp has an integrated compass to make things easier (even if I have to press it up to my nose to see it, lol!). 😊
Would a small dinghy be useful if you were to do it again so that you can use it to ‘carry’ tools, finds etc? :)
Possibly would have been handy in this case, however I did have support on both the bank and also in a canoe so it wasn’t too bad. 😊
Up the old ship creek
I was tempted to say I was up the creek without a paddle, pity it wasn't a creek 😂
Are you coming up for the Wedderburn Jamboree next weekend?
@@thegoldrushguy nope sorry, I’ll check it out someday though! I typically work weekends. 😊
I would enjoy a dive search video... Thanks for another FUN video... Be blessed in Jesus name... BBE...
Thanks Bobby, I’ll make arrangements to get back there!
💙🇦🇺🤿
It’s not golf clubs, but close enough 😂
Now that was changing things up. Whenever someone has me look for something other than a ring on private property I always seem to find someone else interesting. Looked like not to much trash in the water that always makes it a more enjoyable hunt! Nicely done with the rings! 💍💍🛶
Not trashy at all here apart from that one drink can, so it’ll be a good practice ground for zero-vis diving! Cheers Marc 😄
I enjoyed seeing this - maybe we should try magnet 🧲 fishing 😊
Speedy!! I can bring our magnet down next visit!! The kids and I go magnet fishing to our dirty lake here. Amazing what it picks up. ps Love Mish’s vids. They are the best huh!!
Thank you both! 🥰 Speedy, interesting you should touch on this - I’ll likely be giving it a go for the first time this month, I’m on the road in a few weeks for some adventures and this is one of the many possibilities!
Happy hunting to you both! 😁
@@DirtFishMish that’s awesome. You’re always welcome to my hood! Great variety of treasure hunting here. As long as you don’t tell anyone about my secret sites 🤫 🤣🤪🤫
