  • Tokyo Street Food Tour in Ameya Yokocho Market in Ueno Japan. Ameya-yokochō aka Ameyoko Street Food Market is a Japanese Street food area in Tokyo. This Tokyo Food Guide will show you my Top 7 Street Food Spots in Ameyoko Market. There are many Tokyo Street Food areas, but what sets Ameya Yokocho Market from the rest of the Japanese street food markets in Tokyo is that it has a healthy mix of international foods, especially Chinese food. The Ameyoko Food is one of a kind and Japan tourists and travelers of all ages will enjoy the unique market food offerings as well as the market style atmosphere. Ameyoko Food Tours are common, but I would like to share with you my favorite food spots in this What to Eat Guide in Tokyo Ueno Ameya Yokocho. We try Chinese Oden, Sho ron tan pao, Fresh seafood crab, Yaki Shoronpo, Korean Cheese Hot Dog, Takoyaki and Menchi Katsu.
Ameya-Yokochō (アメヤ横丁 Ameya alley) is an open-air market in the Taito Ward of Tokyo, Japan, located next to Ueno Station. The market is approximately 164,227 square feet in area, starting just behind the Yodobashi Camera building and following the Yamanote Line south until the Komuro building.
There are two theories on the etymology of Ameya. The first is that the name came from ameya (飴屋 candy shop), because of all the candy stores that lined the street in the early post-war era when sugar was hard to come by. Even now, there are stores selling candy there. The second theory is that it refers to アメリカ(America); there used to be stores selling surplus American army goods just after World War II. In either case, it is now commonly referred to simply as ameyoko (アメ横).
The market is home to over one hundred and eighty one shops, which sell products ranging from fresh food and fish to clothing and time pieces.
Traditional Ueno is known for its ornate shrines, including 17th-century Benzaiten temple, which stands on an island in Ueno Park. Nearby, the open-air Ameya-Yokochō market sells a vast range of food, clothes and accessories.

Thank you so much for the info. We just got back from Tokyo and I loved the stand with the sake! Two massive oysters and a big cup of sake for 1000 yen! The cheese dogs were a hit with the kids and the takoyaki from the shop you recommended was well worth the line. Can I make a suggestion for a video, hidden luggage lockers in the main Tokyo spots near train stations. Love your videos!

You should do a video about foreign food in Tokyo, like tacos, pasta, burgers, pizza, lobster roll...
Many people don't know that Japanese people know how to cook everything so well !
Taco tip: Shibuya Mexican Casa de Sarara
Sooo good, the chef has been to Mexico to learn about the traditional taco.

I just noticed whenever you cut from talking on the street vs doing the narration, it's so soothing and engaging for some reason! I think its so cool that I'll have to go back and watch the other videos again. What would be cool but also time consuming is talking to the actual owners of mom and pop shops and getting their stories. I bet they have some cool stories to tell!

One thing that i noticed that i really like about all of those stalls is that they use ACTUAL plates and bowls. No plastic or styrofoam. good and smart choice on their part. Saving money on supplies and also caring about the environment. not sure why all restaurants don't do this..it'll save them thousands of dollars in the long run.

I ordered a takeaway once when we were in Kyushu island in Japan and the bowl of ramen actually came in a proper solid bowl and after I was done with it, I had to leave it outside the front door for the delivery driver to come back to collect.

    • @kimchi8022
      @kimchi8022 5 лет назад +2

@@theapplesauc3 Paying a dish washer would still be cheaper than needing to buy plates all the time. especially if you're selling hundreds of plates a day.

It is suggested to go on a weekday so that you'll be able to go to the shops and eat the food you want without having to line up for it. 😄

Hey Paolo, I'm a big fan from China. Just to provide some context on the Chinese foods you're eating, the Spicy Oden is actually a dish called malatang (麻辣烫): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malatang , basically a spicy hotpot soup base with skewers cooking in it. The soup dumplings are 小笼包 Xiaolongbao, which is basically what they call it over there in Japan. The most famous chain that serves it is Ding Tai Fung from Taiwan. The Yaki Shoronpo is originally called 生煎包 or shengjianbao,a pan fried dumpling thing from Shanghai that has a different, thicker dough than the xiaolongbao. The famous chain to eat it there is called Xiao yang sheng jian.

Please do a video on Indian food found in Japan. As an Indian I am very eager for that.
I love your videos and the goofy 🤪 way you present it at times.😊

Thanks for the video. Me and my girlfriend are staying like 2 minutes away from Ameyokocho over the holidays and this helps give us some ideas of what we can chow down on! ^-^b
