2014 Suzuki GSX-R 750 is the bike that is being worked on however most bikes are very similar. Any bike that has spacers, a nut, or an axle needs maintenance just like every other portion of the motorcycle. If you do not maintain these pieces on your motorcycle your axle could seize on the bearings because the bearing is steel and the axle is aluminum. Some bikes may have a steel axle and this is a plus for Galvanic corrosion (See Below Link). Steel to Steel still needs cleaned however and coated so it does not rust because the likely hood of the paint or other coatings coming off is high and oxidation is much more of a factor on steel than aluminum.

The only thing we don't discuss in this video is axle threads. Most people do not need to worry about this but those with locking nuts (not castle nuts) will need to buy a DIE that fits their threads and re thread the axle from time to time.
