LYRICS:
People wasting away
In paradise
Going backwards, once in a while
Taking your time, give it a try
What do you believe, what do you believe
What do you believe is true?
Nothing they say makes a difference this way
Nothing they say will do
You take all the trouble that you can afford
At least you won't have time to be bored
At least you won't have time to be bored
Oh the power and the passion, oh the temper of the time
Oh the power and the passion
Sometimes you've got to take the hardest line
Sunburnt faces around, with skin so brown
Smiling zinc cream and crowds, Sundays the beach never a cloud
Breathing eucalypt, pushing panel vans
Stuff and munch junk food
Laughing at the truth, cause Gough was tough til he hit the rough
Uncle Sam and John were quite enough
Too much of sunshine too much of sky
It's just enough to make you want to cry
It's just enough to make you want to cry
Oh the power and the passion, oh the temper of the time
Oh the power and the passion
Sometimes you've got to take the hardest line
I see buildings, clothing the sky, in paradise
Sydney, nights are warm
Daytime telly, blue rinse dawn
Dad's so bad he lives in the pub, it's a underarms and football clubs
Flat chat, Pine Gap, in every home a Big Mac
And no one goes outback, that's that
You take what you get and get what you please
It's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees
It's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees
Oh the power and the passion, oh the temper of the time
Oh the power and the passion
Sometimes you've got to take the hardest line

Seriously the best live broadcast of a band. The ABC should have won awards.
That Rob Hirst drum solo - still sending chills down the spine
Simply amazing. When you listen to this record, you assume there is no way they can pull this off live.
No one could've done song like Power & Passion as good as it was done or written those particular lyrics but AUSSIES!!
"Sydney!, nights are warm, daytime telly, blue rinse storm...Dads so bad he lives in the pub, under Arms & Football clubs,
Flat chat, Pine Gap, everyone a Big Mac & no one goes out-back & that's that" Too much of sunshine too much of sky, makes me feel like I want to cry". Beautiful & so very Australian, this song!!~~~~ Oils @French's on Tuesdays EVERY NIGHT for a long time!!~~~~!~
This is fantastic! The harmonies!! Really surprisingly good sound! A triumph!
At their peak, pure Australian mongrel. Saw them up and down the east coast, and even at ANU at $2 a head. It is hard to describe how strongly this band could reach out and grab you by the scruff of the neck. They barreled down the highway like a road train and flattened you like roadkill. Undoubtedly the best I have seen.
13:35 look how tall is the mic stand 😂 When I saw them in 2017, the concert was about to start and the guy was assembling the stage. He put all in place and went backstage, then he came back, measured a few palms above his own head and raised the central mic stand.
Love the Oils! How do they get better than the studio albums?
There is so much to comment about the performance, I'm just going to touch on the work between Moginie, Rotsey, and Gifford right after the drum solo. It was short, but so sweet. @ 6:56 until the vocals come back in.
Love Hirsty's drumming on the first four albums.
they have the power...... and the passion
Goat Island quartet at full blast!
The hammer and the sickle The news is at a trickle...
Incredible
A special think about Taylor Hawkins (foo fighter drummer's) on this song that were covered with power and passion ! :)
For the last time this is I Dont Want to Be the One . not Power and the Passion duh!
Starts at 3:04
Goat island quartet
